The Silver Stallion - King of the Wild Brumbies - (aka "The Silver Brumby") (1993) Review

I read the book many years ago in 6th grade and it is still one of my all-time favorites. Unfortunately, it is out of print and very hard to find, even in Australia. This movie follows the main story line of the book, but from a more human viewpoint. It chronicles the writing of the book with scenes of the author, Elyne Mitchell, and her daughter interspersed with the scenes of the story and the horses it chronicles. I would have preferred to have more of the horse story and less of the human one (hence the 4 star rating.) If you liked "The Man from Snowy River", also based on the book by Elyne Mitchell, or just like to watch gorgeous horses running through beautiful scenery, you'll love this one.

The Winter Stallion (The Christmas Stallion): A Story of Love and Hope Review

An orphaned 16-year-old Welsh girl, Gwen (Sian MacLean) again has to deal with the loss that death brings when her grandfather passes away after being thrown in a riding accident. She's left to handle the family farm and all the horses on it until her uncle (Daniel J. Travanti) enters the picture, wanting to sell the property to a greedy land developer. One possible way to keep the farm is for Gwen to enter her beloved black stallion Mabon (named for a Pagan holiday) in the Christmas Costume Race. The climatic scene showing Gwen as an angel riding against Father Christmas and an elf, among others, is certainly one of the more unique racing scenes in the movies - think of it as the Doo-Dah Parade on horseback.

This movie rocks! It is a great movie for all horse lovers! It has 4 episodes all put together into one great movie! The first episode is about the barn fire and when Red quits because he was blamed. The second episode is about how Max and Debroh propose to each other. The third episode is about how Lisa wants to win first prize at a horse show but when she has to take a risk there will be consequences. The fourth episode is about when Lisa is still in a coma (after falling of her horse) and Max and Debroh getting married. Did Lisa come out of her coma ? Did Red go back to his job? You should see this movie to find out.
