(More customer reviews)Martial arts movies have gone through a number of recyclings, and The Kung-Fu Master and Revenge of the Kung-Fu Master are not overly unique or different than the films of previous generations, but have encapsulated and paid homage to a generation of martial arts filmmakers. The superb cast and abovepar martial arts sequences have come together in a fairly interesting and exciting tale of martial arts involving the Han Ming rebels versus the infamous Manchurian Chings. If this is your first foray into martial arts films, best to start elsewhere, if you have seen martial arts films and crave something different, then the series is well worth watching. Keep in mind, the series is based on Asian Television programming and will have the look and feel of TV, but the production value, acting, and scenes are on par with the best of Asian films. What makes the series so endearing is the overall length and character development of famous martial artists seen in past great kung-fu films such as Wing Chun, Fong Sai Yuk, Master Killer, New Legend of Shaolin, Executioners of Death, and many more films, ie Shaw Brothers. From step one you follow the amazing Donnie Yen as title character Hung Hei-Kwun (Hung Hsing Kwan) from his humble beginnings to the great destruction of Shaolin Temple, along the way you meet a cast of characters, all as interesting and talented as Donnie Yen. Considering the series is edited from an entire season into a few hours on each DVD and still manages to tell a cohesive story is truly amazing. In addition, both DVDs offer dubbed or subtitled soundtracks, I prefer sub but the dubbed version is pretty decent, and the audio commentary from both films merits a 5 star rating automatically. The foremost experts on Asian films and Donnie Yen (1st one only) give insight, humor, and history into the making of the series. This is a true must own for any martial arts film fan and the cost is the same as one mediocre Hollywood action film. Enjoy and keep watching.

(More customer reviews)i love donnie yen on iron monkey and once upon a time in china 2, so i decided to buy this movie expecting a raw good kung fu action. However, I ended having a a huge dissapointment on the film because the action are being fast forward in purpose so that it will look like they are fighting rapidly. I would have continue watching the film if the director would just left the action scene the way it was without fast forwarding it. The action lost its rawness; therefore, about 20 minutes later of the film i stop watching it. This film is about the fourth time in a row that I wasted my money with kung fu movies such as the last duel, deadful melody and the leg fighters. I need to be more cautios next time =(

(More customer reviews)This another portrayal off wong fei hung righting wrongs in his home town, and now he has a partner Beggar So(Donnie Yen) to help him.Let me just say that Donnie Yen is magnificent in this movie and all his fight scenes are great to watch.I place him up there with the magnificent four alongside Bruce Lee,Jet Li,and Jackie Chan.He's just so fast and I've never seen anyone kick as fluent and consistent as he does.The film...well, the plot is the usual Wong Fei Hung trying to rid of foreign opium traders and opium all together while a corrupt official tries to prevent that...Beggar So gets thrown in the middle and becomes an addict himself by the official, who wants to use Beggar So to kill Wong...plan fails, So gives up opium, and he join sides with wong..the movie's best fight scenes are only the ones with Donnie Yen...The actor playing Wong is kind of weak...not only that, but this movie gave a really bad portrayal of Wong...First off, Wong does't kill women regardles of whether they're bad(he killed 2)...Second, he doesn't look to kill willingly...In this movie, it seems like if someone needed to revenge his/her masters death against some official, Wong says, "No prob...Don't worry"...huh?...historically, Wong is not this kind of person...and lastly, no one ever takes Wong's fights...although i was glad Donnie came in to interfere and fight the last guy, the real Wong doesnt allow that...stick with Jet for Wong Fei Hung portrayals...nonetheless, Donnie was great as usual, but what kept this far from 5 stars were the inconsistency of Wong, some bad acting, and a lot of nonsense moments...there tend to be fights for no reason at all...also, theres a really ugly and annoying bucktooth girl plus some guy with a mohawk haircut...id suggest viewing before owning because donnie has far more better flicks than this...check out iron monkey, tiger cage I and II (awesome), Once upon a Time in China 2 along side Jet, and Wing Chun w/ michelle yeoh...Heroes is more die hard fans...thanks for reading

Kill Zone (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)Now this is how you make a crime-drama action film. The less said about this film, the better. This film is directed by Wilson Yip, and is without a doubt one of the greatest action films to come out of Hong Kong in a long, long time. My friend gave this DVD to me a few months ago, and I can't believe I waited so long to finally open up the package and watch this film. It's terrific. The other reviewers are not exagerating or over-emphasizing how great this film is. It's totally terrific! The beginning, middle and ending of the film is just great!
As for the choreographed action scenes--they are the best I have ever seen. Donnie Yen is just outstanding! The film centers around a group of cops who have attempted to put a crime boss named Po (Sammo Hung) behind bars. However, they have run out of patience and decide to frame him for a crime he didn't commit. And I can tell you, in the action scenes, Sammo can move as quickly as anyone can. Don't let his physique fool you. He's lightening quick.
When Ma (Donnie Yen) is pegged as the replacement for Detective Chan (Simon Yam) he finds that he is in a pretty tangled predicatment. With Detective Chan making up rules as he tries to nab Po, Ma finds his loyalties to Chan in question. However, he views things from a distance. He is a clean cop, and wants to catch the bad guys the right way. The fight scenes with him in this film are so realistic, they are incredible. Please viewers, do not give away this film's ending. It's incredible. I never expected the ending of this film coming. It totally floored me. Highly recommended. [Stars: 5+]
