Far away in space is Space Godzilla turning his evil eyes to Earth planning to conquer it, but his only problem is Godzilla!
So he crashes down to Earth in Round 1. And the fierce Space Godzilla is able to defeat Godzilla in Round 1. But in Round 2, well,,you'll just have to watch the movie!
Baby Godzilla is very cute in this movie, even though he looks like a big eyed cartoon character!
Godzilla's greatest challenge yet!

She (1935) Review

She (1935)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If the 1935 SHE reminds you vaguely of the 1933 KING KONG do not be too surprised: both films were produced by Meriam C. Cooper, who endowed them with similar visual styles--and who tweaked the 1887 novel by H. Rider Haggard to create a similar story line as well. Starring Broadway actress (and later two term Democratic congresswoman from California) Helen Gahagan in her only film role as The Eternal One, SHE did not, however, meet with the same financial success. It lost a tremendous amount of money for RKO, was withdrawn, and for many years was thought to be completely lost.
Although the film alters the Haggard novel in a great many ways, it retains the basic elements. Lured by a family legend, Leo Vincey (Randolph Scott) braves the frozen European north with family friend Horace Holly (Nigel Bruce, best known for his appearances in the Sherlock Holmes series) and innocent Tanya Dugmore (Helen Mack, popular 1930s ingenue.) When an avalanche exposes a cavern, the three find that the Vincey family legend is not quite so fanciful after all.
Most particularly, they find themselves at the mercy of She Who Must Be Obeyed, a woman who recalls talk of Jesus Christ in the Jerusalem market place, a woman two thousand years old who preserves her life by bathing in a radioactive flame that vents from the volcanic floor of her hidden kingdom. She (known here as Queen Hash-A-Mo-Tep) has been waiting for the reincarnation of her long-dead love, and Leo is his spitting image.
The acting styles are stiff even by 1935 standards and although Miss Gahagan is attractive in a 1930s way she lacks the stunning beauty attributed to She by the Haggard novel--but the great draw of the film was never intended to be great acting: like KING KONG, it is an action-adventure film with knockout sets (a few of them actually lifted from KING KONG), memorable special effects, and remarkable cinematographic set pieces. Even as it borrowed from earlier films such as the 1932 Boris Karloff THE MUMMY, it would also influence later films in turn; it is hard, for example, to imagine the 1937 Ronald Coleman LOST HORIZON without it, and even the look of the evil queen in Disney's 1938 SNOW WHITE is said to have been inspired by Gahagan's look and performance.
The film has been released in several editions to the home market, and fans may be tempted by less expensive editions. A word to the wise: Don't. The film shows its age and there is no significant bonus material, but the Kino Video release (be it on VHS or DVD) offers what is probably the best print short of a digital restoration. Recommended for fans of 1930s fantasy cinema.

Dinosaurs vs. Apes Review

Dinosaurs vs. Apes

I owned both of these documentaries on VHS at one time and I was happy to find them on this DVD. The transfers are straight from VHS but, thats not all that big a deal since most of the footage is from old trailers etc. There is some good rare stuff on here for vintage fans of giant monster movies and an extra documentary is included. I guess for $12.99, 4 hours of fun isn't too bad a deal. I rate this 3 1/2 stars.

The Super Inframan (1975) Review

The Super Inframan (1975)
Average Reviews:

This is one of the greatest movies ever. If anyone used to like Power Rangers when they were little, then get ready for the greatest episode ever! Hap Wong, a character actor who has been in all types of kung fu movies over the years plays the lead scientist who heads a group who look for unnatural events happening. Well one has happened, the Dragon Mom Princess with her monsters and skeleton gang have taken over the world. Just great. Danny Lee from John Woo's 'The Killer' plays a scientist who is eager to save the world. Hap Wong has a special invention which will turn him into Inframan, a super human being with great strength and special laser beams that can destroy the monsters. Danny Lee becomes Inframan and saves people from all of these evil monsters.
I was just expecting a kiddie movie but a hell of a lot of time was put into this. This movie is from 1975 but the special effects are surprisingly fun. The monster costumes are great and the lasers aren't too bad. The final battle includes some good silly fun. It doesn't try to be, but this movie is just loaded with campy fun. Watching the scientist cross the river on a boat with this green monster to go negotiate with Princess Dragon Mom had me laughing out loud for a while. Talk about memory burn, I don't think I will ever get that image out of my head. Also look out for Bruce Le who was a bad Bruce Lee clone and does some good kung fu in here. Also it seems that Danny Lee is actually the man behind the mask, it just made the movie that much better. Not great kung fu, but better than average and great for a weird movie of this kind.
The release by Image Entertainment is outstanding. They have the rights from Celestial Pictures and the movie is remastered to perfection, letterboxed and all. You will have to turn the volume way up to hear the english dub but the and mandarin track has really good sound. It also has an hour of trailers! Wandering Swordsman is on there and I have always wanted to see that. Also Deadly Breaking Sword and a ton of other Shaw relaeses are on their. They also have a ton of non shaw brothers trailers and some look very weird to say the least. One that looks very interesting is Blood Stained Tradewinds which looks to be a 1990 dark drama from Ku Lung Wuxia novel director Chor Yuen. There is also a nice photo gallery and an insert with liner notes. The interview with the director says you have to put it in your DVD rom drive. I am not good with computers. Can someone tell me how to play this?

King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) Review

King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)

Save your money, Godzilla fans. This is a mediocre DVD effort by Universal. The print is a nice copy, and it looks good. That's the only positives I'll give it. I've been spoiled by the wonderful Toho Master Collection releases by Classic Media over the last few years. Those movies include both the original Japanese version and the American theatrical release, along with some interesting still galleries, trailers, and insightful commentaries.
This DVD only includes the American version, which is hugely disappointing. Even worse, this is a no-frills DVD. No special features, no expert commentary, no nothing. The menu is "Watch Movie" "Languages" and "Scene Selections". Nothing else. I pre-ordered this one on the hopes that perhaps it was mis-labeled at Amazon. Sadly, it isn't.
I would have gladly paid a few extra dollars for a decent DVD of this film which included all the aforementioned content. Only buy this one if you really, really want a nice looking DVD copy of the American version and nothing else.

The Monster That Challenged the World/It The Terror From Beyond Space (1957) Review

The Monster That Challenged the World/It The Terror From Beyond Space (1957)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's always a pleasure when the B-movies of our childhood are released onto DVD. We don't see these little gems anymore on television (even though we have over 100 channels), mainly, I think, because they are in black and white and this is a color TV world.
But these are the films we stayed up on countless Saturday nights to see and they remain with us psychotronic fans as a most pleasant memory. This MGM Midnite Movies entry is a perfect example, as we find that we enjoy these films all over again. Now, if we can only get the kids to sit still for black and white.
The first movie "The Monster That Challenged the World" (1957)is an intelligently thought out little picture. Mysterious disappearances are occurring in the Salton Sea. Tim Holt (Remember him from "treasure of the Sierra Madre"?) and scientist Hans Conreid (Uncle Tounoose from "Make Room for Daddy") investigate and discover that an earthquake has freed prehistoric mollusks. If not stopped, they will overrun the environment. The movie moves at a brisk pace and has several good chills. Look for character actor Milton Parsons in a small role as the county archivist.
"It! The Terror from Outer Space" (1958) is a better movie than one would suspect from the title. In the year 1973 (!) a ship is sent to Mars to rescue the survivors of a previous manned excursion. Of that original crew, only Marshall Thompson is left alive. Circumstantial evidence has him pegged as the killer, but as the crew soon learns, a Martian stowaway is responsible and will kill this crew if nothing is done to stop it. Intelligently scripted by Jerome Bixby (who wrote a few "Star Trek" and "Outer Limits" episodes in the 60s), the picture always keeps us involved. The acting is also solid, with Thompson, Dabbs Greer, and Ray "Crash" Corrigan in the monster suit. It may be of some interest that the film was remade by Ridley Scott in a fashion as "Alien."
All in all, a most pleasant evening at a bargain price.

King Kong - Extended Cut (Three-Disc Deluxe Edition) (2005) Review

King Kong - Extended Cut (Three-Disc Deluxe Edition) (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The biggest problem most people had with King Kong was its length, so there's no surprise that reaction by the general public to the release of an extended edition of another 3 hour-plus Peter Jackson film was almost the equivalent of a collective groan.
The surprise is that everything added to the Extended Edition of King Kong should have never been cut. More dinosaurs and more creatures and more action on Skull Island only improves the film, and one wonders if these scenes were cut mostly for time and pacing, why wasn't a little bit of the 51 minutes of pre-Skull Island snipped or perhaps a few overly drawn scenes of Kong and Anna gazing into each other's eyes?
The more noticable scenes are that of a rampaging Ceratops and a fun scene of an underwater monster attacking Adrien Brody and Co. while they are rafting down a river. A bit more character development with some seedy behavior by Carl Denham (Jack Black) and heroic deeds by Jack Driscoll and the shipmates add a bit of flavor to the male characters literally overshadowed by Kong in the film. The spider pit sequence is also a bit lengthened with some more lines by Jack Black. Overall, a worthy 13 minutes of added material, but the film still feels too long in the last act.
The special features to this extended edition are the special features that were missing from the first release of the Kong movie, including a commentary from Peter Jackson and extensive behind the scenes features, describing the making of Kong from concept artwork to the screen a la the performance of Andy Serkis.
I enjoyed the extended cut, but I don't know that this lengthy movie is better served with added material. It's not like the LOTR films where the additions enhance your viewing and understanding of Tolkien's world. But hey, I am not going to complain about more dinosaurs and the raft sequence I was disappointed was missing from the original cut.
