VeggieTales - Heroes of the Bible - Stand Up, Stand Tall, Stand Strong Review

VeggieTales - Heroes of the Bible - Stand Up, Stand Tall, Stand Strong

My kids absolutely LOVE Veggie Tales, and this one is our favorite! I (the Mommy) adore Rack, Shack, and Benny, and didn't really know the bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego until I saw this! Big Idea has a unique talent in that the videos are full of humor that kids won't get, but adults will. Lots of times a video or movie that is supposedly "kid friendly" is full of innuendos and jokes that kids may not get but that are incredibly inappropriate. Veggie Tales are a staple in my family: I know they're quality videos with meaning and morals that even my 3 1/2 year old can grasp. Each video's bible verse is not only relevant to the cartoon, but also to every day life. It's application to my 3 year old's behavior is incredible - many times he pretends to be Larry Boy (super hero in another Veggie video) and ends up doing the right thing because he's mimicking and thinking like Larry Boy. Can you ask more from children's television? Way to go, Big Idea!!!

VeggieTales - Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More Review

VeggieTales - Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More

I chose to buy this video because I can't wait to take my girls to see the movie, "Jonah - a VeggieTales Movie," which opens in theaters on October 4th, 2002!! I wanted to catch a glimpse of what was to come, for myself, but more importantly, for my two daughters, whom I have never taken into a movie theater. (I think Disney movies are too scary and sad, but anywhooo...) I also thought it would be great to know some of the new Veggie songs *before* seeing the movie, to help my girls feel more comfortable with the newness of the whole theater experience.
As for the new songs, I have to say the ones chosen for this video are *AWESOME*! My kids crack up over the "Billy Jo McGuffrey" tune! During the song, the video footage shows some real-life kids, acting out the silly words on a school stage. It's really cute, and very funny! I have recently ordered the cd, so we can sing this in the car! The "Belly of a Whale" song is by far, my favorite, maybe because the footage is similar to a music video, in that the "real" group is seen performing, in between scenes from the movie. A re-mix of the older, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" is positively hilarious! The Veggie pirates are seen on the deck of a pirate ship, just hanging around in their rock-a-loungers. I just about choked on my diet Coke watching that for the first time...so a warning to you diet Coke drinkers! :)
The only drawback I can think of, to be fair, is that the video is too short for my liking. I WANT too much of a GOOD thing!! :) Anyway, we have watched it several times in a row, just to get our fill of the Veggies (and it never gets boring.) Overall, this video is an *AWESOME* 30 minute preview of what's to come in the "Jonah" movie! If you are a Veggie fan...you really ought to get this one!! And if you are new to the Veggies, this is a great intro to their music, which you probably should become familiar with, anyway...as the Veggies are *coming*!!! (to the big screen, that is-) :)

VeggieTales - Rack, Shack & Benny (1998) Review

VeggieTales - Rack, Shack and Benny (1998)

Fans of "Toy Story," The Bible, or fresh salads (guess that covers everybody) will enjoy VeggieTales, half-hour videos telling faithful (ungarnished?), fun Bible story adaptations starring a tomato (Bob), cucumber (Larry), carrot (Laura) and asparagas (Junior) aimed to kids'(and adults')pressures and problems.
"Rack, Shack, and Benny," (aka Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) is one of the series' best. It retells the story of the Fiery Furnace as a parable about peer pressure with catchy songs ("The Bunny Song" is a favorite despite its intentionally inappropriate message, "Dance of the Cucumber" is a hilarious "silly song" and tension breaker), cute one-liners ("What does being a junior executive mean?" "It means you have to wear a tie.") and kid-friendly suspense leading to God's climactic rescue where the three ("Now there's four, and one looks real shiny") are saved. The lesson is summed at the end with a pinch of good humor.
Kudos (Bacos?) to Phil Vischer and his merry band at Big Idea for creating a series which, like its stars, are good and good for you. It's a series to relish, and HIGHLY recommended.

VeggieTales - Are You My Neighbor? (1998) Review

VeggieTales - Are You My Neighbor (1998)

Our whole family loves this movie (3 yr. old, 17 yr. old and parents)...the songs are catchy, and the lessons are excellent. Although this is a religious based series, it is not "preachy". Larry the "cutenumber" (as my son pronounces it) and Bob the "mato" are great storytellers.

VeggieTales Classics - God Wants Me to Forgive Them? (2004) Review

VeggieTales Classics - God Wants Me to Forgive Them (2004)
Average Reviews:

I bought this video today for our 3- and 1-year old kids, who love the other "Veggie Tales" they've seen. But I also bought it for myself, thinking the "Gilligan's Island" spoof would be funny, and it truly was. Larry and Bob as "The Skipper" and his little buddy were right on target - it made me embarrased to see how much I remembered about that show! The story of Junior Asparagus getting his feelings hurt by the Grapes of Wrath initiated a discussion not only about forgiveness, but also about intentional cruelty. These tapes are wonderful for starting conversations with your children concerning morals, behavior and Bible teachings. Preschoolers just beginning to understand about making a mistake or causing pain will enjoy and benefit from this video. The music, as always, is a gas.

Can Skipper Bob and the passengers possibly forgive Larry for making such a huge blunder? While the professor discovers how many contraptions can be built out of bamboo and coconuts, the others discover the real reasons God wants us to forgive!

VeggieTales - The Toy That Saved Christmas (1996) Review

VeggieTales - The Toy That Saved Christmas (1996)

I bought this (on video) for my kids 3 years ago, and it remains a family favorite. It's a sweet story with a timely Christmas message that's not too preachy or heavy for little kids. My kids enjoy all the VeggieTales stories - the light-hearted, positive themes are great for reinforcing the values I want them to learn, and the silliness is the icing on the cake. I recommend this highly, though you may have to hide it after Christmas, or they'll watch it all year!

Appearing in his own TV commercials, unscrupulous toy maker, Wally P. Nezzer has convinced all of Dinkletown that "Christmas is when you get stuff!" With the town's children begging for more toys, it's sure to be the worst Christmas ever - until one brave little Buzz-Saw Louie doll decides to take matters into his own hands! The Toy That Saved Christmas reminds children of all ages the "Christmas isn't about getting; it's about giving." VeggieClassics contain an additional 10 minutes of bonus materials!

Veggie Tales Sing Alongs: Very Silly Songs Review

My Kids LOVE music! And since they are still a bit young to sit through a whole Veggie Tales episode (3 and 1) I thought this would be a great addition to our DVD collection. I was right! My 3yr old has quite a few songs memorized now and we'll sing them when out and about. We'll even take the DVD on the road with us to listen to the songs in the car. Or do the same in the house to dance around instead of sitting in front of the TV for the whole show. My kids jump up and start dancing as soon as they hear the theme song!
