Kipper - Let it Snow Review

Kipper - Let it Snow

Another fun packed DVD, starring Kipper, Tiger, Pig and Arnold.
Lots of snow fun, and entertaining even when it's not Christmas.
The quality of the DVD is a lot better, with a menu that allows you to play all episodes, or choose your favorite. You can also choose to skip the previews, which is a big plus for repeat viewing.
The high point is hearing Arnold "speak", when he gets his very own igloo.
We love Kipper, and will continue to recommend the series, once the DVD's continue to be such great value for the price.

Kipper - Water Play Review

Kipper - Water Play

I didn't buy this at first because I was of the impression that it was a compilation of water episodes from the other DVDs. We own most, if not all, of the other DVDs and I can't say that I've seen any of the episodes before. They may have been shown on TV, or may have been on the earlier VHS tapes, but nevertheless they were all new to me.
This one is very short at five episodes, not the length of the usual Kipper value packs, and the biggest problem is that Pig and Arnold are missing. Gotta have those pigs!
The five episodes are imaginative as usual, including a talking magic frog and an elephant, plus Kipper does a great Gene Kelly/Mary Poppins impression on an umbrella adventure.
Not the best Kipper to start with, but reasonable entertainment for seasoned veterans.

Sweet Revenge (2000) Review

Sweet Revenge (2000)
Average Reviews:

British humor is distinctly different from American humor and this film illustrates that point nicely. American humor hits you with a sledgehammer, with outrageous gags and extremely explicit content. British humor is full of innuendo, irony and subtlety. It is thoughtful wit, full of "aha!" moments. This is why Americans often refer to British humor as being dry, mostly because we don't like pondering over our comedy. We prefer a guffaw to a good snicker.
In this film, Karen (Helena Bonham Carter) and Henry (Sam Neill) meet one night on a bridge where they both went to commit suicide. Henry is interrupted from jumping by the cries of Karen who has botched her attempt. After he saves her, they commiserate and decide that getting revenge would be better than committing suicide. They make a pact where each of them agrees to even the score for the other with their respective objects of contempt.
Karen becomes a secretary to Henry's old boss (Steve Coogan) and proceeds to make his life a living hell, convincing his wife he is having an affair. Henry's target is Imogen (Kristen Scott Thomas), whom Karen hates because she stole her husband back from Karen, with whom he was having an affair. The film is replete with highbrow humor that you would only see in an English film. There is plenty of class-warfare comedy poking fun at the aristocracy.
Helena Bonham Cater is brilliantly droll as the diabolical Karen. She is deliciously evil as she cunningly plots Bruce's demise. Long known as a terrific dramatic actor, Bonham Carter shows here that she can convert that energy into an intensely offbeat and funny character with equal impact. Sam Neill is also entertaining as Henry, a bumbling victim of fate who allows himself to be swept along by circumstances. Kristin Scott Thomas does a superb job of portraying Imogen, a woman steeped in affectation and arrogance, who ultimately becomes a casualty of love.
This highly entertaining film requires a certain refined sense of humor to enjoy. I rated it an 8/10. It will lack punch for the average viewer, but for the viewer who enjoys subtlety and irony it will be amusing and enjoyable.

Screen favorites Sam Neill (BICENTENNIAL MAN, THE HORSE WHISPERER), Helena Bonham Carter (FIGHT CLUB, THE WINGS OF THE DOVE), and Kristin Scott Thomas (THE ENGLISH PATIENT, GOSFORD PARK) form a winning combination in this offbeat, uncommonly funny comedy! Quite by chance a downcast businessman Henry Bell (Neill) and quirky aristocrat Karen Knightly (Bonham Carter) save each other's life just as they were both attempting to leap from London's Tower Bridge! Then, Karen quickly invents a plot of devilish retaliation against those who drove them to the edge! She will punish the man who stole Henry's job and he will destory the life of the woman (Scott Thomas) who broke up Karen's love affair! With memorable performances from its stellar cast, this broadly entertaining comedy plays for big laughs when revenge is the name of the game!

Kipper - Kipper Helps Out Review

This is the latest Kipper DVD to be added to our collection. It only has six stories, but they're really good ones.
We didn't get the earlier VHS editions, so all the stories are new to my four year old, who thoroughly enjoys them. As a matter of fact, my two year old nephew is now a convert.
The beauty of the DVD edition is the feature which allows you to choose an episode, or play them all, or play them all continuously, the last being the favorite pick at our house.
In "The Visitor", Kipper looks after a little lost gosling. This is a good story if your kids are really messy, as Kipper is continuously cleaning up after his little charge.
"Pig's Present" tells of Pig's birthday and all the pets he receives as gifts. The part with the hamster going through Kipper's "obstacle course" is great fun.
"The Butterfly" teaches that the best things in life should be free.
"The Bleepers" will have your kids speaking strangely, and eating lollipops.
Arnold is formally introduced in "Pig's Cousin" - I had previously thought they were brothers.
"The Little Ghost" is the most entertaining story of the lot, with the most "special effects" of any Kipper episode.
If you haven't already seen the early episodes, I strongly recommend this one. If not, borrow it just for "The Little Ghost"
