Dos Peliculas Mexicanas: Lagrimas de Mi Barrio/Corona de Lagrimas Review

Dos Peliculas Mexicanas: Lagrimas de Mi Barrio/Corona de Lagrimas
Average Reviews:

I bought this DVD because of Corona de Lagrimas. I saw this movie some 10 years ago, and I really loved it! The DVD is great, the audio and visual are of a very high quality, this is not a bootleg, it's really hard to obtain these kind of films, it's considered a classic! Unfortunately, there are no subtitles (Spanish only). The story is about a Mother who faces life with her three adolescent sons. Even though it's a film of 1968, the problems exposed make this movie be up to date. I don't want to ruin it, you MUST see it. It's a film about jealousy, selfishness, parent embaressment, syndrom of superiority and much MUCH MORE! ENJOY! Thank you for bringing great films to DVD!
P.S. Lagrimas de mi Barrio is a very sad film. I really didn't buy it for it. It's not my type of film, but you might enjoy.

Fat Pizza 2-DVD Set Review

Fat Pizza 2-DVD Set
Average Reviews:

Fat Pizza is a politically incorrect absolutelly hilarous slice of modern day Australian humour. It is quite foreign to the American style but then so was Benny Hill and Monty Python in days gone by. If you can drag your prejudices past seemingly broad jokes it is full of life and joy and wit. It is destined to sink like a stone as a fish out of water - but its well worth a look if you have an open mind, a sense of curiousity, an innocent sense of humour, and a spare slice of cash.

Two old Czech guys on a road trip through Europe retrace the paths of their escape, first from the Nazis, then from the Communists. The director tags along and chronicles both their original experiences and the evolution of their present friendship. The two leads are compelling, their tales are interesting, and the pace never drags. A fine piece of work.

PUNISHMENT BATTALION 999 (Penal Battalion 999) Review

PUNISHMENT BATTALION 999 (Penal Battalion 999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
On the Eastern Front in World War 2, a German battalion fights Russian soldiers and partisans. But this is no ordinary battalion. These are soldiers being punished by the High Command for crimes like ordering retreats to save men's lives or working too hard to discover an anti-gangrene serum. These men are abused by their commanders, made to dig useless trenches under fire, and sent into a final suicidal mission. Their enemies are everywhere. This film is based on a novel by Heinz G. Konsalik and co-written by him. With unflinching realism it portrays these soldiers, their commanders, and the corruptions of the home front. Its Eastern Front setting is highly unusual for war films distributed in the US, as is its nightmarish, authentically-detailed view of war. Directed by Harald Philipp; featuring Werner Peters, George Thomas, and Sonja Ziemann.

Murph the Surf Review

Murph the Surf
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This movie was originally named "Live a Little, Steal a Lot" and is a somewhat distorted recreation of the real life break in of the Museum of Natural History in New York City by South Florida daredevils Allan Kuhn, played by Robert Conrad, and Jack Murphy. Presumably the movie was renamed Murph the Surf due to the individual notoriety of Jack Roland Murphy, who was gifted as a concert violinist, university varsity tennis player, Surfing Hall of Famer, and after a long stint in prison for a later murder in Florida, his conversion to Christianity and subsequent release from prison in the 1980's who has now become a gifted prison evangelist and leader in the Bill Glass founded "Champions for Life" international prison ministry.
Murph once admitted that the Peter Ustinov thriller "Topkapi", which came out in August of 1964 and starred Peter Ustinov in a movie about a complex jewel theft in an Istanbul museum, inspired Jack Murphy and his friends to pull a similar stunt in New York City two months later.
A good movie to see, featuring a young Robert Conrad as Allan Kuhn, who served as an advisor to the movie, with the result of making Kuhn more likeable than Murph, this movie might appeal to fans of actor Robert Conrad, but also to fans of Jack Murphy's present evangelistic ministry.
And believe me, when Murph the Surf comes to town to preach, a LOT of people have heard of him for his prior exploits.

Driver 23 & Atlas Moth (2002) Review

Driver 23 and Atlas Moth (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this based on the good reviews posted here, and I can say that I wasn't disappointed. In Driver 23/Atlas Moth, a window is provided into the world of Dan Cleveland, and what a strange world it is...one filled with delusions of grandeur and unfulfilled dreams. I knew a guy exactly like Dan, someone who was involved in so many projects, who had big dreams, but was never quite able to grab that brass ring. What's so endearing about Dan is his eternally optimistic outlook, the 'never say die' attitude. No matter what roadblocks are placed before him, he tries to go over them, around them, or even under them and continue to plod along. While endearing, this attitude can be harmful. Most people know when to quit, change gears, and focus their energies towards more fruitful ventures, but Dan seems determined to ride it out, regardless of the consequences, even if it means losing everything. Sorry to say my friend passed away sometime ago, but I feel like I got to spend a little more time with him in watching Dan and his travails.
Driver 23 is a movie about Dan, a delivery driver by day, and the lead singer of a Minneapolis-based rock band called Dark Horse. Dan suffers from a myriad of problems that he takes medication for, but none of that seems to slow him down. Half of his band quits, and he keeps going....his wife moves across the country to take a job, and he keeps going. A man truly determined to fly into the face of logic regardless. And I swear, that guy must always have a roll of duct tape with him, and he's quite liberal with its uses. Oh yeah, I also loved when Dan built his own recording studio in his basement. It looked so creepy and funky as he used whatever materials he had handy, cinder blocks, pieces of wood, etc.
In Atlas Moth, we get to see a continuance to where Driver 23 left off. Dan, now that his wife has left for good, lives a somewhat squalid apartment, but is still pressing on, despite his faculties sometimes being hamstringed by various medications (seems like he is taking more than before). After seven long years, we find that the Dark Horse CD is nearing completion. Being the perfectionist he is, Dan is taking an extra long time in postproduction, and his fellow band members are getting a little antsy. No real conclusions here, but another very intimate, uncensored glimpse into one man's life, duct taped slippers and all. At the very least, no one can say he did try to follow his dreams. Can we say the same about ourselves?

As an antidote for the bloated, manufactured rock stars of the MTVgeneration, these films are packed with stranger-than-fiction human comedy and down toearth realism. Driver 23 and The Atlas Moth document seven years in the life of DanCleveland, a Minneapolis-based rock guitarist/deliveryman and his band, Dark Horse. Inspite of (or because of) a complex obsessive compulsive disorder, Dan is driven by anexistential need to simply accomplish. An intense optimist, he meets all obstacles to hismusical ambitions with uncanny determination, amazing perseverance, and strange"inventions" which visualize frustrations and make tangible the workings of his mind.Winner of 9 National/International Film Awards.

Fema City Review

Fema City
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jamin Griffiths' insightful and personal exploration of the aftermath of 2004's devastating (and now virtually overlooked) Hurricane Charley is a tragic tale of real life woe - and a must-see. Clearly a caring director, Griffiths has masterfully gained the confidence of a group of people dealt a horrific blow - and who are now caught in a vicious cycle from which it seems nearly impossible to escape. If even a fraction of young director Griffiths' compassion were matched by equal parts common sense on the government's part, the subjects of his documentary might be in a very different place. This is a cautionary tale of how half-measures and half-hearted assistance can result in half-baked solutions - and broken lives.

Journey Home: The Animals of Farthing Wood (1998) Review

Journey Home: The Animals of Farthing Wood (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first saw that this movie was on video I thought, "Cool!" because I had been a fan of the books for a long time. This was made in Britian as a popular t.v series that was very closely based on the books. When I began watching it, there seemed to be scenes cut out, some goofy songs were in there, it didn't follow the books at all, and most of the animals didn't even have British accents! After talking to a U. K. friend of mine, I discovered that this version sold in America is NOT the true British version. Not only did the American merchandisers add several goofy songs and change the voices, but they cut about 50% of the movie out. All of this ruined the whole thing! British animals with American accents, several songs when only ONE is supposed to be there, and all the cuts that were done make many of the scenes not make any sense. What doesn't make any sense, is why American merchandisers would do this. The Animals of Farthing Wood is very popular in Britian, so why American merchandisers would do this to something so popular is beyond me.

Vanished in the Twinkling of an Eye Review

Vanished in the Twinkling of an Eye

This is an extremely thought-provoking video. I really found myself forgetting that I was only watching a video and not something that was really happening. Pastor Hagee's commentary and explinations are easy to understand regardless of your understanding of Biblical prophecy. This video will send you running to your Bible to study these prophecies on your own.

Last Exit to Earth (1997) Review

Last Exit to Earth (1997)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the year 2500, men have become sterile, women rule the world, and the human race is headed for extinction. Several female scientists devise a way to go back in time to a 21st-century spaceship which is crewed by half-a-dozen or so fertile men. They hope to extract from these men enough ...
Do you really want to hear more? The movie resulting from this bizarre plot was probably meant to be satiric and campy but it comes across as simply dull and dopey and its obviously scant budget doesn't allow for anything interesting in the way of sets or special effects.
The "star" of the proceedings is Costas Mandylor who admittedly looks "fertile" but who isn't likely to linger over this dud in his biography.
