(More customer reviews)Film Trailers. Some of us loathe them. In fact, we try to go to the movies late just to avoid them. Others, such as myself, are fascinated by their history. Film Trailers can also be considered an art as well. The challenge is to try to get the audience interested in seeing the movie while not exposing the entire film plot.
The program begins with 1927's "The Jazz Singer", which seems boring and slow by today's standards but was interesting to audience back then because sound was new. The program than continues on, exploring the 1930's, 1940's and into the 1950's. Classics such as "Modern Times", "The Grapes of Wrath", "Citizen Kane" and "Notorious" are among the trailers seen. Humphrey Bogart, however, dominates the program with six trailers, including "The Maltese Falcon", "Casablanca", "The Big Sleep" and "The African Queen". There are other things besides trailers shown, however. Intermissions, for example, are presented, as are advertisements for the National War Fund and "Lets go to the Lobby" ads.
The only complaints with this tape (Hence my four star rating) is that the picture and sound quality is sometimes poor. Some work could have been done to bring the trailers back to life. Also, this is Volume One in the series, yet I know of no other volumes. Hopefully others are coming out soon, especially since these and other classic trailers are too often ignored.
