Billy Graham Presents - Road to Redemption Review

(More customer reviews)It's always a risk to buy a DVD sight unseen, but I bought this gem based on some reviews I've read and the fact that it's made by Worldwide Pictures who have produced some great movies (Vow to Cherish, Something to sing about).
Road to Redemption tells of a young couple Amanda Tucker (the lovely Julie Condra) and Alan Fischer (Jay Underwood) who are sick of struggling along financially so "borrow" some money from Amanda's boss who also happens to be a Mob boss, along with the money comes racing tips for some fixed races so off they go to the racing track. All does not go to plan and Amanda finds herself having to leave town to track down her Grandfather Nathan (Pat Hingle) in order to hit him up for some cash so she can pay back her boss.
There are some excellent performances put in by the lead actors as well as the supporting mobsters Tony Longo as Vincent the enforcer is very amusing as it Wes Studi as Frank Lightfoot. There are some real funny set pieces in this film and some of it reminded me of the also excellent Dumb and Dumber (minus the crudeness).
Road to Redemption is a family friendly comedy with real heart. It's extremely amusing and a joy to watch. It also very moving and touching as well as Amanda gets to know her Grandfather and learns about what is most important in life. I recommend it whole-heartily for anyone needing a good laugh and it's refreshingly free from smut, foul language and jokes made in bad taste.

A young couple struggling with their finances is looking for a way to make quick money. Amanda's boss is involved in the mob, and she finds a stash of money and a list of rigged winners for an upcoming horse race. She and her boyfriend Alan decide to take a chance and "borrow" the money, bet on a winning horse, and get out of debt. Her plan goes awry and the mob goes after them. She has no choice but to ask her estranged, wealthy grandfather for help. She embarks on a cross country trip to visit her grandfather, and unsuspectingly, finds herself on a spiritual journey as well.

The Staircase (1998) Review

(More customer reviews)Based on a true story, THE STAIRCASE is one of those uplifting Christian movies heavy on morals and faith, and thanks to an intelligent script and very good performances, it works.
Barbara Hershey gives a smooth and touching performance as Mother Madeleine, a dying nun who wants to see the completion of a chapel in the Santa Fe territory before she dies. This seems impossible when the architect "forgets" to put in a staircase to the choir loft. Without the funds necessary to complete the staircase, that dream seems unlikely...until a mysterious stranger named Mr. Joad shows up out of nowhere and offers to build a spiral staircase with no charge. CSI's William Petersen gives a strong understated performance as Joad, whose mission becomes both a blessing and a curse as the original contractors (David Clennon and Justin Louis) don't want Joad to do the staircase. It may all play out with predictable results but it's sincerity is so genuine, it's a fine little film.

(More customer reviews)Christy: A Change of Seasons is just a wonderful movie for both children and parents. I just love the whole Christy series, movie and mini-series. The story was aired on PAX tv in a two part series starring Lauren Lee Smith as Christy Huddleston. The story starts out on a wonderful night in Cutter Gap. All the residents in Cutter Gap gather to the Mission House to watch a movie which Christy (Smith) borrowed for Miss Alice Henderson's birthday. But as the story moves on not everything is so peaceful and happy. A few days later, after Doctor Neil MacNeill (played by Stewart Finley McLannen from the orginal series) exames some residents, he discovers that typhoid has come to the good people of Cutter Gap. Almost everyone becomes ill, encluding David Grantland, (played by James Waterston, son of actor Sam Waterston)the young mission preacher. Christy is devistated by the death of her dear friend Fairlight Spencer (played by Ingrid Torrance) and begins to question her belief in God. Christy throws herself into help Dr. MacNeill care for the ill and tries not to think about her loss. But David offers her hope and his heart to her. So she accepts his proposal. Miss Alice also tries to help Christy through her troubles, but she is also battling problems of her own. Dr. MacNeill soon finds out about Christy's choice to marry David and decides to leave the Cove, rather then see the woman he loves marry another. The Perfect Stranger (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)The plot is simple. A lawyer named Nikki played by Pamela Brumley gets a dinner invitation on the night her husband is going to a ball game with his friends. She believes that the invitation is really from her husband who feels bad about leaving her alone on a Friday night, so she accepts. When she arrives at the resteraunt she finds instead someone she has never seen before, a man, well dressed, who claims to be Jesus Christ. At first she thinks it's a joke and wants to leave, but hey, why give up a free meal? She goes along with his story that he is Jesus Christ and proceeds to ask him questions about everything she can think of from various religions to the creation of the universe. What follows is one of the most interesting conversations put on film.
Let me state that I am not a born again Christian, but when I first saw this film I was glued to the TV, it is a film that makes you think. It is a film that is entertaining, it is a film that is as interesting to those of you who are not religious as to those of you who are.
I dispute the running time of the movie as listed here. The film times in at about 1 hour and 8 minutes in length. The closing credits include interviews with the stars of the film and the director and clock in at about 17 minutes. For a film that is a little over an hour the price is not bad. There are extra's on the DVD, behind the scenes ect.
If you are still not sure if you should see this keep in mind that it is a little over an hour long. Chances are you've wasted your time being dissapointed with films clocking in at over 2 hours before. The choice is always yours, if you don't like it- return it. Or better yet, because of the price, give it to a friend. I'm sure you know someone out there who would want to see this.
