As a producer on this film, I have a unique perspective. I knew the script, I saw the film being shot, and I watched pieces of the editing process. However, it wasn't until we screened the film for an audience that I really got a feeling for the film. The script read like a murder mystery, but as the film played out on screen - there were a number of scenes where the audience ended up laughing. That's when I realized that although meant to be a murder/mystery type of film, it comes across more like a black comedy.
There are some great one liners in the film. 1) Where were you yesterday morning? Wait a minute, it's coming back to me now....I was in bed....with your mother. 2) I've been doing this long enough, that I can smell a murderer, and Mr....You Stink! 3) Sorry? I think we're a little late for sorry! - look at her, she's dead!
When I watch the film in it's entirety, I'm reminded of other black comedy films, such as "The Ice Harvest" with John Cusack and "Fargo".
Give it a try, and all of us at Winter Morning Pictures hope that you enjoy it!

Trapped is the story of a high-stakes business swindle that involves financial deviousness, emotional blackmail, sexual deception, psychological coercion, fraud, forgery, extortion, intimidation, and ultimately murder. As friends and family celebrate the successful career of Edward Roth Hutton (Corbin Bernsen), and the closing of a very important business contract for Hutton Industries, we learn that far from being his loyal senior partner, Tighe `Ty` MacArthur (Tony Bingham) is not only sleeping with Hutton's wife, Margot Schugart Hutton (Dana Hardy), but is also conspiring with Margot and a shadowy compatriot, Liam (Jeff Carpenter), to murder his boss and mentor, Hutton.

Perhaps I'm a little biased because I absolutely LOVE Wood Harris but this was the first film I ever saw him in and I loved his performance in this movie. Not only was he SEXY as ever, but he was also sensitive, which is a side that is not often revealed by so-called rap artists (his role in the movie). Although I don't really like Gina Rivera (based on her role in Soul Food-the movie), I did like her performance in this movie and thought that the lead characters worked well together. This movie was intriguing, it kept me interested from start to finish and it's one of those movies that, while not Grammy award-winning, is a nice reprieve from the real world...especially the drama! This is one of my favorite all-time BET movies (this and Masquerade) and although so many people (surprisingly) gave it a bad review, I enjoyed watching it and will add it to my collection so that I can watch it anytime I want!

This movie details the gang rape of a young mentally retarded girl, and the trial of her rapists that follows. Sexual assault/abuse of the physically and/or mentally disabled is a crime that goes largely unreported and/or unprosecuted for a number of reasons. Lifetime did a wonderful job with this delicate subject matter, and I recommend it to anyone who cares about violence prevention.

Broken English (1997) Review

Broken English (1997)

I saw this $2 million film at the Edmonton film festival in 1997. From the first scene I knew I was seeing a film that was very well thought out - the windshield wipers of a bus traveling through a destroyed Sarajevo are synched to the sound track's beat. The characters were obviously well researched and it is also obvious that the director spent a great deal of time with his cast of unknown actors - there is a startling sex scene that no inexperienced actor could pull off without a great deal of coaching - a scene that caused the film to be rejected by North American distributors and is the reason the film is largely unknown there.
This film was Rade Serbedzija big break. The director, Gregor Nicholas told me after the film that Serbedzija called him one night drunk from London thanking him for making him into a bad guy. Serbedzija was thanking him because he got the roll of the bad guy in The Saint opposite Val Kilmer because of his role in Broken English. He also told me that they had to modify the bus in the first scene so that the wipers would synch with the music.
Finally, the true issue of this film - incest - is so subtle that most people don't even notice it at all.

Dr. Lamb (1992) Review

Dr. Lamb (1992)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The next year after Dr. Lamb Danny Lee as a director shot The Untold Story which came out to be a bit better than Dr. Lamb and became somewhat classic in the circles of gorehounds and category III movie lovers. But in Dr. Lamb some elements can be found that later made The Untold Story so popular.
In the beginning of Dr. Lamb police arrest a taxi driver accusing him in a number of girl murders throughout Hong Kong. Young man doesn't want to confess at first, but finally starts telling his story, and we see the rest of the film as a flashback. Dr. Lamb is pretty gory, with notorious episodes for example of woman's breast being cut off or chunks of human meat floating in a fish tank, although with nothing overly-disturbing which can shock those who's seen plenty of such movies. And altogether Dr. Lamb could become totally senseless and stupid exploitation schlock like, say Ebola Syndrome, but it didn't.
Danny Lee turned this gorefest into a pretty serious film. I wouldn't call it a drama, but it definately is much more than your ordinary splatter movie. As The Untold Story makes a sudden turn after the cannibal is seized, Dr. Lamb keeps it realistic from the very beginning. We see the taxi driver's family which doesn't want to believe that their relative is guilty, but as soon as he confesses they all turn their backs on him. We see this guy being interrogated in a police precinct and how cops - calling a spade a spade - torture him to get a confession. At this moment you don't even know whom to feel for - cops or a murderer. Dr. Lamb at many points turns out to be pretty ambiguous and thoughtful albeit it doesn't necessarily have to. It strongly reminded me of William Lustig's Maniac. This is the case when an exploitation film happens to be something more, and that's always a nice surprise for a viewer.

In the Heat of Passion 2 (1994) Review

In the Heat of Passion 2 (1994)

Lesley-Anne Down (North and South) was my reason for watching this movie. I had hoped she would be slinky and sexy in this, but all that stuff was left to the younger Teresa Hill. I'm not complaining about Teresa's assets, it's just that the mature Ms. Down could have sent the temperature soaring if she'd been more willing.
This is a movie you feel you've seen before, because the plot is the re-hashed formula of so many B-movie erotic thrillers. One that comes to mind is Inner Sanctum, starring Tanya Roberts. It's almost a carbon copy of that movie. Nonetheless, it delivers the goods you expect from a B-movie: wooden acting, an attempt to be noir with twist upon twist, and a splash of sex and nudity.
Ms. Down is the disabled wife of the forgettable male lead, and he and his nubile young mistress (Teresa Hill) scheme to get rid of her for the insurance. But not all goes according to plan...

Baby Monitor: Sound of Fear (1998) Review

Baby Monitor: Sound of Fear (1998)
Average Reviews:

In this nice little thriller, the rich wife of a cheating husband hires a thug duo to kill the babysitter, who is pregnant with the hubby's child. The thugs decide to hold their 5 year old boy for ransom too and collect diamonds along with their hit money. Problem is, they've gone to the wrong condo, killed the wrong woman, and now have to deal with the real babysitter out to protect both boys. Suspenseful and not cheesy like some 'babysitter' killer movies, this one portrays the pretty blonde babysitter (played by cute Josie Bissett) as a likeable medical student with a lot of common sense and guts!!! The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that by the end, I was ready to kill the annoying 5 year old boy myself!!! Rated R for some violence, this must have been a made-for-cable movie, and should've been rated PG-13.

I just purchased this DVD being a fan of Richard Dreyfuss and was excited about seeing this movie because I have heard good things about it. I had to first purchase a Region Free DVD player though because it is not released in Region 1 which is crazy! I know all the hang ups about its release in the US and all but come on!!!!
Anyway, this movie is fantastic and Richard Dreyfuss is amazing in it. I won't go through what it is all about because it is reviewed above. It is a bit of a slow mover but in the end you really get that good feeling from it. This is a different pace for Richard Dreyfuss but he can adapt to every character with ease it seems and does a fine job. I definitely would recommend this film to anyone that can get their hands on it. Right now being that it is not availible in Region 1 it feels special to be able to view this movie and have it in my collection. For any Richard Dreyfuss fans, don't pass up this movie!

Don Juan (Or If Don Juan Were a Woman) (1976) Review

Don Juan (Or If Don Juan Were a Woman) (1976)
Average Reviews:

Brigitte Bardot stars here in her last film along with Jane Birkin, the other singer who recorded the Serge Gainesbourg hit, "Je t'aime". This film is worth seeing, as we see BB's and Vadim's evolution from "And God Created Woman" to this post-sixties over-the-top comedy-drama.
We get some great nude scenes with Brigitte and Jane, and BB's character Jeanne is someone fed up with men, so she resorts to seduce and destroy tactics. As in "And God Created Woman" she's pretty much playing herself, but with an exaggerated storyline of driving men to ruin, murder, and suicide. The campy ironic humor is there in such scenarios as seducing a priest as well as setting up a fake menage-a-trois to madden a bete homme. Also a scene with Robert Walker Jr. (Charlie X in Star Trek TOS) where the price she asks for making love is no less than his life, which he takes seriously. The ending is a multiple meaning one as BB saves a man who makes her "pay for her sins" (though he's unappreciative). I think the end hits home for Brigitte in real life saying in effect, "look you male-dominated world, you've made my life hell". And it's the last scene she ever did on film. Worth seeing for it's erotic quality (but what BB film isn't), the submarine home, the early '70s fashions, and the camp.

Mi vida loca (1994) Review

Mi vida loca (1994)

"Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)" is an HBO movie about Hispanic girls growing up in Echo Park. Each main character was allowed to tell his or her story and the director effectively blended these lives into a tale about real people facing death on the streets. It shows what it means to belong to a neighborhood, how the neighborhood gangs provide support, and how people, especially women, cope with the deaths around them. There were no "bad" people here, just nice kids who accept murder as an effective way to solve problems in a dangerous environment. I highly recommend the film to anyone who has seen "Kids" for a more mundane but believable take on poor urban teens.

I'll Take Manhattan Review

Great drama of a wealthy family torn between greed, love and running an empire. Starring great actors like Barry Boswick and Jack Scialia and of course Perry King.....what more can you ask for?
An excellent plot that keeps you glued to the screen to see what will happen next. This is a mini series made in the tradition when filmmakers actually knew how to make great mini series and compromised on nothing.
I saw this series on TV in the late 70's and when I saw that it was recently released in DVD I grabbed it. It was so well made that I'll Take Manhattan (the catchy title) just remained a pleasant memory.
Make this great stylish production a part of your memory too and buy a copy. You will not be disappointed and you will be spending some long hours on real quality viewing. It's a PROMISE!!!

Mesmerized (1984) Review

Mesmerized (1984)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The premise for the film is intriguing. It is based upon the Victoria Thompson murder trial that took place in New Zealand during the late nineteenth century. Victoria is raised is some sort of orphanage from birth. At the age of seventeen, it is arranged for her to marry Mr. Thompson, a weird, older man whom she has never before met. She dutifully marries him, and when she comes of age goes to live with him in his home, which is run by his two creepy servants. Victoria soon discovers just how weird her husband really is. She ultimately takes the bull by the horns and finds herself standing trial for his murder by the time she is nineteen years old.
Jodie Foster places the role of Victoria Thompson, as if she were doing so under duress. She takes a character that is potentially sympathetic and makes her merely pathetic, leaving the viewer cold. John Lithgow fares somewhat better, as he does a credible job playing the weird Mr. Thompson, doing the best he can with the material with which he has to work. The film, unfortunately, is choppy and poorly edited, the story so muddled as to be nearly incomprehensible. The direction seems to be almost nonexistant, as it looks like it is every man for himself.
This film was originally released under the title, "Mesmerized". Word about the film must have traveled fast, as bad news so often does. When the DVD was released, it was retitled as "Shocked". The only thing shocking about this film is that it was ever released in the first place. It is a complete travesty.
The DVD itself has no meaningful special features of which to speak. The quality of the film is very poor, grainy and fuzzy. Even the cover art of the DVD has nothing to do with the film. It is simply a photograph of a contemporary Jodie Foster. All in all, this DVD is not worth buying. The only reason this film was not rated one star was due to John Lithgow's performance. If you are not a John Lithgow fan, deduct one star.

Fallen Angel (1981) Review

I first saw this movie when it first came out in the early 80's at age 11 or 12 years old. I am now 29 years old and had began a internet search for this movie. I collect movies and am now focusing on some of the more favorable movies of my childhood to add to my collection. Without a doubt Fallin Angel was at the very top of the list. The movie was absolutely wonderful! Obviously to rank among my favorite movies a good 19 years later! This movie is one that many can relate to their own childhoods as far as problems and unhappiness goes. THis is the incredible story of one girl...and her life within a messed up home and childhood who got the attention she needed and desperately wanted at home from a softball coach. A coach that fed her need for attention and self confidence and led her directly into child pornography! ANY adult, mother, father, or child this age should definitely see this movie! As old as it is....it is still a very good story of the dangers that young girls face in the real world. Please get this movie! You will enjoy it and please let your young daughters see it to let her be aware of the dangers out there! Through this search I found that the star of this movie is now dead. Dana Hill...how sad. She had such a great future ahead of her and was so wonderful! Dana Hill will be greatly missed!

Too bad I have to give this movie 1 star. It's not even worth this one. It's unbelievable that trash like this is burned on a DVD. If you have the intention buying it, think about it twice. A very thin story, if I may call this a story at all, is built around some "erotic"( ridiculous) scenes, which made me use the fast forward button most of the time. Believe me, this is a waste of money.

The Girl Next Door (1999) Review

The Girl Next Door (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This movie is predictable right from the start and really stupid in places. The plot is simple enough, middle aged man with pregnant wife becomes infatuated with neighbors' 18 year old daughter. The man has a very brief affair with the girl after which she turns up dead and the man is now a prime suspect. What is stupid about the whole mess is the fact that nobody seems to be suspicious of the girl's boyfriend, someone who had been stalking her before the affair, everyone is more suspicious about the girl's new mysterious lover. To make the entire mess even more unbelievable, the girl took a video of the single night of passion that she had with her neighbour and he now has to get his hands on it.
The movie is also listed as an "Erotic Thriller". Well, there is very little erotic about the movie at all, in fact there are only two semi-sexy scenes in the movie. The first features the girl taking a skinny dip in the pool and the second is the girl and man having sex for the first and only time. Both times the scene is shot in darkness and you cannot see anything worthwhile to suggest any real nudity or eroticism.
The DVD is also very bare bones. There is very little extra on it. My advice, avoid this movie at all cost and instead consider one (or all) of the Poison Ivy movies.
