I've gotten the other Sing Along Videos in Spanish and this is by far the best one. It is simply awesome! Weather you get it for youngsters that are learning Spanish as a second language or those that already master Spanish...it is simply the best.
ADVISORY NOTE: IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN UNDER 3 OR 4 BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A PIRATE SONG WITH THE VIDEO THAT MAY BE A BIT SCARY TO SOME CHILDREN.
BE AWARE AND PREVIEW WITHOUT THEM IF POSSIBLE. MY SON WHEN HE WAS 2 WAS VERY SCARED WHEN HE WATCHED THAT PARTICULAR SONG VIDEO BUT NOW
THAT HE IS 3-1/2 HE LOVES THE ENTIRE VIDEO. MY FIRST-BORN SON NEVER HAD A PROBLEM AT ANY AGE AND NEITHER DID MY DAUGHTER. EVERY CHILD
IS DIFFERENT! ENJOY!!! LAUGH AND SING AND DANCE WITH YOUR CHILDREN; THEY WILL REMEMBER FOR A LIFETIME!!!

Mesmerized (1984) Review

Mesmerized (1984)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The premise for the film is intriguing. It is based upon the Victoria Thompson murder trial that took place in New Zealand during the late nineteenth century. Victoria is raised is some sort of orphanage from birth. At the age of seventeen, it is arranged for her to marry Mr. Thompson, a weird, older man whom she has never before met. She dutifully marries him, and when she comes of age goes to live with him in his home, which is run by his two creepy servants. Victoria soon discovers just how weird her husband really is. She ultimately takes the bull by the horns and finds herself standing trial for his murder by the time she is nineteen years old.
Jodie Foster places the role of Victoria Thompson, as if she were doing so under duress. She takes a character that is potentially sympathetic and makes her merely pathetic, leaving the viewer cold. John Lithgow fares somewhat better, as he does a credible job playing the weird Mr. Thompson, doing the best he can with the material with which he has to work. The film, unfortunately, is choppy and poorly edited, the story so muddled as to be nearly incomprehensible. The direction seems to be almost nonexistant, as it looks like it is every man for himself.
This film was originally released under the title, "Mesmerized". Word about the film must have traveled fast, as bad news so often does. When the DVD was released, it was retitled as "Shocked". The only thing shocking about this film is that it was ever released in the first place. It is a complete travesty.
The DVD itself has no meaningful special features of which to speak. The quality of the film is very poor, grainy and fuzzy. Even the cover art of the DVD has nothing to do with the film. It is simply a photograph of a contemporary Jodie Foster. All in all, this DVD is not worth buying. The only reason this film was not rated one star was due to John Lithgow's performance. If you are not a John Lithgow fan, deduct one star.

The Wonderful World of Disney - Run, Appaloosa, Run; The 101 Problems of Hercules Review

The Wonderful World of Disney - Run, Appaloosa, Run; The 101 Problems of Hercules
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This video has 2 separate adventure episodes from "The Wonderful World of Disney" television show that played on Sunday nights from 1953 to 1983. These are two of my favorite episodes, both are very thrilling adventure tales. The first is "Run, Appaloosa, Run", originally aired on the TV show in 1967 (season 14, episode 7) after serving as a theatrical featurette in July 29, 1966 along with the Main Feature at the time, "Lt Robin Crusoe". First release to video was in 1986. It's a story of Mary Blackfeather, a Native American girl of the Nez Pierce tribe who trains horses and performs as a trick rider. The Nez Perce are known for developing the spotted horses. Mary adopts a motherless colt that is rescued from a mountain lion by the family's herd dog "Silver", raises her and names her "Holy Smoke". Mary is eventually separated from her horse when she is forced to sell it at an auction to help her tribe raise money as horse sales are the basis of the tribe's economy in the film. The horse passes from one unworthy owner to another before he and Mary are reunited. They find each other again at a rodeo, and then land up joining in the historic annual "Suicide Relay Race", at Hells Mountain during the Omak Stampede. This is known as the roughest horse race in North America, dreamed up originally by the Nez Perce, consisting of a two horse per team relay of very rough terrain including jumping and swimming elements. Worse yet there are no rules and riders try to knock other riders off their horse. The herd dog "Silver" is amazing, and performs very well. This film is unique because it also features the famous rodeo clown Wilbur Plaugher playing himself, and many Native American actors. The movie was credited by Time Magazine at the time for a surge in popularity for Appaloosa horses. The Official Disney Encyclopedia Disney A to Z, on page 478 incorrectly lists the colt as "Sky Dancer", and in all fairness it is rare to see mistakes in that book.
The terrific cowboy singing and narration is by Rex Allen, and the title song he performs, "Ballad of Appaloosa" is written by Bobby Wayne. Fun and exciting adventure film for the whole family. Filmed in Technicolor and directed by Larry Lansburgh, who also wrote the original story, photographed and produced the film. Lansburgh had a long career of making Disney animal featurettes from the 1940's. Later he wrote and produced, a terrific theatrical feature film for Disney, "the Littlest Outlaw".
This next episode on this VHS is really a good one, first aired in October 10, 1966 and twice more in the next 10 years. Based on a true story, "101 Problems of Hercules" is about a sheepherder in the 1880's named Buckeye Jones (Harold Reynolds) in the old western frontier days. Buckeye and his 3 faithful dogs take great care of their herd, despite the fact that the dogs are an unusual mix of herding breeds. The dogs are Lady (a Collie), Boomer (English Sheepdog), & Hercules the lead dog (Hungarian Kuvasz). Buckeye is put out of action by some Indians, and the dogs attempt to get the sheep home without him through rain storms, duststorms, wolves and other predators, and thieves that are after the flock. Real exciting story and amazing what the dogs can do. I recommend this tape.

Noah (1998) Review

Noah (1998)
Average Reviews:

Disney and Tony Danza - a combination that guarantees entertainment! Norman Waters, the widower with three sons and a not-so-honest construction worker, receives the test of his life when God sends a messenger to him. The messenger must convince Norman to build an arc, as he will be sending the disasterous flood in the near future. Norman responds like anyone probably would in the similar situation, but when he accepts his fate, his sanity begins to be questioned by those around him. Eventually, a local pet shop owner helps him supply the animals for the arc, even sacrificing her entire savings and business for the project.... all while the two fall in love. This project tests his relationship with his sons, with their various feelings about their dad's activities. In addition, the community, friends, and business associates add to the complications of Norman's fate. Norman cannot help to make some permanent changes in his beliefs and future actions, but you'll be surprised at the results. This is an excellent movie, that does stress the fact that sometimes things may not quite make sense to others - but we all have to do, what we have to do. There are many more levels to this movie that I can describe here in such a short review... so I highly recommend you watch this movie to obtain the full impact of it. Enjoy!

Harriet the Spy (1996) Review

Harriet the Spy (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Harriet M. Welsch (Michelle Trachtenberg) is an 11-year-old-spy who dreams of being a writer. She explains her obsession with writing by saying: "I want to remember everything, I want to know everything."
In her PRIVATE notebook, she writes down her secret thoughts. Sometimes her comments are all too honest and not that nice. Harriet doesn't yet understand the power of words, but soon she learns, when all her friends become her worst enemies.
Rosie O'Donnell plays the perfect nanny. Her advice to Harriet is that while she might want to know everything, it won't do her a bit of good unless she uses her knowledge to put beauty into the world.
Harriet goes through a great learning experience where she finally realizes she should participate more in life and learns to let go of her writing obsession in order to embrace life. After all, true friends are what makes life wonderful and worth living.
This is a funky, modern story that teaches a wonderful lesson. It is about learning to forgive and being vulnerable enough to be able to say you are sorry.
A great lesson for all ages!

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999) Review

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While my kids may be a bit young for this video, the oldest (just under 3) appreciates the sing-along far better than she tolerates the Winnie the Pooh cartoons; for some reason she can't make it through a half-hour of the show while she can manage this video. She is especially drawn to the Scrapbook song, which is current Disney channel "filler" between "Bear" and the other shows. Several of the songs are also recognizable from the Tigger movie, which she liked. In all, I think this video is a good way to introduce younger children to Pooh and his friends without losing too much interest. it also makes for interesting times when she expects her parents to read the lyrics to her off the screen; that is probably the real treat here is to hear an adult actually try to keep pace with the show.

Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001) Review

Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Jett Jackson The Movie" is like a cross between "The Parent Trap" and "Pleasantville". Filmed near the end of the Disney Channel series "The Famous Jett Jackson", it expands the series premise to a new feature length movie (this is all new stuff-not a group of old episodes edited together). As in the series, Lee Thompson Young plays the title character-a high school student who is also the star of a futuristic television series where he plays a teen action hero named Silverstone. At the beginning of the movie he is struggling with whether to renew his contract with the show, which is seriously cramping his school and social life. Meanwhile on the show his Silverstone character is unhappy working at Mission Omega Matrix.
One day on the set a malfunctioning prop transports him to a parallel world where he is actually the action hero he is playing. The accident causes him to switch places with his on- screen character, who is transported to Jett's world of family, school, and television. The remainder of the movie concerns the process of Jett and Silverstone figuring out what has happened to them and the challenges of taking over each other's lives. Both the series and the movie have excellent casts with Michael Ironside as the television villain Kragg, Lindy Booth as Silverstone's partner Hawk, Ryan Sommers Baum as Jett's friend J.B., and Kerry Duff (no relation to Hillary) as his love interest.
This is an entertaining film, especially for those who enjoy the series. It has the good production elements of more expensive Disney features including a lot of close-ups of the cast and some nice morphing effects. The series itself was a cheaper production, it relied mostly on wide shots and had minimal effects.
The film's limited popularity is probably because it is a bit too serious; they could have had a lot more fun with the premise. Young is not very good at expressing wide-eyed wonder at what is happening to either of his characters, he just looks stunned most of the time.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

Winnie the Pooh - Sing a Song With Pooh Bear (1998) Review

Winnie the Pooh - Sing a Song With Pooh Bear (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Sing a Song With Pooh Bear and Piglet Too" is a wonderful DVD featuring Pooh songs from all the back towards the beginning up to the still somewhat recent "Piglet's Big Movie." You get classic songs such as "Harvest What You Grow" and "Heffalumps and Woozles" as well as newer songs like "Sing Ho For the Life of A Bear (Expotition March)" and "With a Few Good Friends." These later songs, as well as some others are performed in part or whole by Carly Simon.
This isn't just some cobbled together sing-along thing. They actually went to the trouble of putting together a real story. Pooh is on a search for his song --- a special song to call his own. He searches all over the Hundred Acre Wood and discovers some of his friends' own special songs. Eventually, he ends up finding "My Song" --- a wonderful number and a great new song.
One odd thing about this here is that repeated lyrics don't show up on-screen, at least not in the normal sing-along font. Fortunatley, close-captioning and/or subtitles are available to fill in.
Overall, I think this is really great. Not only did they manage to pull up some really classic stuff that I'd never heard before, the more recent songs are great as well. A wonderful compilation of classic and new animation and voice talent. Piglet is featured here --- John Fiedler --- may he rest in peace.
This DVD also has some neat special features. The most interesting one is sing-along versions of all the songs except the Carly Simon ones in Spanish and, oddly enough, Italian. I say oddly because Italian isn't an option you would normally see. But it's quite nice to hear. The "Winnie the Pooh" theme song is also included with these, even though the English version on this DVD is a Carly Simon version. The Spanish and Italian version is in the classic style.
The "Word Time" vocabulary activity is so clever! The idea of it is that the viewer is given a word by the narrator and then they select the object on screen that matches it. But the real fun is in selecting items that don't match --- there's some extremely witty and fun commentary from the characters if you do this.
There's also a musical note activity in which short tunes are played on a xylophone and then the player tries to play it back. I don't think this one is too good --- it plays too quickly and you only get two chances --- worse, it's confusing because you end up forgetting where it was you messed up.As for the quality --- I don't see any decline here. The quality is the same as ever, it's just different. Things change, things grow and Pooh is certainly bigger than ever. Sing ho for this DVD!Great for kids (though not those who are too young to really understand or follow it yet) or any Pooh fan.

Dunston Checks in (1996) Review

Dunston Checks in (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You might expect "Dunston Checks In" to be a kiddy or cutesy show, and in a way it is, but it can also be a good family movie for anybody who likes comedies. A manager of a 5-star hotel in New York, Mr. Grant (Jason Alexander), has a great job, but he has to watch every step he takes because if he makes one mistake in the eyes of the owner, Mrs. Dubrow (Faye Dunaway), he could lose his high paying job and go from living in a 5-star hotel to something not so nice. Mr. Grant has two kids to raise, but things just might go haywire when an orangutan starts hanging out at the hotel.
But not to fret, not only is the orangutan named Dunston real smart, he can also make simple things hilarious. "Dunston Checks In" isn't a groundbreaking comedy and it's not that original, but it is fun to watch, and it can be funny. I recommend anybody who likes comedies that feature an animal as the main star to at least rent "Dunston Checks In," if not buying it.

A five star hotel turns into a 3-ring circus when an orangutan named Dunston checks in. Jason Alexander and Faye Dunaway star in this hilarious romp about an orangutan who gets loose in the elegant Majestic Hotel on the eve of the social event of the season. Dodging his jewel-thieving owner and the frantic hotel manager, Dunston is befriended by the manager's ten-year old son, Kyle, who is determined to help his new friend escape. Filled with laughter and comic high-jinks, "Dunston Checks In" is "a steady stream of giggles for those who get a kick out of monkey business." (Henry Sheehan, Orange County Register)

101 Dalmatians (1996) Review

101 Dalmatians (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Disney remade their classic animated film of the same name 35 years after the original, as a live-action movie in 1996. The tale is familiar to most: two Dalmatians, Pongo & Perdy, bring their owners together. Roger (Jeff Daniels) and Anita (Joely Richardson) fall in love almost at first site when they meet in the park. They get married and their Dalmatians have puppies. Sounds like a lovely romantic tale, right? It would be if it weren't for Anita's boss, the evil Cruella de Vil (Glenn Close). Cruella is a fashionista who loves fur...and her latest desire is to own a coat made of Dalmatian fur. When she learns that Anita's dog has had a litter of 15, she sets her sites on them to make her desire come true. Anita & Roger turn down her offer, so she sends her bumbling minions Jasper & Horace (Hugh Laurie & Mark Williams respectively) to steal them for her.
Does it equal the original? No, not really...but this is not a surprise. How could you top Marc Davis' animation of Cruella, one of the most memorable characters in animation history? Still, you have to give Glenn Close much credit for making Cruella her own...remove her and you have little reason to watch this film. With her fright wig and amazingly over the top costumes, Close truly comes close...she is an evil delight to watch as she barks orders (pun intended) and does everything in her power to make the fur coat a reality. Laurie (now starring in the hit series "House") and Williams are excellent as her bumbling henchman. The animals are also lots of fun to watch, as they often show that they are much smarter than their human counterparts.
Note to parents: this movie is somewhat darker than the animated versions, with a few creepy scenes with the taxidermist. Nothing major, but still parents might want to be careful as Glenn Close's characterization is more frightening and nightmare inducing than her animated namesake.
Sadly and surprisingly, there are no extras on this DVD other than a theatrical trailer. The widescreen (2:35:1) picture is excellent (enhanced for 16x9 TVs), and there is a wonderful Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround mix.
Overall, an enjoyable film that is bumped up a few notches thanks to Glenn Close's performance.

This is a very entertaining movie with fun characters and a good storyline. Alex and Janine are similar to the characters played by Mary-Kate and Ashley in multiple movies. One is a wall flower and day dreamer, while the other is outgoing and not afraid to sya what's on her mind. It is interesting to watch the two adusting to each other's lifestyles. I also discovered that Justin Timberlake is a very good actor! Why isn't he in more movies? Anyway, the other actors are well-cast, and play their parts well. The school snob got on my nerves, and Janine's organizer/slave made me want to smile. I was very surprised to see that this movie is buyable! But I'd rather just watch it when it comes on the Disney Channel. When it does come on, I warn you, DON'T TURN IT ON OR YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TURN IT OFF UNTIL THE END!

Dinosaur (2000) Review

Dinosaur (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought a lot about this review.
I'm an animation buff, so I can well say that this film received the maximum rank on animation - the amount of details and thought that was put into every movement and shot is admirable, and the result shows. It is certain that the animators did an excellent job - even went down to details such as having the muscles of the dinosaurs vibrate when the foot hits the floor. Sometimes I actually forgot that this was an animation movie, and mistook it for a National Geographic feature.
The story, on the other hand, is rather disappointing. It seems like the development process stopped after the story became reasonable. The characters are only skin-deep, and it is frustrating for someone who had already seen a couple of movies before that this one brings nothing new to the screen. It's sad to notice so many 'deja vu's while watching, seeing so many thing that you have already seen before, especially that the main character - Aladar - is an orphan dinosaur raised by monkeys, carries a close resemblance to Disney's previous feature, Tarzan.
Two thumbs up for the music - it really hits the spot. The composer captured every moment so naturally that it fits like a glove. Nothing I say can convey the impression, so you might as well see it for yourself.
All in all, an amazing animation feature with a weak plot. This film - in itself - receives 4 stars from me, although if I had calculated my impression on the Collector's edition, I would have definitely lowered it to 3. It simply wasn't worth the extra money I added. The second DVD contains very little material, and I really expected more from a highly documented production such as this one to include more material. People purchase this item to get more information about the animation process, and I really feel like I wanted more. I really think that I should have bought the regular edition and saved some cash.

The Return of Jafar/Aladdin and the King of Thieves (Aladdin 2 & 3 Collection) (1996) Review

The Return of Jafar/Aladdin and the King of Thieves (Aladdin 2 and 3 Collection) (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Disney suddenly recognized the marketing potential of direct-to-video sequels in the 90's. The 1994 sequel to Aladdin entitled The Return of Jafar had none of the style that made Aladdin so memorable. With second rate songs, a second rate story clearly designed as a pilot for the TV series The Return of Jafar could have been produced by any studio and the generic quality of the film is one of its principle flaws. On a scale from A to F, I'd have to rate Jafar as a C-. The animation has little of the character one expects from Disney and has bottom of the barrel production values. The only redeeming qualities are the return of actors Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried, Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin. Dan Castellaneta stands in for Robin Williams who got into a royal pissing match with Disney when they used his voice without permission for toys and marketing purposes. In "The Return of Jafar" the evil sorcerer returns to try and take over the kingdom and get revenge against the "street rat" Aladdin. Even a guest appearance by Jason Alexander can't save this from being strictly mediocre at best. The songs are second rate and can't hold a candle to the brilliant material written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman from the first film. This film is in a standard aspect ratio meaning it was designed for a square TV screen. "Thieves", on the other hand, has been presented in a 1.78:1 widescreen format so it will play well on 16x9 widescreen TVs. I know the original VHS version of "Thieves" was in a standard format and this is the first I've seen of the film in 1.78:1 widescreen (although it might have been in that format for laserdisc).
"Aladdin and the King of Thieves" improves on Jafar. With a larger budget, smoother animation, better production design and the return of Robin Williams as Genie, the third film almost approaches the majesty of the first. Aladdin goes in search of his father and, with the help of an enchanted septer found among the King's treasures, he finds him only to discover that his father leads the 40 Thieves. With appearances by the late Jerry Orbach and the return of the principle cast from the first film, Aladdin and the King of Thieves rates a solid B. Although the songs aren't quite up to Menken and Ashman standards are improved with a variety of songwriters contributing material.
The vibrant colors and slick production design bring the third film closer to the original although it can't quite match the first film for sheer invention. John Rhys-Davies ("Lord of the Rings", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Sliders") turns in a great performance as Aladdin's father. It sounds as if the director had Sean Connery in mind as Rhys-Davies' performance sounds quite a bit like Connery. Likewise, the late Jerry Orbach's performance as one of the villans of the film is a highlight as well. Both films come with games that can be played by tykes. Careful What You Wish For and Disneypedia are the two extras included with Jafar. The former make keep tykes interested one or two times but will lose them with later viewings. The latter discusses different wishing traditions from around the world and is pretty decent although short and very sketchy in terms of details. The best featurettes are saved for Thieves. Loot in the Liar and Bag the Bad Guys are the two games included here. Again, like most Disney games designed for their DVD releases, they'll keep kids interested a couple of times at best. Both of these are at least equal to if not better than the single game on Jafar. Behind the Microphone takes us on a visit with the people who did the voices for Thieves. It's a solid featurette and once again better than that included on Jafar. There's also a song selection with lyrics that pop up on the screen. That feature will come in handy when the kids want to sing along with the songs for both films. As I mentioned before, none of the tunes can hold a candle to the Menken/Ashman songs but the superior material in Thieves at least has a sense of melody (although Orbach's In or Out song from Thieves should have been left out as its probably one of the worst of the bunch).
Jafar will provide an entertaining diversion for kids who loved Aladdin. While the film compare to the original or the third film Thieves its enjoyable. Thieves, on the other hand, could have been a contender. If Disney had chosen to put a bit more effort and money into it I have no doubt that they could easily have created a classic equal to the original. As it is, Thieves is very close to the quality of the original film with a witty script. The film is hampered by the same limited animation (although superior to Jafar) and by songs that can't hold a candle to the Menken/Ashman songs. The image quality, transfer, sound and extras are all exceptionally good given that these were created for the video market only.
