Three Days (2001) Review

I love this movie. I watch it on TV when it's on but some years it's only on once or not at all. It's not a movie all about Santa Claus. I'm religious and love the message of the movie, however it does not have a religious theme to it. You don't have to have that background to appreciate that it's all about love. It's about what love really is and what it takes for a man to realize how much he loves his wife and how far he will go to show that love. The ending is perfect. I can't believe they have not made this for every region. Before purchase, I called the company who made one of my DVD players because it did not have the region on it. They told me it would play any region but they lied. The only way I can play this movie is through my portable DVD player. I can hook my portable DVD player up to play through my TV so the whole family can enjoy the movie. It will also play on my computer. The movie is wonderful, but I would caution everyone to make sure they have a way to play it before purchase. I really don't understand why they don't make it for region 1 players.

I've gotten the other Sing Along Videos in Spanish and this is by far the best one. It is simply awesome! Weather you get it for youngsters that are learning Spanish as a second language or those that already master Spanish...it is simply the best.
ADVISORY NOTE: IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN UNDER 3 OR 4 BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A PIRATE SONG WITH THE VIDEO THAT MAY BE A BIT SCARY TO SOME CHILDREN.
BE AWARE AND PREVIEW WITHOUT THEM IF POSSIBLE. MY SON WHEN HE WAS 2 WAS VERY SCARED WHEN HE WATCHED THAT PARTICULAR SONG VIDEO BUT NOW
THAT HE IS 3-1/2 HE LOVES THE ENTIRE VIDEO. MY FIRST-BORN SON NEVER HAD A PROBLEM AT ANY AGE AND NEITHER DID MY DAUGHTER. EVERY CHILD
IS DIFFERENT! ENJOY!!! LAUGH AND SING AND DANCE WITH YOUR CHILDREN; THEY WILL REMEMBER FOR A LIFETIME!!!

"Barney's Musical Scrapbook" is a show full of segments of "Barney & Friends" episodes from the 1995 season. It includes the characters: Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Shawn, Tosha, Jason, Kathy, Juan, Carlos, Min, Kenneth, and Julie. The segments are from the "Barney & Friends" episodes: "Shawn and the Beanstalk," "Up we go!," "It's raining, it's pouring...," "Ship, Ahoy!," and "Shopping for a Surprise." It is approximately 50 minutes long and has 16 songs. This show is not a song's tape, but it is a very good show!

CHAIN REACTION (1996) Review

CHAIN REACTION (1996)
Average Reviews:

I was hoping this movie would be either a porn or a documentary. It turned out to be neither. Although I'm an admitted fan of the Bel Ami boys - especially Johan - I was pretty disappointed. It's about as close to an R-Rated gay porn as you can get.
It's trying to be a documentary about a young gay's "struggle with being gay" (Can you say... Cliche?) and it is missing the mark completely. The only dialog in the movie is a British voice using an annoying echo to represent Johan's thoughts. I'm sure even the real Johan is disappointed with the "thoughts" which are more like random ramblings.
If you like looking at naked Bel Ami bodies (presented in the "Playboy Channel" style) and are willing to use ALOT of imagination, this is your film. But be warned, there are much better ways to spend your dollars and see these same bodies doing much more. These are all XXX gay porn stars. This must have been a walk in the park for them.
My advice is not to waste your time or money on this movie.

Noah (1998) Review

Noah (1998)

Disney and Tony Danza - a combination that guarantees entertainment! Norman Waters, the widower with three sons and a not-so-honest construction worker, receives the test of his life when God sends a messenger to him. The messenger must convince Norman to build an arc, as he will be sending the disasterous flood in the near future. Norman responds like anyone probably would in the similar situation, but when he accepts his fate, his sanity begins to be questioned by those around him. Eventually, a local pet shop owner helps him supply the animals for the arc, even sacrificing her entire savings and business for the project.... all while the two fall in love. This project tests his relationship with his sons, with their various feelings about their dad's activities. In addition, the community, friends, and business associates add to the complications of Norman's fate. Norman cannot help to make some permanent changes in his beliefs and future actions, but you'll be surprised at the results. This is an excellent movie, that does stress the fact that sometimes things may not quite make sense to others - but we all have to do, what we have to do. There are many more levels to this movie that I can describe here in such a short review... so I highly recommend you watch this movie to obtain the full impact of it. Enjoy!

Harriet the Spy (1996) Review

Harriet the Spy (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Harriet M. Welsch (Michelle Trachtenberg) is an 11-year-old-spy who dreams of being a writer. She explains her obsession with writing by saying: "I want to remember everything, I want to know everything."
In her PRIVATE notebook, she writes down her secret thoughts. Sometimes her comments are all too honest and not that nice. Harriet doesn't yet understand the power of words, but soon she learns, when all her friends become her worst enemies.
Rosie O'Donnell plays the perfect nanny. Her advice to Harriet is that while she might want to know everything, it won't do her a bit of good unless she uses her knowledge to put beauty into the world.
Harriet goes through a great learning experience where she finally realizes she should participate more in life and learns to let go of her writing obsession in order to embrace life. After all, true friends are what makes life wonderful and worth living.
This is a funky, modern story that teaches a wonderful lesson. It is about learning to forgive and being vulnerable enough to be able to say you are sorry.
A great lesson for all ages!

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999) Review

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While my kids may be a bit young for this video, the oldest (just under 3) appreciates the sing-along far better than she tolerates the Winnie the Pooh cartoons; for some reason she can't make it through a half-hour of the show while she can manage this video. She is especially drawn to the Scrapbook song, which is current Disney channel "filler" between "Bear" and the other shows. Several of the songs are also recognizable from the Tigger movie, which she liked. In all, I think this video is a good way to introduce younger children to Pooh and his friends without losing too much interest. it also makes for interesting times when she expects her parents to read the lyrics to her off the screen; that is probably the real treat here is to hear an adult actually try to keep pace with the show.

The Monster Squad (1987) Review

The Monster Squad (1987)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been waiting for this DVD to come into print for years, and now the wait is finally over. Thanks to Lionsgate for finally stepping up, straightening out the rights issues, and putting together a nice 2-Disc special edition of this classic 80s kids flick.
The Monster Squad, much like the Goonies and the Lost Boys, is a kid's flick at heart, but it doesn't come off as if it were written and directed down to children. The flick stars Andre Gower, Ryan Lambert (of Kids Incorporated fame), Brent Chalem, Michael Faustino and Robby Kiger as a group of kids that have a secret Monster club where they pontificate on all things monster related. Quick, two ways to kill a werewolf? Stumped? That's right, everyone knows you need to shoot `em with a silver bullet. Anyway, the group runs into trouble when unbeknown to them the all too real rouges gallery of the classic Universal monster movies are converging on their town looking to destroy an amulet that can prevent them from taking over the world. Sean, the leader of the club, lucks into a copy of Van Helsing's diary, which provides the instructions to a ritual that will banish the monsters into limbo. With the help of "Scary German Guy" (played by the always excellent Leonardo Cimino) a concentration camp survivor and resident German diary translator, the group bands together to save their families, their town, and quite possibly the entire world.
The film was directed by Fred Dekker and co-written by Fred Dekker and Shane Black (of Lethal Weapon and Predator fame) with amazing special effects and make-up by the legendary Stan Winston. This DVD was made possible by the director, actors, and fans who banded together in the past year through letter writing campaigns and revival screenings which proves just how much of a cult classic this flick is. If you are a generation X'er who's into action, horror or nostalgia the Monster Squad is sure to be a perfect addition to your DVD collection.
The 20th anniversary special edition set is reported to contain 2 audio commentary tracks, deleted scenes, an making of featurette, trailers, as well as a vintage interview with Tom Noonan (who played the Frankenstein's monster.)

Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001) Review

Jett Jackson: The Movie (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Jett Jackson The Movie" is like a cross between "The Parent Trap" and "Pleasantville". Filmed near the end of the Disney Channel series "The Famous Jett Jackson", it expands the series premise to a new feature length movie (this is all new stuff-not a group of old episodes edited together). As in the series, Lee Thompson Young plays the title character-a high school student who is also the star of a futuristic television series where he plays a teen action hero named Silverstone. At the beginning of the movie he is struggling with whether to renew his contract with the show, which is seriously cramping his school and social life. Meanwhile on the show his Silverstone character is unhappy working at Mission Omega Matrix.
One day on the set a malfunctioning prop transports him to a parallel world where he is actually the action hero he is playing. The accident causes him to switch places with his on- screen character, who is transported to Jett's world of family, school, and television. The remainder of the movie concerns the process of Jett and Silverstone figuring out what has happened to them and the challenges of taking over each other's lives. Both the series and the movie have excellent casts with Michael Ironside as the television villain Kragg, Lindy Booth as Silverstone's partner Hawk, Ryan Sommers Baum as Jett's friend J.B., and Kerry Duff (no relation to Hillary) as his love interest.
This is an entertaining film, especially for those who enjoy the series. It has the good production elements of more expensive Disney features including a lot of close-ups of the cast and some nice morphing effects. The series itself was a cheaper production, it relied mostly on wide shots and had minimal effects.
The film's limited popularity is probably because it is a bit too serious; they could have had a lot more fun with the premise. Young is not very good at expressing wide-eyed wonder at what is happening to either of his characters, he just looks stunned most of the time.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

Inspector Gadget (1999) Review

Inspector Gadget (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know that the movie didn't do as well in the box office and that critics bashed it. The question is why I bought this DVD. I have a few reasons actually. #1) I was a big fan of the animated series as a child. #2) I like Disney films #3) It was on sale. Three major reasons and yet I even struggled to watch it because it was bashed on so much and it was only 78 minutes long.
So, I was expecting a bad film but you know what. I enjoyed it. I actually liked the movie. It's definitely not below average.
Matthew Broderick is actually a good Inspector Gadget. I think with the way movies are, many people tend to want to see a different Inspector Gadget, perhaps someone more violent. Well, if that's the case...there is the Criterion edition of Robocop with the added gory scenes that you can buy. This movie was made for kids as was the cartoon and I'm a kid at heart because I grew up with the show.
One of the things you'll notice is that it's a Disney DVD with extra's. Yes, it's a miracle isn't it. The majority of all Disney DVD's don't have squat in them. This one has a 30 minute featurette on "Go Inside Inspector Gadget".It also has a music video from Youngstown and the trailer. Not bad Disney...keep adding more! Also, the sound is well done with the 5.1. Good use of the rear channels!
One negative was the layer change. It was during a so-so important scene and that was not good to place it in that area of the movie. They could of put it somewhere else.
Otherwise a good movie for the young ones. Just a little warning for parents with younger children: Seeing Broderick with his head backwards or seeing him get blown up may frighten your child.
So, all in all an enjoyable movie for the family.

Wedding Daze (2004) Review

Wedding Daze (2004)

"Wedding Daze" is a Hallmark TV movie that centers around a father with 3 daughters who all become engaged and begin planning their weddings at the same time! There are several times that the movie reminds me of "Father of the Bride," but I have to say that I think "Wedding Daze" is much more humorous. The family sentiment and closeness is nice; the romances are great. It is a chick flick, but it is an A+ movie!

I bought this movie expecting to see Garwood's book brought to life. I think the only thing the screenwriter read was the back of the book! There was no romance and it was disappointing to watch, expecting (in vain) to see the funny and interesting parts of the book. If you have read the book and loved it, dont watch this movie. If you havent read the book, expect to see an average family drama.

A Holiday to Remember (2002) Review

A Holiday to Remember (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love Christmas Movies and I also love to read romance books and this movie is based on a Christmas themed romance book called A Christmas Love by Kathleen Creighton though the title of the movie was changed to A Holiday to Remember. I have the book this movie was based on but haven't read it yet but I did peek at a couple of pages in the book and it looks like Carolyn and Clay didn't know each other in the book until they were adults but they changed it in this movie that they had known each other in their past and were getting married after they had finished high school but she jilted him and left him standing at the alter. Though I didn't read the book except to peek at a couple of pages and I can't really compare them I can say that the movie was good and the acting was very good especially from Connie Sellecca, Randy Travis and Rue McClannahan. The movie is about a recently divorced woman named Carolyn played by Connie Sellecca who takes her teenage daughter and moves from California back to the small Southern town she grew up in, the town she hasn't been back to since she jilted her fiance Clay at the alter and when she gets there she runs into Clay played by Randy Travis and his aunt Leona played by Rue McClannahan, a character unlike the character Blanche she played on The Golden Girls but more like a combination of Rose, Sophia and Dorothy, a down homey type like Rose but feisty like Sophia and wise like Dorothy but the only resemblance between Leona and Blanche is the southern accents. This is good movie!

Flubber (1997) Review

Flubber (1997)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am opposed to remakes in general. Rarely are they as good as the original. I have thought, and continue to think, that remakes are a way to admit that filmmakers are not as creative as they once were, and a remake begins with a completed product. Having said all that, I did like this movie. The movie has problems, but I managed to ignore the problems and have a few good laughs.
Professor Philip Brainard (Robin Williams) is a science genius. Professor Brainard has enough inventions in his house to keep a fleet of patent agents and attorneys busy for years. However, the movie ignores such trivialities to focus on Professor Brainard's need to develop a cheap source of power. The story has Brainard focusing on his pursuit of cheap power to the exclusion of his fiancée Dr. Sara Jean Reynolds (Marcia Gay Harden) and his impending marriage to her. Brainard also seems to be oblivious that Wilson Croft is out to steal his girl, his inventions and sink the college at which they are employed, all at the same time.
Robin Williams is in good form, providing laughs throughout the film. While Fred MacMurray had an air of absent-minded innocence that Williams fails to achieve, Williams brings his own style to the role and does a good job. Marcia Gay Harden almost seems unnecessary to the film though I did like her character. Williams's frenetic characterization of Brainard makes everyone else seem mundane in comparison.
Two of the biggest stars in this movie are special effects, the flubber and a flying robot. The flubber sings and dances and squeaks like a mouse. The robot watches too many soap operas and movies and is jealous of Sara Jean. The robot works diligently to keep the wedding from happening.
This movie does ignore a lot of things in order to keep the plot moving along. I kept wondering how Brainard created an intelligent flying robot the size of a football. Brainard also ignores the need for nuclear elements to power his flubber, with the attendant problems associated with nuclear materials. The missing of the wedding seemed an excessive plot detail, and I found that portion of the plot distracting.
I think the original "Absent-Minded Professor" movie remains superior to the remake. However, if you ignore that this movie is a remake and you are able to ignore the inconsistencies, the movie has a number of very funny moments. I would consider this movie for a family library, though some of the action is quite violent and I would probably limit watching to children ages 7 or 8 and above. Good luck!

Disney couldn't resist the temptation to remake 1961's popular comedy The Absent Minded Professor, so they cast Robin Williams as Professor Philip Brainard (a role vaguely related to the character originated by Fred MacMurray), and the result is a comedy that, frankly, doesn't fully deserve its modest success. It's admittedly clever to a point, and certainly the digitally "flubberized" special effects provide the kind of movie magic that's entertaining for kids and parents alike. The professor can't even remember his own wedding day (much to the chagrin of his fiancée, played by Marcia Gay Harden), and now his academic rival (Christopher McDonald) is trying to steal his latest and purely accidental invention--flying rubber, or ... flubber. The green goo magnifies energy and can be used as an amazing source of power, but in the hands of screenwriter John Hughes it becomes just another excuse to recycle a lot of Home Alone-style slapstick humor involving a pair of bumbling would-be flubber thieves. There's also a floating robot named Weebo and some catchy music by Danny Elfman to accompany dancing globs of flubber, but the story's too thin to add up to anything special. Lightweight fun, but, given the title, it lacks a certain bounce. Of course, that didn't stop Disney's marketing wizards from turning it into a home video hit. Jeff Shannon
