(More customer reviews)"Meet Prince Charming" looks like something right out of a Romance Film 101 class. You have two neighbors, Samantha (Tia Carrere) and Jack (David Charvet), who hate each other at the start of the film. Why? Who knows...they never tell us what caused the tension to begin with. They both end up at the same dating service in the quaint little borough of Manhattan, NY. The service they use has a website and both of them immediately find someone online who they like. Neither one knows that they are in reality becoming enamored with the neighbor that they so despise (Imagine that!). Eventually, they go on a blind date and find out that they are actually made for each other (Imagine that again!!). Some of your favorite movie cliches are here too. You know...like the one where somebody tries to stop somebody else from getting married while they are at the altar. Or the one where two people who don't like each other get stuck in an elevator all by themselves. You gotta love it! The best thing of all is the long list of annoying product placements. It's like watching one long commercial. In fact, you should check out the credits and see the list of all the companies who paid to have their products in this film! All in all, the acting of both Carrere and Charvet is competent. I just wish they could find better scripts than boring junk like this.

(More customer reviews)IT'S FINALLY HERE! I feel like I've been waiting all my life for "He-Man" to be released on DVD...and the day has finally come!
First of all, He-Man has never looked better. I was absolutely thrilled when I picked up this DVD set and saw how cool the packaging was. The cover and interior photos are fabulous, and the DVD set comes with two 4 x 6 postcards featuring "Masters of the Universe" comic book art. It's gorgeous!
Now on to the best part...the DVDs themselves! This is a two-disc collection of ten classic "He-Man" episodes. Fans of the show were actually given the opportunity to vote on the episodes they wanted to include on the He-Man.org Web site several months ago...I'm thrilled that some of my favorite episodes were included! The restoration of the cartoon is amazing...it looks absolutely beautiful, with no graniness at all! The sound is greet, the navigation menus are great, and the bonus features are FABULOUS! In addition to two feature-length documentaries, there's also a sneak preview of upcoming "He-Man" releases. Beginning this fall, all 130 episodes of the series will be released in four special edition DVD boxed sets. I'M SO EXCITED! The only thing that would make me happier is if "She-Ra" follows suit...and I have a feeling it will!
Even if you plan on buying the complete series when it is released, this special collector's edition is a must-have for any fan...and the price is unbelievable! I would have paid a hundred bucks to have my favorite childhood cartoon series on DVD! (Oops...I'd better be careful who I say that to!) Pick up your copy of "He-Man" on DVD today!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)As a Harry Potter fan, I'm so happy with this movie adaptation. It's very true to the book (which is fabulous in my opinion, I don't know why some people complained about that), although there are some slight differences. The movie makers have done a wonderful job bringing Rowling's world on screen. The visual effects, especially Fluffy, ghosts, chess pieces, Quidditch game were done exceptionally well.
The second disc is all extras. I guess it was designed for Harry Potter fans and people who enjoyed the movie very much because it was assumed that you've watched the movie beforehand. The deleted scenes were a little hard to find since several steps have to be taken. First I had to go to get the key and take money from the Gringotts bank in Diagon Alley. Then purchase wand from Olivander's. Then return to the school and attend classes. Go to potions class and answer three questions. The questions were a little bit of a hassle for me. Answer for the 1st question: Aphrodel and the tube next to it (forgot name); 2nd question: wolfsbane and monkhood; 3rd question: snake fangs and porcupine quills. After the questions, select winged key by trying out a few. Then select the orange colored potion and you will see the mirror of erised. There are a total of 7 deleted scenes. Although some will say they are not worth the hassle, but I liked them. My other favorite extra is the interview. It was good to learn about the behind the scenes interaction of the director/producer/actors etc and production of the movie in general. They also mentioned something about the second movie.
Overall good buy. Worth every cent. Will rewatch it on DVD many times.

(More customer reviews)You may have caught some of "street magician" David Blaine's act on his TV specials that had limited runs. Not too worry; "David Blaine: Fearless" gathers them all up, and throws them all onto one DVD, and then some. You can generally find this DVD priced the same as "discount" DVDs, so you won't be paying the normal $20 plus that DVDs command.
Blaine's amazing tricks are super-cool but wouldn't have held their own displayed merely in a Vegas showroom; it's the who and where that makes this DVD special. Blaine often performs his tricks up close and with plenty of audience participation, to an extremely diverse set of people. He bites a quarter in half and spits it back to make it whole in front of some LA street thugs. He performs his famous levitation at the Dallas Cowboys training camp, sending Deion Sanders running, his wits barely intact. He pulls various "pick a card" tricks on a pair of grandmothers sitting on a bench, despite their initial declaration that they're not into magic tricks. A bunch of soccer girls at a rest stop scream with glee when makes a name appear out of ash.
Blaine even ventures into a remote South American jungle, where an tribe that has been mostly isolated from civilization serves as the challenge; the only way he can communicate with them is magic, but will "pick a card" mean anything to them or impress a culture with no concept of quarters, Aces or Spades? Blaine adapts and amazes them by squeezing drinkable amounts of water from random places or making a ball multiply within a closed fist. He does this again with other journeys to foreign areas.
Many of Blaine's tricks are true head-scratchers that will leave even the most cynical viewer amused. I've already described a significant amount of his simpler tricks, so I'll leave the rest for the DVD to show, including an act that is more endurance than magic: fighting hypothermia and mental breakdowns as he remains encased in an ice prison on a busy sidewalk for a couple of days.
He has a different sort of charisma; he's so laid back but you still get the sense that he truly treats magic as an art, not as an attempt to hoodwink you; but at the same time he isn't so overly serious that you can associate with him.
This is a great DVD to have; magic is an all-genre, all-gender thing. You can pop "Fearless" in anytime at any setting, be it a small gathering, a big party, or in your portable DVD player while waiting for your flight at the airport. There's very little filler material, which is a good thing; they've packed in as much material as they can.
A must-buy for anyone.

Set long ago after the Ice Age, in a age of barbarian, warriors, kings and sorcery abound as a diabolical tyrant named "Nekron" and his mother "Juliane" who lives at the ice region wants to conquer the region of fire ruled by King Jerol. Suddenly Jerol's beautiful daughter Teegra is kidnapped by Nekron's subhuman hechmen, a warrior named "Lar" must protect her and defeat Nekron from taking over the kingdom as well as having the help of an avenging barbarian warrior named "Darkwolf".
A nicely done animated fantasy that has a combination of live actors traced with animation ( Rotoscoping), it's Ralph Bakshi's second best movie next to "American Pop" and "Wizards" but certainly better than his version of "Lord of the Rings". The movie is also designed by famous artist Frank Farzetta ( whom did covers to Tarzan books, Conan The Barbarian and Vampirella) with some good animation & Coloring especially the impressive rotoscopic stuff and a beautiful hottie for the guys there.
This 2-disc limited edition has great picture & Sound quality, a commentary by director Ralph Bakshi, featurettes, a photo gallery, trailer and the second disc has a documentary on Frank Farzetta and his life.
Most recommended movie to anyone who enjoys fantasy, animation and even anime!

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (Two-Disc Special Edition) (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)The legend is only one water horse lives per generation. When the old one is ready to die, they lay an egg from which the new water horse is hatched and must grow up on its own as an orphan.
In this case, a young boy named Angus McMurrow found the egg and helped the waterhorse hatch and grow. That's not a mean feat, considering this is World War II and a cadre of British soldiers are staying in the manor house where Angus' family lives. But if any kid is in need of a friend, it's Angus. You see, his father went off to war--and Angus still believes he's going to come back despite being told to the contrary. Angus finds a surprising ally in Lewis Mowbray (Ben Chaplin), a returning soldier who still believes in the old myths and is in need of a dream as much as Angus is.
Of course, the complication is the British soldiers led by a toff commander who's noble father probably stuck him in Scotland to keep him out of the action. They think that the Germans are going to come down Loch Ness and they've got the guns and ammo to take care of the problem if they do. Not a healthy environment for a baby water horse to grow up in...
"Water Horse" is beautifully filmed. It captures the rugged beauty of Scotland amazingly. The soundtrack, by James Newton Howard (of Toto fame and too many soundtracks to name) is gorgeous. The music is perfect--as always.
Warnings:
Kids younger than five had problems with some of the scenes and a couple had to escort their frightened parents out into the lobby

This might not be a legitimate complaint if these versions of the films didn't already exist. In the US, they are aired quite regularly on ABC Family, and are quite good.
These extended editions of the film make the price point of the first two versions palatable, but their absence makes you wonder what exactly you're paying for with both this and the ultimate edition of PoA.

(More customer reviews)Like many of you who purchased the first two ultimate editions at a pretty penny, i was expecting extended editions of movies 3 and 4. What a disappointment! Were the big wigs at WB thinking that their fans would triple dip editions when they bring out all films in one super ultimate collection? I already owned all of the HP on Blu, but sold them when i started buying the Ultimate editions. I will NOT be purchasing 3 and 4. Very poor on WB's part to say its ultimate, and include 8 hours of bonus materials, but not the few extra scenes that regularly show on TV. Very poor indeed.
