This series of instructional videos features couples, and is meant to help couples improve their sex lives. If you haven't watched one of the Loving Sex DVDs before, this will be an interesting experience. One segment features a woman teaching another woman strip tease and lap dance techniques, and both women definitely enjoy themselves. I think men will particularly enjoy that segment! The DVD is tastefully explicit and highly erotic without being offensive or downgrading. Definitely recommend!

Loving Sex: Sex Around the House (2002) Review

Loving Sex: Sex Around the House (2002)
Average Reviews:

Reviewed by: Katie Rose
`Sex Around the House' is one in the `Loving Sex' series, instructional videos designed to help couples through different aspects of sexuality. If you've never watched an instructional video this is going to be an interesting adventure.
Since I wasn't sure what to expect from this video, my partner and I debated on getting comfortable or making a pizza before watching the festivities. Since this technically was work, we decided on the pizza which I threw in the oven, grabbed my notebook, then hit the play button.
It opened with a sort of `man on the street' scene in which a woman was asking passersby what they would do with assorted household objects - a rolling pin, a spatula, a feather duster, and much to my partner's horror clothes pins. While the people were hesitant to offer uses for these items, they came up with some typical and humorous responses. From there it took us to the actual introduction where Julie Ashton, a bright and blonde woman is seated at a sofa interviewing Dr. Ava Cadell. Dr. Cadell is one of the nation's leading sexologists. She was dressed professionally, had dark hair, and if I thought Julie was bubbly, Dr. Cadell bubbled over with enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Sex Around the House - is about finding new sexual pleasures right at home. Julie goes on to invite Dr. Cadell into her home. She explains that she is having several couples over for the weekend and that she'd love the Doctor to give them a personal lesson. The doctor agrees, and we then are transported to Julie's home. What follows is the introduction of Julie's friends to Dr. Cadell who goes on to show the same items that were offered to the people on the street. She again asks for suggested use, but then offers a few ideas of her own -along with a warning that items used for sexual purposes should not be used for everyday purposes. The strangest had to have been the pasta spoon. The doctor suggests that you can use it by rubbing it lightly up and down your partner's body or stroking it through their hair. She encourages the group to look at everything in their home as a potential sex object. Think about how the object can heighten your senses.
After the doctor leaves, the video goes through a series of scenes showing each of the couples as the have sex utilizing Dr. Cadell's advice - sex in the laundry, the kitchen, the bathroom, the office, even a closet. The most novel idea I thought was by using the phone to call your partner in another area of the house and then engage in some foreplay phone sex.
Obviously, not everyone has a home as well put together at Julies. Rooms dedicated as an office/workout room or a sunken tub in their bathroom are not the norm, but I could see how the concept could be adapted to any household. For the entire day after I watched the video, I couldn't help but look twice at every item that I picked up.
Besides the main part of the video, the DVD offers additional sex tips from Dr. Patti Britton, sexuality information, links to important sites and a bonus scene from one of the other Loving Sex programs.
What does it all add up to?
Each of the couples seemed to be actually enjoying themselves. There was banter between each other, none of the `do me now!' type of porno. It was very loving and yet very hot to watch - that is not to say that in real life these items don't go hand in hand, but in the world of porn it's almost nonexistent. Since I'm not an expert in determining when a woman has had an orgasm just by looking at her, I couldn't tell if they truly had, but they did look excited and into what they were doing, not just going through the motions. And when the guys climaxed it looked real. No money shots here!
I liked this video and I would recommend it to couples that are looking to expand their lovemaking beyond the boundaries of their bed. Even if you never have sex outside of the bedroom, the items you bring to your bed will help to enhance and heighten your sexual experience.
By the way, the pizza went uneaten.

NINA HARTLEY'S GUIDE TO BETTER FELLATIO (2002) Review

NINA HARTLEY'S GUIDE TO BETTER FELLATIO (2002)
Average Reviews:

Nina is certainly one of the most attractive of all the adult star, a truly awesome bod. Comes across in this video as quite intelligent and articulate. I love her wholesome attitude about sex and the way she conveys her total enjoyment whenever she is engaging in sex. An attitude also obvious with Barbara Dare. She obviously knows what she is doing as she discusses and performs fellatio. The only shortcoming is that she omits any reference to the guy's climax and the ejaculation that follows. For a guy, the most erotic part of fellatio, for the gal, especially a gal wanting to learn from the video, the part of fellatio that can be the most difficult.

The art and science of fellatio is taught by Nina Hartley, armed with charts, slides and Alex Sanders. Nina says good hand-mouth work practically guarantees a good fellatrix. See her put her theory where her mouth is with "practice, practice, practice!"

Masters of the Pillow (2003) Review

Masters of the Pillow (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are a growing number of docs on porn, but few examine porn and race at the same time. Also, oppressive stereotypes present Asian Americans as asexual. Thus, a tenured professor proposes that a porn film, really a porn scene, with an Asian-American couple be made. This work speaks about the production of the scene as well as interviewing well-known Asian-American scholars and actors about the matter.
Talk about tenure setting professors free! One reason why a Kinsey or Masters & Johnson were considered so revolutionary is because many naysayers deem sex and sexuality unimportant for serious study. Dr. Hamamoto tries to go against this grain. However, even a progressive or horny student may be shocked seeing their gray-haired professor obsessed with writing about and making porn. Part of Hamamoto's project is to promote yellow-on-yellow action. Along that line you learn that he is in an INTRAracial, heterosexual relationship. The film tries to walk a fine line and not alienate biracial Asian Americans or those in interracial relationships.
Like "The Slanted Screen" and other projects, this work focuses on East and Southeast Asians. It completely ignores South Asians and that may upset some viewers.
When I saw this at an arthouse screening, they showed the blue scene that was produced. I don't think this disc include it, unfortunately. So if you are looking for the real action, you gotta visit a certain type of store or a video store with a certain money-making section, if you know what I mean.
One of the most poignant scenes to me was when Hamamoto and his girlfriend disagreed on whether to film a controversial, though almost requisite, act in blue movies. The point is that this film doesn't leave gender at the door. It tries to be gender-diverse, though it is clearly not sexual orientation-diverse.
In brief, I liked this documentary immensely and I bought a copy for my cousin as a Christmas gift. I think it will be incredibly useful for Ethnic Studies or Asian-American studies majors. Though risqu'e, this was a needed and quality work.

The Other Side of Sunday (1998) Review

The Other Side of Sunday (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The movie tells the story of a sixteen (?) year old girl, growing up in the cold environment of an orthodox, Norwegian church as the vicar's daughter. She is a very contemplative teenager, looking through the hypocrisy of the peolple that surround her. She strongly feels that the 'God' these people worship is a god that squeezes the life out of everyone who is trying to follow his heart. Her rebellion against this only grows by every question she poses against this rule-based Christianity that remains unanswered. It takes a lot of nerve and character strength to stand up against the prevailing morals in such a small community as she is living in, but at the end of the movie she has gathered enough courage to do so. By that time, this oppressing envinronment has cost the life of the only person in church she really could talk to. But saying more would be giving it all away. Though somewhat exagerating in black-and-white oppositions, this movie still tells a beautiful tale!

Tantric Massage DVD Review

Tantric Massage DVD
Average Reviews:

Not very instructional, this would better be called a demonstration. It is best paired with the book "The Essential Tantra: A Modern Guide to Sacred Sexuality".
Neither of these are actually Tantra. If you are looking for something Sacred, look elsewhere. However, if you are interested increasing sexual pleasure through Tantra-like activities and positions, these are certainly amongst the better learning aids you can get.
The video does show graphic demonstrations of the more intimate areas... your imagination does not have to go to far with this one. Coupled with the book I mentioned, you will build a solid understanding of erotic massage techniques.
I gave it 3 stars because it isn't tantric as the name implies. I would give it 4 stars if they called it what it is - Erotic Massage.

Lolita (1998) Review

Lolita (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There is a moment in Adrian Lyne's LOLITA that effectively captures the twisted, yet surprisingly innocent feeling that Vladimir Nabokov wanted to portray with his novel. When Lolita, wonderfully played by newcomer Dominique Swain, is rushing up the stairs to say goodbye to Humbert Humbert (Jeremy Irons), before she leaves for summer camp, you realize that the look of excitement in Jeremy Irons face, and the nervous posture he has is that of an innocent child in love.
Indeed it is true that Humbert is a child at heart, a fact which becomes clear early in the movie, when we learn a little bit about Humbert's first encounter with love and its subsequent painful and unexpected loss.
It seems impossible to not compare Lyne's version with Stanley Kubrick's version, made over 35 years ago. I have to admit that I am an avid Kubrick fan, and that I always thought his version of Nabokov's novel, if not faithfully reproduced, was a classic. So it was that with apprehension (and some morbid curiosity) I decided to watch Lyne's version. Boy was I blown away.
It is a terrible thing that our society as a whole, at this day and age, can't see pass the taboo that apparently clogs the story. It is sad because Lyne's LOLITA is an excellent and beautiful film in every respect. From Lyne's carefully crafted visual style, to the outstanding performance given by both Swain but especially by Irons (this is his movie), to the heart-breaking music score by legendary composer Ennio Morricone. Everything is in place here.
It is clear that Lyne has a profound understanding of the novel, he successfully directs the story in a way the slowly engulfs you and never seems to fall into the traps that plagued Kubrick's version. There are a great many things that you will discover in this movie, not the least of which is the realization that, deep down inside, there is a place in each and everyone of us where love seems to have no age. In the end you understand the reasons behind the story, you will see Humbert's joy reflected in your eyes and his tears will fall down your face, but perhaps most shocking of all, you will feel like him.
Please, do yourself a favor and see this movie on DVD. Trimark has done an excellent job by including a very insightful commentary track by Adrian Lyne, a wealth of deleted scenes (some of which I wish were on the film), theatrical trailers, and perhaps the most wonderful feature of all, a casting session with Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain, where you see them rehearse a scene, and later get to see the final scene. Highly recommended.
