The Liberace Show (2004) Review

The Liberace Show (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"The Liberace Show" features about 15 selections from the early Liberace TV shows of the 50s. It's a somewhat different collection in that the majority are vocals, which Liberace phased out in his later performances. They are vintage Liberace, though--full of his special brand of corn mixed with music. There's also his guest appearance on the Jack Benny (TV)Show, where they perform together. Although he's in black & white, with only two rings, this is a worthy addition to any collection. Hopefully, it might inspire Warner Bros. to release "Sincerely Yours" on DVD, and also his "Live" appearance with the London Philharmonic & TV specials which are available on VHS (3 tape set).

Murder One - The Complete First Season (1995) Review

Murder One - The Complete First Season (1995)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
TV Guide hailed Murder One as 'The Best Show You're Not Watching' mid first-season, and, believe me, they were right.
The premise of Murder One is simple enough; to take you, step by step, through a sensational murder trial. A series of twists and turns within the first four episodes leads to the arrest of drug-addicted movie star Neil Avadon who turns to his former lawyer Ted Hoffman for help.
The show takes you through the entire trial, from jury selection to the verdict and beyond. Each episode reveals more about the case itself, about the young victim Jessica Costello, and the tragic life she led up until her murder. The defendent, Neil, has no memory of the night she died and doesn't even know himself if he's innocent or guilty.
Ted Hoffman and Associates, the law firm at the center of the trial, is staffed with brilliant attorneys who passionately fight for Neil and their other clients with an exuberance and passion seldom seen in present-day law shows. They actually *care*, and through them you will, too. I'd love to tell you more, to detail the fascinating and brilliant plot twists and revelations that you'll journey through watching this show, but to do so would spoil the incredible experience of seeing it yourself, from episode one to the end.
This show first aired when I was eleven years old. Ten years later I still vividly remember it as one of the best, most well-written and riveting dramas I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.

The Prisoner: The Complete Series (40th Anniversary Collector's Edition) (1968) Review

The Prisoner: The Complete Series (40th Anniversary Collector's Edition) (1968)
Average Reviews:

Well not exactly Patrick McGoohan's opening from The Prisoner, but it did catch your attention :-). Seriously here they are, all 17 episodes plus the Prisoner Video Companion originally offered on MCI Home Video now on DVD compliments of our good friends at A&E. What's nicer is the episodes are arranged in what the fans believe to be the chronological order of the episodes in terms of Number 6's time in the Village rather than order of original airdate (although some of them are in airdate order). As a hint at this look carefully at "The General" and "A, B and C". Both star Colin Gordon as Number 2, but in the opening for "A, B and C" he says "I am number 2" rather than "The new number 2". Also this set contains something released on video previously but only in England, a special edition of the 5th episode of the series, "The Chimes of Big Ben". Definitely the best of McGoohan's 3 British Secret Agent types series, but also the quintessential scifi series as well. By the way, a special debt of gratitude to A&E Homevideo. When this series first came out on VHS on MPI Homevideo in 1990, they made a muff in the episode "Checkmate". In the "Where am I" segment of the opening sequence it started with McGoohan doing it with the fore mentioned Colin Gordon even though Peter Wyngarde played Number 2 in this episode. By the third line "That would be telling" the tape was ok. I can't speak for the new A&E VHS copy, but on these DVDs the muff has NOT recurred. Which means either A&E acquired a better copy of the episode to restore on DVD or someone told them about the flub from 11 years ago. So kudos to A&E Video for to repairing this decade old "blooper". This 10 pack is much better buy than the 5 sets of 2 DVDs individually. Get it now, return to the Village and escape at your own pace.

Dragnet 1968: Season Two (1970) Review

Dragnet 1968: Season Two (1970)
Average Reviews:

OUT with Universal and IN with SHOUT! Factory.
Major kudos to Universal for allowing SHOUT! Factory to take over the Dragnet franchise! This is THE classic Dragnet that we grew to and know love with Jack Webb's Joe Friday teamed with Harry Morgan as Officer Bill Gannon. SHOUT! Factory has a superb track record with crisp video/audio season sets as with "Adam 12", S.2-5, and "Dragnet 1968" has followed suit. Among the 28 episodes of Season 2 are two of Dragnet's finest narratives; "The Shooting Board" & "The Big High".
And just check out the super bonus features for Dragnet 1968: Season Two--
*Dragnet 1966 Pilot Movie
*"Jack Webb: The Man Behind Badge 714" Featurette
*Original Dragnet Trailer
*Commemorative Booklet
Optimistically seasons 3 & 4 are on their way. This really makes up for the short comings of Season 1 from Universal!UPDATE: 07.14.10
As many reviewers have noted, SHOUT! Factory initially excised the 1st 2:15 minutes from the 1966 Pilot Movie. This footage, while fairly tame for today's dramas, is slightly disturbing but really should have been included. Now I'm hearing that a replacement disc will be offered with the 1966 Pilot Movie intact. Hearing this I promptly sent an email to SHOUT! Factory for a replacement disc on a Friday afternoon and there was my replacement disc #1 in the mailbox the following Monday. Talk about a DVD distributor taking prompt responsibility; Woo Hoo!!!!
UPDATE: 09.07.10
Super good news for Christmas 2010 - SHOUT! Factory will be releasing Dragnet 3rd Season - (Dragnet 1969), being released on December 7, 2010 and now the final season, Dragnet 1970: Season Four spring of 2011!
Much obliged SHOUT! Factory.....

I Love Lucy: The Movie and Other Great Rarities (2011) Review

I Love Lucy: The Movie and Other Great Rarities (2011)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received the "I Love Lucy" complete boxed set for a birthday present, and this "I Love Lucy" movie was included, along with the "lost" pilot, several promos and commentaries, and a colorized version of "Lucy Goes to Scotland". What this is, (and I'm sitting here watching it right now)is three episodes of "I Love Lucy",-- "The Benefit" "Breaking the Lease", and "The Ballet"-- filmed totally separate ( and that you've already seen 1,000 times), "bridged" together with "tag" scenes, filmed at a later date, with the actors doing exposition, such as "remember the time when..." and so forth. For instance: one of the "tag" scenes has "Ethel" sitting at a table in her living room with "Fred", totaling up how much money their Woman's Club made after putting on one of their shows. Ethel wants to give Ricky an "appreciation tea" to thank him for helping them, and she discovers that this severely depletes the profits- which leads her to remember another time she and Lucy needed money.
The highlight of this "movie", to me, is that we actually get to SEE what an "I Love Lucy" audience looks like, as the movie opens with the ticket-holders to the show standing on-line outside, waiting to enter the "Desilu Playhouse." An (obvious) actor couple are ushered in, marveling at the sights. The announcer intros Desi Arnaz, who is as gracious and charming as ever. Desi, in smoking jacket, explains the technical stuff to the audience, cracks a few jokes to put them at their ease, then introduces the cast, ending with his favorite Red-head, (or "Rett- Hett", ala Desi) Lucy. You see the cast take their places, and wait to hear "action!", which, to my recollection, is the only filmed occasion where the actors broke character and acknowledged the audience.
I should add that this "movie" was made before Lucy had "Little Ricky", so all of it takes place during the first season. It's also interesting to see the sets from the audience's point of view. This film WAS intended for nationwide release, but, as the Arnazes were about to sign the contracts for the film "The Long,Long Trailer" (not released until 1954, AFTER Lucy had the baby), Desi Arnaz decided that they would only be competing with themselves at the box office, so this movie was shelved.
If you're a "Lucy" fan, it's a must see if only because it's lost footage of Lucy doing "Lucy". I don't know if I'd have purchased this independently, had it not been included with my boxed set, but it IS an unearthed treasure in the archeological dig for fossils of great pop culture....

In 1953, three classic first season I Love Lucy episodes ("The Benefit," "Breaking the Lease," and "The Ballet") were edited together with newly-filmed connecting scenes to create this never-before-released feature-length film. The film had only a single "test" screening in 1953 at a small theatre in Bakersfield, attended by the Arnazes. But Lucy and Desi had just signed a deal with M-G-M to do "The Long, Long Trailer", and M-G-M, fearing competition, insisted that they shelve the film. And that's literally what happened. I Love Lucy: The Movie was put back on a shelf, in a mislabeled can, and was lost for nearly half a century, until it was discovered in the Paramount vault by Dann Cahn in 2001.

Flipper (1996) Review

Flipper (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I originally bought this movie for my 9-year-old daughter who is a huge fan of both dolphins and Elijah Wood. I didn't expect, however, that the entire family would enjoy it as much as we did! The story was interesting, suspensful and heart-warming. The acting was good -- not cheesy at all (as was another reviewer's opinion). The only complaint I had was the occasional (and unecessary) profanity ... which from what I could tell would be the only reason for it's PG rating. Otherwise this a great movie for the entire family and I would highly recommend it.

Kung Fu: The Complete Series Collection (1972) Review

Kung Fu: The Complete Series Collection (1972)

There are lots of reviews which already talk (extensively) about why Kung Fu was such a great show, and worth owning on DVD. Instead I just wanted to make sure people know what they are getting with this set...
I hesitated to buy this set at first because it had all 3 seasons packaged together, but didn't mention anything about special features, etc. I wanted to make sure I had the commentaries & featurettes that the individual seasons boasted. Eventually, I bought this version because the price difference won me over (just before the holidays it was $35 + super saver shipping!) and I was pleased to find out that the set contained all 3 seasons as they appear individually, as well as a nice little slip cover to store them all together. The individual seasons & this package are the same, except that this one costs far less.

UPDATE: March-22-07
(The "I Love lucy Movie" not to be included in the set! from what I have read Paramount is going to be bringing us a seperate set with the "I Love Lucy" movie and a lost scenes/shows set with bonuses. Look for this set in the near future, this is probably another way for Paramount to make money.) Also in the show "The Celebrity Next Door" this episode is cut because it does no explain how Talula is allergic to strawberries, when originally aired Talula said that she got hives whenever she ate strawberries but on this set it does not explain that. All of the other episodes are perfect and funnier than I remembered them!
Update: May-14-2007
A DVD set was just released called "Lucy's Really Lost Moments' and it will include many lost I Love Lucy scenes and tons of other bonuses including Desi and Lucy appearing on a game show and much more. It is available online through Amazon and other websites and you may be able to purchase it in some video stores also! The average price this set costs online is $10 to $13 and is a GREAT value, I just reserved my copy and can't wait to watch it!!!
I am so exited about "I Love Lucy" season 7-9 coming to dvd and I just can't wait to get it at my door. This set was originally aired on television as The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour and the name of this set has been changed to "I Love Lucy," as that is what it is and should have been called in the first place. The only difference in this set than in Season 1-6 of "I Love Lucy" is that these shows were one hour long episodes instead of half hour episodes, and it continues where Season 6 left off in Connecticut when the gang moved to the country. These seasons have not aired on cable television as much as the other "I Love Lucy" shows, and it is such a disappointment because there are GREAT shows on here. Why do they not air much??? This dvd box set includes 13 classic episodes at each being an hour long and so you get over 13 hours of fun with this set, not mentioning the many bonuses. There will even be some scenes from "I love Lucy" to be set in color and deleted scenes and flubs and fun commercials as well. You will also receive the "I Love Lucy" movie!! It is 3 shows with a continuing story line and has never been shown before, EVER. They were suppose to air it back in the 1950's but it was cancelled due to the Release of "The Long Long Trailer" and it has been lost and forgotten for over 50 years and now we all can own this. They figured that since "The Long Long Trailer was being aired that there was no need for this movie and decided not to air it.One of my favorite shows on this set is "Lucy Takes A Cruise To Havana," in this episode there will be a flash back of how Lucy first met Ricky on her cruise to Havana. This episode was first originally aired as 75 minutes long but 15 minutes had to be cut out and Paramount is including the 75 minute long episode with this set, which hasn't been seen since It's original broadcast. Desi Arnaz did not want anything cut on this episode and he talked CBS in to keeping the added minutes. It took the full 75 minutes to make the episode perfect and Desi wanted everything, he would not settle for edited content. When this show was first originally aired back in the 50's it was the full 75 minutes with commercials but every since than it has appeared on cable edited. Desi Arnaz would be very proud to know that the full content is being released! Here is the episode List: 1.) Lucy Takes A Cruise To Havana
2.) The Celebrity Next Door
3.) Lucy Hunts Uranium
4.) Lucy Wins A Racehorse
5.) Lucy Goes To Sun Valley
6.) Lucy Goes To Mexico
7.) Lucy Makes Room For Danny
8.) Lucy Goes To Alaska
9.) Lucy Wants A Career
10.) Lucy's Summer Vacation
11.) Milton Berle Hides Out At The Ricardos
12.) The Ricardos Go To Japan
13.) Lucy Meets The Moustache

The I Love Lucy Hour Shows is a series of hour-long specials that aired from 1957-1960 that continued the I Love Lucy saga. Housewife Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) lives in Westport Connecticut, with her bandleader husband, Ricky ( real-life husband Desi Arnaz,) and their son, Ricky Jr. (Keith Theibodeaux.) Always nearby are the couple's best friends Fred and Ethel Mertz (William Frawley and Vivian Vance.) Ricky's job as an entertainer requires him to travel a lot. As a result, he often takes Lucy, little Ricky, and the Mertzes with him to such far-off places as Japan and Mexico. Ricky's career also allows him to meet many famous celebrities, from Betty Grable to Ida Lupino. Of course, when Lucy meets up with these celebrities, chaos naturally ensues.

James Clavell's Noble House Review

James Clavell's Noble House
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Noble House is an eight-hour Classic TV Miniseries produced and broadcast in 1988 by NBC. Based on the fantastic and richly detailed novel of the same name by James Clavell, it features a large cast headlined by Pierce Brosnan, who portrays business tycoon Ian Dunross.
This was NBC's second Classic TV Miniseries adaptation of a Clavell novel, the first was 1980s Shogun. Both take place in the same fictional universe, Noble House even featuring connections to Shogun and yet another Clavell novel, Tai-Pan.
For this miniseries, the timeframe of the original novel was changed from the early 1960s to the 1980s.
Other actors include Denholm Elliott, Deborah Raffin, Tia Carrere, John Houseman, Julia Nickson-Soul, and John Rhys-Davies (who also appeared in Shogun.)
Noble House centers around big-business piracy in Hong Kong. The miniseries opens with Brosnan driving through the rain to meet Denholm Elliott, who plays the outgoing "tai-pan" in Hong Kong's oldest and leading trading firm: Struan & Company.
"Tai-pan," a Cantonese expression, means "supreme leader," and at Struan & Company the title has been passed down at least 150 years
Dunross' arch rival and enemy, Quillan Gornt (Rhys-Davles), is tai-pan of the second leading trading company. Not only does Gornt wants to destroy Dunross and take over Noble House, the two men have racing horses that compete against each other as well.
Meanwhile, two American tycoons (Raffin and Ben Masters) have come to Hong Kong to make a financial deal with Dunross.
But in Clavell's Hong Kong there is no such thing as a single deal. Double-dealing and triple-crossing are more the style of the international wheeler-dealers here.
Diverse players here include bankers, government officials, police and a man called "Four Finger Wu" (Khigh Dhiegh), who runs an opium-smuggling syndicate from a junk boat in Aberdeen Harbor and has a mistress one-third his age named Venus Poon (Carrere).
The eight hours practically sizzle, thanks to Bercovici's articulate script (he also wrote the script for the Shogun miniseries).
Viewers a treated to a manipulated run on a bank, selling short on the stock market, the fixing of horse races, a kidnaping, seductions and murders. Running counterpoint are the burning and sinking of a floating restaurant and a catastrophic landslide.
Add to this a couple of juicy love stories, especially the one between Brosnan and Raffin (who brings a light comic element to her role as the tough wheeler-dealer), while everything is done in ravishing cars, speedboats, mansions and casinos.
But, the biggest and brightest star of the show is clearly Hong Kong, which is more like a video game than a city, filled with the exotica and intrigue that you used to find in old movies. Early in the show, a character who's just landed at the airport asks, "What's that smell?" His host answers, "That's the smell of money."
The $16-million-plus production included eight weeks of exteriors shot in Hong Kong and another eight for interiors in the De Laurentiis studio in Wilmington, N.C.
Highly recommended.

Emergency: The Final Rescues Review

Emergency: The Final Rescues
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Warning: some possible spoilers in this review.
After Emergency! finished its 6 year TV episode run, the show then had 6 "made for TV" movies that were released in 1978 (the year following the last season of Emergency!) and 1979. So, technically, this is not "Season 7", although there is about 12 hrs. worth of programming on this set. It would be cool if they released the Emergency +4 cartoons with this final movie set - but I seriously doubt that will happen.
These movies included:
"Survival on Charter 220" - where a small plane collides mid air with a larger passenger jet. They land in a neighbor and the havoc ensues. If I'm not mistaken, Squad 51 is crushed by a part of a plane and Johnny and Roy are trapped inside a house. (2 hr. movie)
"The Steele Inferno" - basically a high rise building fire stretched into a 2 hr. movie.
"What's a Nice Girl Like You Doing?" - Johnny and Roy travel to San Francisco. (2 hr. movie)
"Greatest Rescues of Emergency" - Johnny and Roy are promoted to Captain and reminisce about their days on the squad. The movie is made up mostly of flashback scenes from the TV series, but it is still nice to see Johnny and Roy promoted to Captain (2 hr. movie)
"Most Deadly Passage" - Johnny and Roy travel to Seattle (2 hr. movie)
"The Convention" - Johnny and Roy return to San Francisco (2 hr. movie)
For those who have never seen these two hr. movies, be forewarned that you don't see A LOT of Johnny and Roy in most of these movies (with the exception of "Greatest Rescues of Emergency" - where you see A LOT of Johnny and Roy - but this "movie" consists mostly flashbacks). In fact, there are a number of very long segments in the other movies with no Johnny and Roy. Some of the movies almost come across like they were trying to create a spin off series - because so LITTLE time is spent with Johnny and Roy and so much time is spent with new characters. Further, you won't be seeing any of the other fireman from the series on these TV movies - so no Chet, no Cap, no Marco. You do get to see the Rampart medical staff a bit.
Personally, I am not very fond of these TV movies (with the exception of "Greatest Rescues"). Remember, when I say this, I am a HUGE Emergency! fan. I grew up watching the TV show. I owned a Squad 51 helmet, an Emergency! Jigsaw puzzle, etc. and soon all of the TV seasons on DVD (as soon as Season 6 comes out). I personally met Randolph Mantooth in 2001 (along with other crew members from the show) when Code 3 Collectibles was dedicating their new Emergency! toys at Station 127 in Carson (the station used for the TV series) - got to sit in the refurbished squad. I have visited the station 3 times in the last several years. This is my favorite show of all time (along with the Saint and Mission Impossible) - but these TV movies, honestly, put me to sleep. In my opinion, they are slow moving and have too little of our favorite cast from the series. I will probably buy this set to complete the series, but IMHO, you aren't missing much if you don't own them - but perhaps some of you enjoyed these movies.
While these final movies haven't been released yet, don't expect much in the video quality if the last few seasons are any indication.
Hope this "preview" or review helps. But, remember, at the time I am writing this review, the set has not been released yet.

Too Many Girls - Authentic Region 1 from Warner Brothers with Lucille Ball Review

Too Many Girls - Authentic Region 1 from Warner Brothers with Lucille Ball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Too Many Girls is a charming, light-weight and vapid college musical based on the Broadway show by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. What it has going for it is a fine Rodgers & Hart score, enthusiastic and talented actors (several of whom, such as Eddie Bracken, Desi Arnaz, Hal LeRoy and Van Johnson, were re-creating their Broadway roles), a couple of first-rate production numbers and a nostalgic look at a long-ago time when co-eds wore beanies and college football was played just for the fun of it.
Connie Casey (Lucille Ball), the head-strong daughter of a rich industrialist who has been trying to keep her out of trouble, decides she wants to go to Pottawatomie University, her father's alma mater, in Stop Gap, New Mexico. Dad agrees, but secretly hires four college football stars as bodyguards. "Kelly," he says to one of them, "would you like a job? Good pay, long hours, hard work. You're not afraid of that, I suppose?" "Oh, no, sir," Clint says. "Good pay never frightened me any."
Connie, unknown to her Dad, has fallen for a famous British author who has a ranch near Stop Gap. The four new bodyguards are Clint Kelly (Richard Carlson), Jojo Jordan (Eddie Bracken), Al Terwilliger (Hal LeRoy) and Manuelito Lynch (Desi Arnaz). Once everyone is enrolled, things do not go smoothly. There are lovely co-eds to distract our bodyguards (the ratio of male to female at Pottawatomie is 1 to 10). There is the football team that desperately needs help if it is ever to win a game. There are all those creaking jokes. When Jojo is surrounded by cute and adoring Pottawatomie co-eds one day, he's asked if he'd ever dated any of those eastern girls. "Oh, I went with a senior at Wellesley," Jojo tells them. "They're all air-conditioned." "What do you mean, air-conditioned?" "Forty degrees cooler in the house than on the street."
Mainly, there is Connie to be kept from her paramour, which is both made easier and more difficult when Clint falls for her, Connie reciprocates and then finds out he was sent to keep an eye on her. Well, Connie is hurt and angry. She decides to leave Pottawatomie on the night train going back east...and her football-playing bodyguards must go with her. But wait. There's a crucial game the next day. Without Clint, Jojo, Al and Manuelito there's no hope that Pottawatomie can win. Only if Connie realizes how much she loves Clint and relents can our boys play. I know you're in suspense over what Connie decides, but I don't believe in spoilers. You'll have to watch the movie.
The primary reason to see the movie is the Rodgers & Hart score. This was the only film version of a Thirties Rodgers & Hart production that even remotely resembled the Broadway original. The score has one classic, "I Didn't Know What Time It Was," and one near classic written specifically for the movie, "You're Nearer." Since this is a college movie, Rodgers & Hart came up with some real rousers; pep songs before a game and victory songs after: "'Cause We Got Cake," "Spic and Spanish" and "Look Out." The climax is a near hallucinogenic production number that features a bonfire, pulsing rhythm, flickering shadows and Desi Arnaz sweating and beating a bongo drum while he struts amidst the cheering throng. Rodgers & Hart also came up with a lovely, gentle gem of a song that demonstrates why Hart was one of the best in the business:
Love never went to college.
Ignorant boy, that,
But think of the joy that he starts.
His work requires no knowledge
So he can do it
By using intuitive arts.
He just says, "You two kids
Start falling in love
I ain't got brains
But I reigns over all these parts."
Love never went to college.
Never had teaching
But yet he keeps reaching our hearts!
The lyric is conversational, but note the clever, interior rhymes. The phrase, "I ain't got brains but I reigns over all these parts" is pure Hart...something that seems just amusing at first hearing and then seems perfect at the second, especially when matched with Rodgers lovely melody. It's like a little extra drop of vinegar that makes an already fine dressing superb.
Lucille Ball is a knock-out. Richard Carlson is stalwart and a bit wooden. This was Eddie Bracken's first movie and he's great...especially when he sings his version of "I Didn't Know What Time It Was." Hal LeRoy, like Bracken, is around to provide comic relief. He was a gifted and distinctive dancer. He has one tap segment in the Spic and Spanish number which is extraordinary. He's not only fast, but his knees seem to be double-jointed. Desi Arnaz makes a funny and endearing impression as the guy who is always ready for a game or a dame. Frances Langford, long forgotten by most nowadays, was a pop singer of style and great popularity during the Forties. She does a fine job as the student body president. She does an even finer job singing some of the songs. Ann Miller is there to do her machine-gun taps and precision twirls. And although Van Johnson is unbilled (he's listed on IMDb as Chorus Boy Nr. 41), his one line is vital to Pottawatomie and to the movie. "We won the game, so help me!"
The movie is part of the Lucy & Desi Collection, a three-movie DVD pack. Too Many Girls can be bought separately, easily and legitimately from any number of dealers who have broken the pack down. The DVD transfer is a little soft, but otherwise looks fine. There are a couple of small extras. The first is a short subject featuring an all-woman orchestra, Frances Carroll and the Cocquettes. The second is a Merrie Melodies cartoon that Warner Brothers now thinks requires a warning statement disavowing the ethnic and racial sterotypes the cartoon displays.
For those who enjoy Rodgers & Hart, you might want to find two CDs. The first is "Too Many Girls," the full score of the Broadway show, re-created by Ben Bagley in 1989 and featuring Estelle Parsons, Anthony Perkins, Johnny Desmond and Nancy Alexander. The cast may seem a little eccentric, but they do a superb job capturing the spirit of the show. The second CD is "Fly With Me", a re-creation of a Columbia University varsity show Rodgers, when he was 17, wrote with Hart. Rodgers, among his many talents, could write a powerful college pep song. On this CD, look for "A College on Broadway." It'll have you marching around your house.

I wouldn't have known what this DVD selection was just from reading the description available at Amazon, but being exceptionally curious, and being furthermore motivated by the inexpensive price, I went ahead and bought it to find out just what these "Lost Treasures" were. -They are an assortment of rare Three Stooges clips, shorts, and outtakes from The Three Stooges over the years, including some rare television appearances, the TV pilot that they were in ("Jerks of All Trades"), and a few skits when they appeared as guests in some variety television shows. Not a bad concept, compiling a handful of treasures directly from the vaults, with the result that the public manages to get a sample of certain shorts that hadn't seen the light of day for decades. Anyway, some of these selections were fairly entertaining in your typical Three Stooges sort of way. When the Three Stooges are shown on television, they interact with other guests that happened to be there with them. Some of the clips are unfortunately grainy, and grey or dark, but others are very sharp indeed. I guess you have to be a Three Stooges fan to really get into this DVD, but I still found it enjoyable anyway. I suppose I would have given it a higher mark if I were as obsessed with the Three Stooges as some fans are.
