Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks Review

Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks
Average Reviews:

Dyanne Thorn returns in the storming sequel to "She Wolf", and it seems to have been given a budget boost, as the setting moves to an Arabian oils sheik's kingdom in the middle of the desert, where Ilsa presides over his palace as right hand security guard and keeper of his harem of kidnapped beauties. The film doen't quite match the excesses of the first film in bad taste, and the camp comedy elements have all been increased, but there are still many gruesome scenes as the harem women are abused and tortured for various reasons, including a pretty revolting sub-plot to assasinate the sheik by deploying a bomb placed inside a womans body that will detonate during sex! Uniform fans will be pleased to see Ilsa replendent in her khaki shorts and boots, but she does not have the same prescence as in the previous film because she is herself punished at one point by despotic sheik, and its a shame to see that the film recycles her weakness of falling in love with a hunky American, which once again leads to her downfall. However, this film is still pretty extreme, but with a slant more towards sexual perversions than violence, and without the Nazi theme of it's predecessor its a lot less sleazy and offensive. Still way outside of the mainstream, though (and a hell of a lot better than the third film "Ilsa Tigress of Siberia", which has a cracking first 30 minutes, but disappoints immediately afterwards). A recommended buy for fans of the first movie, as well as one for any cult enthusiast.

Greta - Haus ohne Männer (aka Ilsa, the Wicked Warden) (1979)
Average Reviews:

Ho boy, what to say about this? I admit to viewing this and the original Ilse movie out of curiosity...well, my curiosity has been satisfied. Of the two movies, this one is more everything. It's sexier, it has much more girl/girl doings, and it has longer sickening torture scenes in it. And the gross out ending should satisfy all who enjoy such things. The scary part is the fact that this is clearly meant to be entertainment, and that there are people who will be entertained by it.
I would dearly like to give this a one star rating...goodness knows I'm not likely to be recommending it to anyone. I even hesitate to let anyone know I've seen it. However, I am not one to pass moral judgments. Privately, I feel this movie should never have been made, but I don't have the right to decide what other people are able to see. So, I will allow it three stars, but with the warning to all that this is absolutely a gross out cult film.

I watched this movie after "Laura" and "Bilitis".
It is the weakest of these David Hamilton movies.
I would give "Laura" 6 stars if I could.
"Bilitis" might get 3. This one is lucky to get a 2.

Usually when I get a double-feature exploitation film DVD it is from the wacky folks at Something Weird. That is not the case with this double-dose of 1970's Italian sexploitation films, which was my first sign that whatever might constitute the best of women in prison movies would not be found on this "Women Behind Bars" DVD. On the A side is "Deported Women of the SS Special Section" ("Le Deportate della sezione speciale SS") which offers not just women in prison, but women in a Nazi concentration camp. Not that what you see here looks anything like an actual Nazi concentration camp, but I suppose it is the thought that counts. This 1976 film is written and directed by Rino Di Silvestro ("Werewolf Woman"), who mixes and matches characters and plots to keep our attention beyond the nudity. We start with a train car full of women, who are brought to the concentration camp and inspected by the medical staff. This means they get to be naked, which is obviously a main goal of this film, but what I found interesting is that while a few women were shaved (and I do mean shaved), they were not any of the main characters. Talk about wanting to have your cake and eat it too, but this film periodically wants to be historically accurate. However, the women prisoners are watched over by women guards, and you know what that means in a prison movie. Then again, a room full of female prisoners promises the exact same thing.
Still, there are some interesting things happening in this film on. The male camp commandant, Herr Erner (John Steiner), not only gets a massage from his male orderly, but he wants one of the women prisoners, Tanya (Lina Polito), to love him because he knew her before she was captured. Tanya comes up with an interesting way of getting him that reminds me of a memorable scene in Ingmar Bergman's "Cries & Whispers." Since that film came out four years before this one, I would not be surprised if Silvestro saw it too (yes, I realize we might be the only two people on the earth to have seen both films). As a sexploitation film this one is rather depressing, with appropriately somber music, and a tacit acknowledgment that there is some history behind some of what we are seeing (e.g., the Nazis did force some female prisoners to be prostitutes for German troops). At one point we learn that the Germans are losing the war, but the idea of impending defeat does nothing to stop the atrocities, which I suppose can be seen as making them even worse, a minor accomplishment when you are talking about Nazis. Still, there are several interesting vignettes as Silvestro comes up with plausible vignettes for the sex in this one, although provoking thought would not seem to be an obvious goal for a sexploitation film (3 stars).
The B side offering is "Escape From Women's Prison" ("Le Storie di Sesso di Violenze") and it is from start to finish a boring movie that makes the movie on the A side look like classic cinema. Directed by Giovanni Brusadori, this 1978 has four females escaping from prison, so they are never behind bars, and going on the run. But when their getaway driver gets shot, the escapees take a bus filled of mostly women heading for a tennis tournament hostage. The attempt at an interesting twist is when one of the hostages inspires the prisoners to head for a castle owned by a judge. There the escapees argue about politics and fight with each other, find other uses for the women on the bus besides being hostages, and then negotiate with the police when they show up until we get to what passes as the climax of this film. The part where the judge insists that his personal needs be taken care of caught my interest for a moment, but things do not go well for him and any guy who is minutes away from getting his brains shot out should not be interesting in raping an unconscious women. This judge makes the Nazis look good, and that, of course, is not a good thing. The movie stars Lilli Carati as Monica Hadler, who rants about Communism now and then to suggest that their is actually something political behind the boring sexploitation (2 stars).
If this was a Something Weird DVD, then there would be all sorts of trailers, shorts, and assorted bonus features that would try to make up for the shortcomings of the features, but there is not and for that reason I round down on these two films having split the difference. I do not know if the films suffer from lousy transfers to DVD or if the original prints are this washed out, but then nobody watched sexploitation for the cinematography. If you have never seen a sexploitation film, this is not the DVD to introduce yourself to the genre. If you are into the genre then you should check out "Deported Women of the SS Special Section" and fight the urge to flip the disc and see what is on the other side.

Im fed up! I can't rely on the movie industry to put out a reasonable, (purely)fact-based representation of the Marquis' life!I actually had high hopes for this movie bacause it was said to be based on the true story. SORRY! TRY AGAIN! I was apalled!Bad acting, bad directing, horrible story line, and low budget. Thats not even all of it. When are the creators of movies going to realize that enough happened in his life that its not even nessesary to make things up? Theres no way in [heck] that the things that happen in this movie could have happened, so why proclaim it "based on a true story"? It's clear to me this is not so, and that he is merely a character in a line of events (so distorted and rearanged!) based on a loose description of De Sades' life (with some conveinient changes).I'm sorry, but I thought this movie was atrocious, and I once again wait to see a biographical movie worthy to carry his name.

SS Girls (Widescreen Edition) (2005)

I had a good time with SS GIRLS. It's not bogged down with grim, sordid torture scenes, instead offering a heaping platter of cheesy chuckles served up by a harem of naked Euro-sluts. Some of the badly dubbed dialog is absolutely hysterical. Of particular note is the astonishingly overwrought "performance" - if you can call it that - of Gabriele Carrara as the demented SS officer Schellenberg. Other than running about 10 minutes too long (director Bruno Mattei, who also co-scripted, tacks on a pointless soliloquy by a minor character near the end), SS GIRLS hits all the right Eurotrash notes. There's oodles of female nudity (with some lesbianism and S&M in the mix), a number of scenes in very bad taste (that thankfully don't get TOO revolting), and loads of unintentional humor. Mattei even tosses in a bit of action in the form of a Russian tank attack.

"Up" is so much better than other soft porn movies. It has lots of large, naked breasts and bizarre, creative dialogue and plot. The acting, cinematography, editing and picture quality is all top-notch stuff. However, I'm not sure it is worth the exhorbitant price. If Russ is going to charge 30-40 dollars for his fine films, he could at least spend an hour and a half doing a commentary track.

Texas Lightning (1981) Review

Texas Lightning (1981)

When I heard that one of my favorite B movies from the 80's was coming out on DVD I was happy!! I ordered this DVD from MEDIA BLASTERS / GUILTY PLEASURES (known as RAREFLIX on EBAY) for a reasonable price. After quick delivery I anxiously put the disc in to watch!
Well.... first the good news. The old saying "Better to have something than nothing" is true. The Bad News? To start the source print is less than spectacular. The film is dirty, grainy at times. Multiple splices throughout disc. Full Screen transfer, no widescreen. Extras include 4 trailers from other films. There is a 'promotional' trailer of "Texas Lightning" on disc which is nothing more than the montage of scenes from the film's end made up as a teaser trailer.
Also to squash any rumors that might be floating about regarding the 'MAUREEN MCCORMICK NUDE SCENES', Uh.. They don't exist. At least not in this DVD version. Yes she does have a fling in a motel with one of the central characters but nothing more. I do recommend the VHS tape from MEDIA HOME VIDEO if you can locate it. Their transfer was from a better quality 35mm print. However if you are dying to see this film and do order the DVD, don't say I didn't warn you.

Female Yakuza Tale - Inquisition and Torture (2005) Review

Female Yakuza Tale - Inquisition and Torture (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Directed by seasoned veteran of Japanese exploitation cinema Teruo ISHII, FEMALE YAKUZA TALE - INQUISITION AND TORTURE is the unrelated sequel to SEX AND FURY (also available on amazon), again starring beautiful and very sexy Reiko IKE as tough as nails female gambler Ocho. Set in Kobe ca. 1920, the story with various fractions of yakuza, revenge and double - crossing is a bit too overconvoluted for its own good. To cut a long story short, let`s just say you can expects LOTS of nudity, sex, violence and sleaze. Some examples of what you can expect here: there are some nasty yakuza who force women to smuggle drugs in their private parts (!) As incentive the poor drug addicted gals get their fix injected in their naked breasts (!) In one particularly sleazy scene our heroine is engaged in a card game with mean yakuza mobster Big Tiger, who foolishly accuses her of cheating and insists that Ocho strips naked (!) to prove she did not hide cards. On the condition that he cuts off some of his fingers in time honoured yakuza-tradition, should he be proven wrong, she drops her clothes (in the process clandestinely disposing of an incriminating card). Now it's time of the unfortunate yakuza to cut off his fingers, but his girl comes to his rescue and asks Ocho for a favour "from woman to woman": Making an obscene gesture with her hand, she begs Ocho to spare Big Tiger's middle finger. It's up to the viewer's dirty imagination, why she asks his finger be spared...
The showdown, involving sword- and gunplay, explosions, blood geysirs and about two dozen naked girls (!) is particularly over the top. As if this was not enough there is some downright silly slapstick and funny dialogue ("trashy boss" being my favorite) thrown in for good measure.
When all is said and done, FEMALE YAKUZA TALE - INQUISITION AND TORTURE is surely a pleasureable and entertaining way to spend an evening. The film is well-shot with stunning cinematography. Reiko IKE is great. However, I found the film still a bit disappointing. The story is convoluted and over blown. Personally, I found SEX AND FURY a far better film. Sure, there is more sex and violence in INQUISITION (though there is not a shortage of it in SEX AND FURY either), but SEX AND FURY has a better story and is overall a far more rewarding viewing experience.
Technically the DVD is great. The film is presented in its original widescreen aspect ratio, colours are nice and the print is pristine. There are also several interesting extra features. First of all the excellent trailer. Then there are picture galleries of promotional art and stills from the film. There are also excellently written production notes and bio- and filmographies of director Terou ISHII and star Reiko IKE.

Female Yakuza Tale - Inquisition And Torture is an anarchistic apex in the career of Japanese cult director, Teruo Ishii, whose fifty year resume includes Horror of Malformed Men and Blind Beast Vs. Killer Dwarf. Notoriously lacking restraint, sexy 'pinky violence' star, Reiko Ike, returns in this gonzo sequel to Sex & Fury following the further exploits of Ocho, a thief and gambler running afoul of evil yakuza in Meiji Era Tokyo. Aided by a lone wolf adventurer (Ryohei Uchida), Ocho investigates a ruthless gang of cutthroats who are using indentured prostitutes as drug mules to smuggle heroin from China. Director Ishii throws everything but the kitchen sink into this mind-altering sexploitation action saga, all culminating in a bloody mobster massacre replete with sultry swordswomen. Full of intoxicating mayhem and uproarious kabuki-striptease antics, Female Yakuza Tale - Inquisition & Torture is freak-out filmmaking at its finest! Maid In Sweden (1971) Review

Maid In Sweden (1971)
Average Reviews:

For Christina Lindberg completists, this DVD will certainly fill
a void. Of course, if you've seen any of Miss Christina's other
films from this period, you pretty much know what to expect.
It's another Swedish coming-of-age 'sexual awakening' picture,
so the pace is pretentiously deadly and the acting likewise.
But the real beef I have with the dvd is the transfer. It's
full frame, washed out, and a little dark. You know you're
in trouble when the theatrical trailer (included on this disc)
looks 80% better than the actual feature presentation. However,
there is a major coup here with the 2008 video interview with
the usually low-profile and reclusive Miss Lindberg, who now
has to be pushing sixty at least. Unfortunately, the interviewer
doesn't really know how to coax reminiscences out of her, so she
really doesn't have a whole lot to say about her body of work.
She put me in mind of another famous Swedish actress (Greta Garbo)
from Hollywood's Golden Age who just 'vanted to be left alone'.
Surprisingly, she admits she was only in the movie business for
2-3 years, during which she made over 25 films. Anyway if you're
interested in becoming familiar with Christina Lindberg's work,
I would recommend films like 'Anita' or 'Exposed' - both of which
are now available on dvd as well.

ok, Papaya, Love Goddess of the Cannibals (1978)
Directed by Joe D'Amato (Anthropophagus and Emanuelle in America).
Ever since I herd that this Joe D'Amato classic was coming out into DVD, I was so excited and couldn't wait!! Released a last week on DVD by Severin (Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade). Now Fully Uncut and Uncensored
Me, like most people owned the VSOM version or the X-Rated Cult DVD - That I thought were uncut?
But, when I received my copy of the Joe D'Amato classic.... I was not very happy!!! The DVD cover design/packaging was great - But, c'mon.... the DVD had Not one single special feature besides a Damn trailer that I could go online if I wanted to watch it!!
Could Severin not get Stelvio Cipriani to do an interview? They at least have put the Damn soundtrack from the film as a Bonus Disc, especially since the movie cost almost $30.
Also, the picture quality of the movie doesn't even look like is remastered! I checked out www.severin-films.com and for some odd reason Jess Franco's Devil Hunter and Bloody Moon, that cost only $17.99 (WTF!!) are remastered and are in High Definition and also include MORE then a Damn trailer as a special feature...they both include rare Jess Franco interviews!! I don't understand???
Well, I've wasted enough of my time talking about this Amazing Joe D'Amato classic. It is a Must have for any Italian,Horror,Joe D'Amato fan! I'd wait til the price goes down.

Caligula II - Messalina, Messalina Review

Caligula II - Messalina, Messalina
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This film is not a sequel to the famous Guccione "Caligula" with Malcolm McDowell etc. It is not even a real sequel to the "Caligula" with Laura Gesmer and David Haughton (ASIN: 6303364438), which is released on video and DVD by the same company. The only connection is that they use the same sets! Caligula is not even in this movie!
This film follows the stories of the Emperor Claudius, trying to run the empire while passing gas (on doctor's orders) all the time and hopelessly in love with his wife, the Empress Messalina, who is having sex every man in Rome except her husband, a traveller who has come to rome looking for a good time, and a Roman con-man. There are several funny scenes involving sexual situations, such as the con-man convincing the traveller that a Christian's home is a brothel, and the Empress, disguised as a prostitute, attempting to act out every sexual position illustrated in pictures on the wall ("do them all and it's free...wait, I think you missed one...well, we'll just have to start over..."). It all ends in a comedic bloodbath when Claudius comes home early and finds an orgy in the palace.
For all it's eroticism, this is not a "porno" flick, in that it is not just about sex for sex's sake. It's a sex comedy, where most of the humor involves sex or sexual situations. It is also a historical farce, satirizing the Roman Empire and other Roman Empire movies. It's funny both for the comedy, and for how "bad" this movie is. It is badly dubbed, badly acted and the effects are really cheezy. Not a timeless masterpiece, but somewhat amusing.

Vanessa (1977) Review

Vanessa (1977)
Average Reviews:

This is a German take on the classic Emmanuelle. An Austrian convent schoolgirl inherits her uncle's string of brothels in the Far East. She flies off to Hong Kong to experience the naughty Orient. She is introduced to sex (what else) in all its forms, straight, lesbian, and forced - She finds a particular attraction in the latter - probably all those bare-bottomed spankings at the convent. Sex scenes here are of the very softcore variety (The whipping scenes are limp, lame and some of the least convincing around - good for a laugh though). Olivia Pascal is absolutely lovely as are two of the other ladies but the rest of the cast far less so. The Chinese women in particular were sadly wholly unattractive. Hong Kong is full of pretty Chinese girls so it's a wonder how they ended up with this sorry lot. Director Hubert Frank himself admits that they were "ugly" - his reminiscence about how he found them at the local strip-club is funny - they looked good when he hired them in the dark, but he got the shock of his life when he saw them again in the clear light of day. Acting quality is par for course in a softcore flick - fairly mediocre. As mildly amusing erotica, it's a pleasant enough way to spend the evening. Just sample the corny scene featuring the opening notes of Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (the famous music from 2001) as Jackie the blonde woman slowly opens her thighs to the entranced Prince Bandar. Couldn't stop laughing. Or witness Bandar's skills in psychic sex - and especially his ability to induce telepathic orgasms. Plus it's nice to see pretty women with natural body hair for a change - this film was made before the hairless barbie-doll revolution swept the world.
The transfer from Severin is rather disappointing. It's presented in 1.78:1 widescreen (anamorphic). It's acceptable but a full notch below Severin at its best. The print shows its age. Although it's been cleaned up, there are quite a few instances of print damage which are left uncorrected, some glaringly obvious. The print overall is dark and lacking in definition. It is soft, sometimes, blurry, although that is partly due to the photography. It is grainy. The colours are dull and quite lifeless - flat. Hong Kong never looked duller than here. But the picture in and of itself is quite watchable. What I did not like was the removal of the original German soundtrack. We are instead given a very badly dubbed English audio track with everybody sounding faintly American. I get very irritated by dubbing, especially when it's badly done. I would have loved to hear Olivia speaking in her own voice but alas no. The credits are all in German. The main Extra is a half-hour interview with Director and DP; all in German with obligatory English subtitles (burnt in). There is a 15-minute long wordless "Making of" featurette plus the original theatrical trailer. Worth a rental. Buy only if you're a die-hard fan of the lovely Olivia Pascal.

This is a great "B" movie. I rated it a 5, which i don't ever hand out to "B" movies, but as far as they go, this is one of the greatest. Obviously it can't compare with greats like BraveHeart and such, but you have to know what you're getting into before watching this.
I believe there are 4 Death Stalker movies. 1 and 4 try to be "serious", kind of like Conan rip-offs.... not real great. 2 and 3 go the more "humorous" route, with 3 failing pretty badly.
But Death Stalker 2 is GREAT! Adventure, comedy, action, slashing, and for those that like beautiful women in their movies, Monique Gabrielle doesn't disappoint!
Be ready for a cheesy movie, but it's fun cheesy! Lots of great (and bad) one-liners throughout. :)

I remember that when this film played in theatres here way back when, the newspaper ads included the proviso that, due to the explicit nature of the film, photography was strictly prohibited. "Who's going to take photos of a movie?," I thought. I figured it was just a gimmick to play up the sex in the film. I also imagined that Ursula Andress' career must have really gone downhill to have participated in a trashy quasi-porn film like this. Having recently watched the DVD, I can say that I was right about the amount of skin seen in the film (especially by '70s standards). The nice booklet that No Shame Films provides with the DVD also explains that Andress was no longer on the A-list of actors as she had been. What I was wrong about was the film itself, as it turns out that it's quite enjoyable and fun to watch!
Leonida, the patriarch of the Bottacin family of wine producers, is in a bad way. He's just had a heart attack while in bed with the local gravedigger's wife - and his family couldn't be happier. Nieces Jole and Italia, nephew Gustavo and (especially) Italia's husband Benito can't wait for the old man to kick the bucket so they can make a deal with American gangster Mr. Kitch to go international. The trouble is that Leonida won't go so quickly, so Benito hires Anna, his sexy former nurse (and bed mate) to quicken the old boy's pulse and cause a second, fatal heart attack. Add in Jole's son Adone (the only relative who wants the old man to live), Giovanni (the frequently drunk servant) and Tosca (whose services to the family go well beyond cleaning and cooking) and you've got the makings of lots of mayhem.
Besides Andress (whose scenes include a nice nude swim), the cast is lead by Duilio Del Prete, doing a lot of physical comedy in his role of Benito. One of the highlights is when he tries to show Anna the 'proper' way of caring for Leonida to do him in - to which she replies that he may die laughing. Mario Pisu is funny as Leonida (especially in his final scenes), Carla Romanelli is quite delightful as Tosca, while former Bond girl Luciana Paluzzi ("Thunderball") joins in the racy goings-on with a topless scene. Jack Palance also has a few short scenes as Mr. Kitch - and it's rather evident that he enjoyed himself in the process!
The picture quality on DVD is good, enhanced for widescreen sets and filling the screen. The video box says that the proper aspect ratio is 1.66:1, which would mean that a bit had to be trimmed from the top and bottom to fill the screen, but I couldn't notice anything missing. There are two soundtracks, Italian and English, and I chose to listen to the Italian with the optional English subtitles. Though the subtitles are easy to read, I found myself going back a few times to re-read them as some went by too fast - a small price to pay, as I always prefer the original language to get the proper feel of the film. The DVD also includes interviews with director Nello Rossati and his brother Tony, the costume designer; the trailer; a poster and still photo gallery; and an informative 8 page booklet (the norm for No Shame releases) which is such a rarity these days.
As that booklet states, " 'The Sensuous Nurse' will never be mistaken for a remarkable film but it does have its charms." I wholeheartedly agree. While it's not a classic by Fellini or Antonioni, the film is a lot of fun, with enough laughs and amusements to bring a smile to your face.
