This product (the one with the central photo of a man and two women on a light blue background) is a complete rip-off. The DVD quality is so poor it is almost unwatchable. It is not anamorphic widescreen, so the image is very small on your screen. Do not buy this lemon (it may even be censored).

Jungle Girls Pack (Golden Temple Amazons / Amazonia / Diamonds of Kilimandjaro) Review

Jungle Girls Pack (Golden Temple Amazons / Amazonia / Diamonds of Kilimandjaro)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With Shriek Show, connoisoeurs of eurotrash know its best to wait, because quite frankly, few of the titles in their catalogue are worth the single-disc asking price! BUT, as with their Post Apocalyptic Action Triple Feature Pack, their Psycho Killers Triple Feature Pack, their Jungle Horror Triple Feature Pack, their Martial Arts Triple Feature Pack and their Evil Animals Triple Feature Pack, their Zombie Triple Feature Pack, their Wicked Women Triple Feature Pack, and their Demons Triple Feature Pack, this newest edition, the JUNGLE GIRLS TRIPLE FEATURE PACK provides a cheap fix for those who absolutely must see some of the worst euro-junk from the 80's. And at about $6 a disc, these pieces of crap are finally WORTH the money, though you'll pay far less in certain retail chain stores. I found it for $12.99, which further justified a peek.
Up first is GOLDEN TEMPLE AMAZONS, a deathly dull Jess Franco piece filled to the brim with topless women who remain topless throughout to distract you from the utter bankruptcy of ingenuity and awfulness of the story, about a young topless jungle girl, raised by a black tribe, who grows up to take revenge on the nearby tribe of topless evil amazons who killed her parents when she was young. Coming as is did at a time when Franco movies had long since stopped being even remotely interesting (and trust me, most of this man's work isn't even remotely interesting, save for perhaps WANDA THE WICKED WARDEN), the whole thing feels like one lazy grab for what few dollars remained in the exploitation market at the time before being dumped internationally on video under any number of the usual retitlings. In fact, much of the film was directed by a Eurocine journeyman and it was largely edited by company men as well. Eva Leon proves she's still got it, at least from the neck down, as the leader of the Golden Temple Amazons, her wardobe consisting of an eyepatch, a vest and a teensy tiny g-string as she whips her minions and our heroine with gusto. The golden temple "set," such as it is (and probably the centrepiece of most of the scenes actually shot by Franco), is really just a cave with foreground miniatures of "golden" pillars and friggin' BIRDCAGE bars feebly tyring to telegraph some kind of scale. Oh, screw it, let's move on to...
AMAZONIA: THE CATHERINE MILLS STORY (aka Schiave Bianche: Violenza in Amazzonia). Probably the best of the bad bunch in this set, if only for the participation of famed mondo pioneer Franco Prosperi (Mondo Cane, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Africa Addios) who seems to have had an influence on director Mario Garrizzo, who directs this largely in the pseudo-documentary style of Prosperi and Jacopetti's earlier works. Hell, most of the cutaways in this (the shots of beautiful scenery and animals killing each other) look suspiciously like they were shot by the Mondo giants, for they frequently don't match the footage of the main story, . The rather haunting score feels familiar, too. That story, such as it is, is told in flashback by virginal schoolgirl Catherine Miles (Elvire Audray), on trial for the murder of two people. Turns out her parents were killed by a ruthless tribe (she says) during a picnic boat trip down the Amazon. Rescued by the benevolent lead hunter of the tribe, which is the typically nonsensical mix of Spaniards and Asians that seems to crop up in all of these damned things, she gradually learns their ways, and watches their graphic rituals, and spends virtually the entire film topless, and falls in love with her new guardian, all the while nurturing her plan for revenge against him and his people. The revelation of the killers' identities would have been a surprise had they not diappeared from the narrative DURING the crucial murder sequence because the filmmakers couldn't figure out a smart way to temporarily divert the audience's attention away from them, so they just vanish until the end of the film. Dialogue in this is minimal, and comes largely from the courtroom framing sequence, while the presence of a Mondo-style narrator at the beginning and end of the film (where we're supposedly shown footage of the "actual" Catherine Miles in jail, is another nod to Prosperi's roots.
Finally, we have DIAMONDS OF KILIMANDJARO, another slog through the jungle from Jess Franco starring Katia Bienert (EUGENIE) as the white jungle goddess sought out by a crew of hunters and relatives working for her mother, Franco regular Lina Romay doesn't just PLAY a bloated bedridden mess in this, but was actually starting to LOOK like one in real life, and she was only 29! But even in her brief scenes, she fares better than Bienert, who looks positively STONED--or stupid--throughout, swinging topless from vines she barely has the strength to hold on to. One would never believe that this stick of wood had been "acting" for three or four years by the time this came out! Her enemy in this is topless Black Jungle Goddess Aline Mess, a feral stunner who has planted Katia's WHITE, SCOTTISH uncle (complete with tam o'shanter hat and bagpipe theme music) on the tribal throne as part of her cunning plan to take revenge on the evil white men who have threatened her people. Relatively bloodless, but generous in the boobies department, but since it's a mid-80's Franco, everything is shot so matter-of-factly, and without one hint of sensuality, that you just stop carring after the second pair are paraded across the screen.
Extras on these discs are the photo galleries (on all three discs), original trailers for each film, plus several others (again, all three discs) and interviews with Eurocine honcho Daniel Lasouer (on GOLDEN TEMPLE and DIAMONDS, each about 12 minutes), both of which prove to be more enlightening--and more interesting--than either of the films they accompany.

Bikini Girls From the Lost Planet (2006) Review

Bikini Girls From the Lost Planet (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Oh boy! Another bikini movie from Retromedia. And it's a good one. It reuses a classic B movie plot that never gets old. A planet populated entirely with women sends two cute, scantily clad girls to Earth to find virile men that can be brought back and used to insure the survival of their race.
There are seven sex scenes. Four are boy/girl. One is girl/girl. One is boy/girl/girl/girl. And one is boy/girl/boy/girl. The women are all hot and include veteran bikini girls Nicole Sheridan and Beverly Lynn, as well as some new faces: Christine Nguyen, Syren, Michelle Lay, and Rebecca Love. All the women do a great job during their sex scenes. Unfortunately, Rebecca doesn't have a sex scene is this movie, she just stands around topless.
Extras include some bloopers and trailers for other Retromedia bikini movies.
I recommend this one.

"Blood Scarab" is a really terrific homage to classic monster movies and vampire films! It is definitely the best film famous cult movie director Don Glut ("Dinosaur Valley Girls") has made to date! Lots of creature feature action, awesome FX make-ups, tons of vampire girls. . . . . with tasteful, erotic, full nudity. . . .and some surprisingly good CGI for a low-budget horror film. The actors all do a great job, especially Monique Parent and Natasha Diakova.

I am a big fan of Kiefer and I always wonder why he's in (usually) crappy movies. This is a nice change of pace for him since his character doesn't carry a gun or work for the government. Everything is well done in this move, the settings are great and the acting is done well. It would have been nice to have some extras on this DVD, but I guess somebody was too cheap for that. Oh well. Still a good movie.

Silip: Daughters of Eve (2007) Review

Silip: Daughters of Eve (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The movie opens with one of the major characters, Simon Kalabaw (played by Mark Joseph), clobbering a buffalo over the head with a poleax in the presence of distressed, crying children. The butcher pounds away until the animal collapses, slits its throat, eviscerates it, and decapitates it.
After this extremely disturbing scene, the movie unfolds to portray the lives of several people in a small Philippine village, played by a cast of talented actors. Tonya, played by Maria Isabel Lopez, is a chaste woman and a fill-in for the town's ill Catholic priest; she is the substitute "teacher" who inculcates in her pupils abstinence and purity, and who warns the girls of the dangers of yielding to their sexual desires for men, whom she calls devils. Selda (Sarsi Emmanuelle) is her antithesis, a woman who relishes and indulges in carnal pleasures. Simon, the icon of masculinity, is revered by Selda; by his girlfriend (Myra Manibog), who can't tame his waywardness; and by Tonya herself, who struggles to repress her desire for him because of her religious beliefs. Even Pia (Pia Zabale), a girl of about twelve, is obsessed with Simon.
Silip is filled to the brim with nudity and simulated (though convincingly realistic and highly erotic) sex; both Maria Isabel's and Sarsi's graceful feminine forms are a delight to behold. The violence in the movie is fierce and visceral, requiring a strong stomach on the part of the viewer.
But the movie does more than aim for cheap, exploitative thrills. It effectively underscores how the church pointlessly exerts too much effort on condemning sex instead of addressing far more important realities such as the selfishness, cruelty, and barbarousness inherent in humanity. Few are exempt from committing atrocities in this film.
The cinematography is excellent, the camera adeptly conveying the arid, barren quality of the sandy settings as well as a quiet, voyeuristic feel in many of the scenes. The widescreen picture is surprisingly good. Colors are realistic though somewhat soft, and detail is impressive for an aged film that has clearly degraded with time--as dust, specks, and scratches will confirm. However, these flaws are not significantly distracting. What is a little more intrusive are a pair of fixed cloudy spots in a few scenes and a dark-blue cast in a couple of scenes that appear to take place in the daytime. Fortunately these instances are brief. The two-channel sound is clear and unexceptional. Audio options include Tagalog with English subtitles and English dubbed. The latter is not at all worth considering.
There is a second disc with extras that include the following:
An essay titled "Silip and Filipino Bold Cinema"
An interview with the film director, Elwood Perez
An interview with the still lovely Maria Isabel Lopez
An interview with the art director, Alberto Santos
Cast and crew biographies
Mondo Macabro movie trailers
In short, this is a unique, well-shot film with intensely erotic moments and truly disturbing violence. It makes a clear statement about the dark side of the human soul and stays with the viewer well after it is over.

In the tradition of Japanese "Pink" cinema comes this shocking, violent and sex-filled movie that caused an outrage when it was screened at the Chicago Film Festival.Starring the former Miss Philippines, the stunning Maria Isabel Lopez (in her most revealing role ever), SILIP - DAUGHTERS OF EVE is an eye-opening example of raw and savage filmmaking from one of the Philippines' most innovative directors, Elwood Perez. Set in the beautiful and remote countryside of Ilongo, the story tells of three young women and their struggle to come to terms with their own sexuality against a background of religious oppression and male brutality.Mondo Macabro is pleased to present a 2-disc edition of one of the most extraordinary movies ever released on DVD.SILIP - DAUGHTERS OF EVE has been a well-kept secret amongst collectors of arcane and extreme films, talked about in awed tones but rarely seen... until now!Presented completely uncut and uncensored, SILIP - DAUGHTERS OF EVE is the ultimate cult movie and guaranteed not to disappoint.

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful: They're Wanted (2004) Review

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful: They're Wanted (2004)
Average Reviews:

Another good, sexy, fun softcore romp from Retromedia. Nicole Sheridan and Beverly Lynne end up inheriting an old, western ghost town. But there's an evil landowner nearby who wants to scare her into selling it so that he can get his hands on its legendary lost silver mine. But the ghost of Calamity Kate helps fend him off.
Throughout this little adventure, we get six sex scenes. Four are boy/girl, one is girl/girl, and one is girl/girl/girl. The first four were excellent, the final two were okay, but could have been better. The lesbian three way should have been the highlight of the video, but it was one of the weaker scenes. Nicole was in four of the scenes, so this is a really good video for fans of her. Beverly is in two scenes. There were two other girls who were in the girl/girl scene, and they did a great job. Belinda Gavin (aka, Kylie Wyote) is also present, and is in one scene.
The other movie on the DVD, Bikini Academy, is barely worth mentioning. I sped through it on fast forward, and it looked really bad, with very little nudity and one very weak sex scene.
However, if you've enjoyed past Retromedia releases, or want something that gives you a lot of Nicole Sheridan, this is an easy recommendation.

Girl in Captivity: Hitwoman in Chains 2 (2009)

This isn`t a sub-standard entry in the genre, not by any means, it`s just more of the same, and after viewing as many of these films as I have in my lifetime, I`m always hoping for a new twist or something more, and therein lies my lackluster afterthoughts. With these flix, plot is immaterial, only the self-delusional claim to purchase them for any other reason, these are promoted as 'Cinema Erotique' so we`re evaluating it`s exploitative value, not its cinematic one. The lead actress is fairly plain but looks great in a latex S+M outfit and naked in chains, and the only other woman in the film, a femme fatale, is sexier and has that "love you long time" sleaziness about her, and I mean that as praise. The story is similiar to all of the 'Zero Woman' series, nothing unfamiliar again, but on the plus side, there is ample nudity and a perversity that elevates it somewhat. If I wasn`t so friggin' jaded, I`d give it 4 stars (and it probably deserves it as exploitation) but I personally think these flix were done better in the 70`s than they are today. There was more to them then, an indefinable something that makes folks continue to remake them incessantly, but with shoddier results...

Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch Review

Totally Nude Warm-Up and Stretch
Average Reviews:

Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch is fifty-five minutes long and was released on March 8, 2010. Most of the ladies in this video are porn stars and not professional instructors. The first six minutes of the video is the introduction of the ladies and after that the routine begins. With the exception of Tatum Pierce and Rebecca Blue, all the other ladies are totally nude. Tatum and Rebecca work out together on the DVD and Tatum wears black and pink socks and a black work-out bra and not shorts. Rebecca on the other hand wears black short shorts and nothing else. The video is hard to follow along to and there is no instruction. Only the ones that I put an asterisk next to are the ones that I felt a person could follow along to. There is no oral instruction what so ever and at times you would need some work-out props. Also not included in the DVD is a Scene Selection menu; so if you wanted to try some of the stretches and not watch the whole video. One other thing to note is the camera operator. The person operating the camera was not that great. A third of the workouts were close-up of the ladies and that made it impossible to see the workout. So unless your idea of a work-out is to sweat watching nude ladies warm-up and stretch, then go ahead and buy. Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch gets a D.

Totally Nude Pilates Workout is fifty-five minutes and is included with the Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch DVD. Totally Nude Pilates Workout includes four of the ladies from Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch DVD. Totally Nude Pilates Workout is totally useless. For a good forty-five minutes of the DVD you will need a Pilates Exercise Machine and if you don't own then you are going have to go out and buy one. Only about ten minutes was a mat workout. The camera operator did better job this time around then that person did in Totally Nude Warm-Up & Stretch. This is an entertainment only DVD.

Totally Nude Yoga & Tai Chi (2002) Review

Totally Nude Yoga and Tai Chi (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Only slightly more exciting than "virtual fireplace". Seriously bad, horrible, annoying transition effects - the screen goes to blinging white every thirty seconds, horrible lighting - you just don't use red gels for a relaxing yoga scene - and nearly zero action. the "advanced weapons" portions of the tai chi was outright laughable...a bunch of strippers posing clumsily with obvious prop weapons...
The girls are well-built, any one of them could place in a miss trailer park pageant, but not one of them knows what she is doing or even looks asian for that matter. A few of them are sporting dragon tatoos, if that counts for anything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those martial arts purists (I've alway felt that self defense is best learned by barfighting) but even I was insulted by the performances.
I bought this DVD because I have an enormous TV I never use and wanted something to run constantly and in the background. I figured naked women was more interesting than fish, but this DVD challenges that theory. Even if you aren't looking at it, the lighting and transition effects create an uncomfortable atmosphere in the room. Everybody involved with this DVD (except the models) should be shot.
It fails for atmosphere, fails for vouyerism (get totally nude aerobics instead), fails as instructional material and fails as performance art. Just a waste of time and money.

Lady Ninja Kasumi, Vol. 1 (2005) Review

Lady Ninja Kasumi, Vol. 1 (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Take a look at the box cover. That is pretty much all you really need to know about "Lady Ninja Kasumi" ("Sanada Kunoichi Ninpo-den: Kasumi") and whether or not it is the kind of thing you are interested in. It is exactly what you are expecting, a B-movie Pink Film with a lady ninja-theme. The company that puts out this series is called Junk Films, and they have produced such other classics as "Death Penalty Female Prisoner Saori". And there you have it.
Oh, there is a story. Poor Kasumi and her little brother are orphaned, but taken in by a local warlord. Kasumi joins the kunoichi, the lady ninjas, in order to work and protect her little bother. There are some spies and intrigues, and some entirely unspectacular fight scenes. The costumes are nice, but the whole thing has a feel of being shot on digital video, and you know that this is not a high-budget production. The film is based on an erotic manga series, but I have never read that so don't know how well it holds up. Director Hiroyuki Kawasaki normally makes anime flicks like "Mouse" and "Sakura Wars", so this may have been his first time with live actors.
But if you are getting this, you are really getting it for the lovely Yonmi, not for the story. She looks great in her ninja costumes, and is appropriately bouncy for the genre. Being a Pink Film, the nudity is strictly T&A the three sex scenes are of the softcore variety. Not anywhere near a great film, but then you weren't expecting that. For what it is, it does a good job. The girls are pretty, the plot is decent, and there are far worse entries in the genre.

Playboy / No Boys Allowed 3 (2005) Review

Playboy / No Boys Allowed 3 (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For intimate movies, I usually prefer something a bit more explicit - especially if I'm watching with my husband. But when I'm alone, I'll often times choose something more sensuous, like Playboy. And when the topic is girls-together, such as in this video - so much the better!
In Playboy's higher-quality releases, like `No Boys Allowed 3,' the photography and music are superb, the girls are always gorgeous, and the storyline is totally mindless - which allows the sexiness of the cute babes to really shine through!
I've always enjoyed Playboy's girl/girl videos (such as the `Girlfriends' and `Roommates' series before this one) for a couple of reasons. First, they remind me of my own discovery of the genre, also with Playboy. And second, they recall for me some of the most playfully seductive moments I've tasted in my own women-only encounters.
For those of you discovering the eroticism of girls together for the very first time, the lack of explicitness might actually make the topic less threatening. And even though some might think that the girls are TOO beautiful - I found the ladies' pretty make-up and well-coifed hair - only helped to reassure me of each woman's underlying heterosexuality! (There are no manly women here, thank goodness!)
The movie has thirteen vignettes, with (at least) four that are worth mentioning:
The opening scene features two beautiful (and buxom) blondes, both former Playmates of the Month, showering each other with numerous bottles of champagne. The fun comes from watching all of the places that get wet. And, in Playboy's inimitable style - the camera pans up and down each woman's body as she's drenched - to provide us with tantalizing views both front and rear! Also, given the undeniable hooters on these two babes, the best views obviously - are the close-ups of their chests! This scene is a great warm-up in helping us to get comfortable viewing - and enjoying - the images of really gorgeous women frolicking naked together.
The next vignette, which is easily the sexiest in the movie, features three Vivid (studio) supermodels of porn; Janine, who literally defined girl/girl videos in the `90's; Raylene, who has the deepest, most romantic eyes you'll ever see on any woman in adult videos; and Devon, a cute beach blonde with a little girl's face, but not a little girl's figure. The scene is shot tone-on-tone in a sumptuous Egyptian-style setting. Raylene and Devon strip for Janine in order to seduce her, but Janine sheds her clothes just as quickly to keep up.
The camera spends as much time on each girl's gorgeous face - as it does on her sexiest parts. The most memorable imagery for me comes early - when each girl hooks her thumbs under the waistband of her undies - to liberate herself from her last remaining garment; Raylene from the front, and Devon and Janine from behind. In Playboy fashion, the camera is certain to capture that special moment - when the most private portion of their lacey knickers release from their molten centers, which for me is very sexy -- since this is the event from my own experiences that marks the turning point - when a shared encounter turns sexual!
The kissing amongst the women is only brief, with Devon and Raylene sharing the longest. There are some satisfying frontal views of each girl, but always from a distance. The scene's action teases and reveals - rather than building towards a conclusion. But as a feast for the eyes, the unrestricted beauty of these three women -- is more than satisfying!
There's a fun scene where two friends spend an afternoon licking melted ice cream off of each other's skin. This vignette is a repeat from an earlier Playboy video -- but it still seems fresh and invigorating nonetheless. There's a nice close-up of two pairs of lips eating ice cream from a spoon (as though the girls were both kissing). And the liquidy desert, as it drips and runs - has more than just a passing resemblance to a man's fresh semen. The blonde in this encounter is really cute, and the camera thankfully uses her to give us the most intimate views. Her friend, fortunately, is also the giver -- and the vignette ends with a slow motion view of the blonde's gorgeous face - as she throws her head back in climax!
In a very refreshing scene (and the last one worth highlighting), three friends in an old mining town (don't ask me why they're there) get naked - when a water truck comes by to douse them! The invigorating spray is the only thing covering their nude bodies. And their glistening forms with completely drenched hair are just what you'd see - if you ever joined them in the shower -- or if you were a fly-on-the-wall of a woman's locker room! (Or both!)
To conclude, if you'd like your girl/girl - with just a bit more left to the imagination - then you'll probably find Playboy's `No Boys Allowed 3' to be quite satisfying. The visual imagery is second-to-none! (Guys, you might be pleasantly surprised -- by how much your girlfriend may like it! And vice-versa.) Enjoy.

One scene is right out of Death Proof,When Stuntman Mike introduces himself to his future victims.
You know Quentin Tarantino would like this film,Except for the lack of cameos.
This Jason Impey film is almost an Urban Legend,Many versions exist due to censors questioning and Maxim Media has released this one.
So film is a flashback,grindhouse...Zombie subplot..That about covers it

If you are looking for best screenplay candidates, thisprobably isn't it. If you are looking for hot, soft core sex withattractive actresses, this is probably more up your alley. Judy Thompson is gorgeous and seems more believable in her sex scenes than pretty much any other actress I've ever seen on Cinemax. Great sex, gorgeous actresses, a couple of great lesbian/threesome scenes, just enough plot to get from one sex scene to the next without dragging on or seeming forced.

SS GIRLS (1977), a SALON KITTY knockoff from the feeble mind of Bruno Mattei, is set in a secluded mansion wherein a crazy and debauched Nazi commander (Gabriele Carrara) employs prostitutes--each highly trained in ballet, weightlifting, fencing, gunplay and schtupping the spectrum of physically disgusting men--to lure unsuspecting Nazi traitors to their doom. The nudity quotient is high but the sex scenes, not unlike most of the male participants involved in them, are flabby, unrealistic and repetitive. And then there's some unpleasant business between a whore and a severely deformed man that, had this not been directed by one of the worst Italian directors of all time, would surely have engendered ill will. But with Mattei, it's tough not to have anything BUT ill will toward virtually everything he's ever done, so I suppose exploitation of the diseased should come as no surprise. The film is by design rather low on the torture and "cruelty" one associates with this genre, with even the mass suicide ending--which at last releases us from the company of these ridiculously smarmy actors--almost completely devoid of blood. In an interview included on the disc, Mattei reveals that he hates watching nearly all of his own films because he always sees many things he could have done better with more time and money. One would think that a director who worked extensively (and repeatedly) on low budgets and tight schedules would certainly not hurt for ingenuity, or style, as often as Mattei has, but such was not the case, if his long, depressing trail of visually ugly and sloppily plotted exploitationers is any indication.
Moving up a rung on the ladder of quality--arguably a lateral step, really, as the production value isn't much better--is Sergio Garrone's SS EXPERIMENT LOVE CAMP (1976), a once-notorious "video nasty" in England which features more full frontal nudity and butcher-meat-laced cruelty than the Mattei picture, though the romantic couplings are again rather uninvolving despite their showcasing far more attractive performers of both sexes. In this camp, ladies not chosen to improve the German race through ridiculous sex experiments are instead deemed fit for ridiculous medical experiments. (Garrone was known to do research for his films, so in all likelihood his onscreen experiments also happened in real life, and were equally as pointless) The film's key plot device--and arguably it's wildest asset--involves the camp commandant's desire for a new pair of testicles with which he can get a proper leg over for Der Fuhrer's greater glory, items duly (and seemingly unwittingly) removed from one of his officers. When good guy Helmut discovers he's a nut-free by-product of the Nazi machine just before mounting his love camp lovely, he races naked throughout the compound until he finds the duplicitous Colonel von Kleiben (Giorgio Cerioni, who looks very much like one of the puppets on Gerry Anderson's THUNDERBIRDS), furiously demanding to know "what have you been doing with my balls!?!" before inciting an all-out riot. Still, it's decidedly a case of parts surpassing the whole, as it tends to be with Nazi pictures that don't star Dyanne Thorne in a lead role.
The set concludes with Sergio Garrone's SS CAMP: WOMEN'S HELL, actually known as (and ID'd onscreen as) SS CAMP 5: WOMEN'S HELL. Exploitation Digital's sleeve for this dates it to 1977, though it's obvious Garrone shot it at the same time as SS EXPERIMENT LOVE CAMP using the same locations and most of the same cast in different roles. Garrone admits as much in the accompanying interview, and the comparatively stronger plotting, acting and action elements on offer suggest this was actually the first of the two pictures completed. Thanks to its meatier scenes of torture and medical experimentation, WOMEN'S HELL ventures closer to being a "video nasty" than LOVE CAMP, but then as now, it's tame stuff, notable mainly for introducing a Pam Grier blaxploitation vibe in the form of Rita Manna as the cunning Jamaican whore Alina, who takes advantage of besotted camp commandant Col. Strasser (Giorgio Cerioni, again sporting a THUNDERBIRDS coiffure and the plastic complexion to match) to plot the bullet-riddled liberation of her fellow prostitutes. Again, Garrone's superficial research informs the film's scenes of cruelty and degradation--including a cheap-but-effective optical that allows dead bodies to jerk and twitch in the camp's ovens (a trick used several times in LOVE CAMP as well)--but the vintage newsreel footage of actual Jews being stripped of their belongings and their lives sits uncomfortably amidst all the gratuitous boobs and beaver on display. But this was Italy in the 70's: "anything goes" was the cinematic order of the day, but cheap moralizing in a film such as this is offensive.
Thankfully, this thematically-challenged genre wasted away on the merits of films such as those included in this set. They're worth watching if you're new to the genre and want to see three average examples at a budget price rather than getting burned on the individual releases (which each cost nearly as much as this triple feature), but there are better examples out there, most notably ILSA: SHE WOLF OF THE SS. Extras on each disc include an interview with the respective director (running 10-15 minutes), meager still galleries, and selections of trailers, including some for other Nazisploitation titles.

Irreversible (2002) Review

Irreversible (2002)

After witnessing the nightmare of Gaspar Noe's "I Stand Alone," a movie that left me in open-mouthed awe for days afterwards, I just knew I had to see "Irreversible." I am not a big foreign film aficionado, not by a long shot, but Noe's films are worth watching simply because they are deeply disturbing jaunts into the darkest recesses of the human psyche. He's not above showing life as it really is, and he does it in ways that make you laugh at the cleverness of the presentation even as you cringe in disgust at the subject matter. In other words, his pictures are right up my alley. I always love to watch cinema that challenges the viewer on some level, something rare indeed in an age of the American special effects laden summer blockbusters. That doesn't necessarily mean I always like these types of films; oftentimes I don't when the fine line between challenging and pretentiousness is crossed, but Noe's stuff is great because it is premium grade weirdness. "Irreversible" will remind many viewers of the American film "Memento," except Noe's film is darker, oh so much darker, than that movie.
"Irreversible" flows backwards, with the closing credits opening the film and each scene shown from the end towards the beginning. Right from the start, you know you're going to see something different. Boy, are you ever! A sex club with fleeting sounds and images of pornographic behaviors, a sickening scene of a human head being bashed in with a fire extinguisher, and an arrest quickly start you wondering about what it all means. As the film progresses (regresses?), we learn why one man killed another in that seedy bar. Alex (Monica Bellucci), a rather carefree soul, was brutally raped and beaten by a thuggish French pimp in a subway tunnel. Her boyfriend Marcus (Vincent Cassel) promptly had an emotional meltdown when he discovered what happened to his lovely woman. Full of seething rage, he goes on a rampage through the city looking for the man who maimed Alex. Along for the ride is Pierre (Albert Dupontel), Alex's former boyfriend who desperately attempts to rein in Marcus's reckless quest for vengeance.
Surprises abound in "Irreversible," surprises that will leave you thinking about the film long after it ends. I was a little amazed I figured out how the film concludes (begins, actually) long before I got there. You just knew there had to be some big, explosive revelation that would give Alex's victimization even more pathos. Well, there is and it's quite shocking. In fact, it would have worked almost as well had the film been shown in chronological order. Since Noe chose to reverse the sequence of the scenes, he not only retains the film's shock value but also imbues it with a frequently recurring sense of "what if." If only Marcus had paid more attention to his wife at that party. If only Alex had listened to Pierre and not gone out alone in a dangerous neighborhood. If only, if only, if only. You get the idea. This sense of identification gives the movie its edge. We've all done the same thing, asked the same questions, after a personal tragedy. I know I have.
What shocks even more are the things Gaspar Noe can get away with showing in a French film. The French have little problem with overt pornography, morally repugnant violence, and lengthy discussions on the most intimate details of sexual relationships. Sure, American films are violent and sometimes crass in their discussions of sex, but not like the French films I have seen lately. I can't imagine any mainstream film made here that would show a rape sequence that runs for nearly ten minutes, or the weird goings on in a club. If you have a serious problem with any of these issues, stay far, FAR away from "Irreversible." For that matter, stay just as far away from Noe's "I Stand Alone," a movie that shows in gruesome detail a murder/suicide. I will say that the filmmaker does not in anyway attempt to glorify the vicious acts of cruelty and barbarism he depicts in his movies. That doesn't mean it makes these incidents any easier to watch, however.
"Irreversible" is a shocker on many levels, a film not suited to a majority of the movie going public. It's not the sort of movie you would take a date to, or watch with members of your family unless you're a member of the Manson family. It should go without saying that Noe's picture is not suitable for young children. I recommend watching "Irreversible" alone so that it becomes a personal experience. I don't know what Gaspar Noe will come out with next, or if he'll ever make another film again, but I want to see it whatever it ends up being. If you haven't seen "I Stand Alone" before watching this one, make sure you see it soon. Fans of this type of cinema should also check out "Baise-Moi," another French film filled with even greater amounts of nihilism and despair than this one.

Alex and Marcus are a couple whose story is told over the course of a fateful evening in a series of long takes.
