Pingu: Pingu's South Pole Adventures (2010) Review

Pingu: Pingu's South Pole Adventures (2010)

I was excited to find the Pingu DVDs, including this one, on Amazon. My sons adore Pingu and were bummed every time we used up all our free Netflix minutes watching Meet Pingu and Pingu on Thin Ice over and over again. This collection is still good, stories are still funny, characters and animation fun to watch and my 3 and 5 year boys love it. But it somehow lacks the freshness of the first two collections. If my boys have a choice between this and Pingu on Thin Ice, [which I also got on Amazon] they pick On Thin Ice first every time. Still a good buy, but if you can only get one...I would get the other. Still waiting to find a copy of Meet Pingu I can pick up!

Kitten Party Holiday Review

Kitten Party Holiday
Average Reviews:

This is the same DVD as the other Kitten Party--just a different package for the holidays. I got both and then realized it! But I gave one as a gift, so AOK. The DVD is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. My kids love it and we watch it often, sometimes on mute while we do other things in the room. The dozens of kittens are so adorable. The program is not a movie really, it's a series of chapters, each with a different sort of loose story. It's fun and my kids follow along and really like certain moments that they want to see over and over again. For $6.99 you get endless entertainment of little kittens running around! A bargain, if you ask me.

Candy Land - The Great Lollipop Adventure (2005)
Average Reviews:

My four-year-old loves this DVD. It's very colorful, and the shallow story is simple enough for him to follow. Animation quality is mediocre, only slightly better than current Saturday morning fare (though the backgrounds are nice).
The worst feature is the introduction, which features over 10 minutes of commercials for other DVDs. You cannot use the MENU button to skip these advertisements! You have to fast-forward over them manually. THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I've made a copy disc to eliminate this problem, but most users will have to sit through the obnoxious spam ads over and over again. BAD PUBLISHER. NO DONUT.

We were disappointed with this. We were waiting for them to tackle up the whole alphabet in the movie....but to no avail. My son was not even thrilled with the movie itself (compared to their 123). He looks bored and does a lot of yawning to this. He'd ask for his WTP 123 instead. They just touched on very few letters, which doesn't even emphasize on them well. The Leap Frog Letter Factory is so much better. I would not recommend this especially for beginners. They might think that's all what the alphabet is about. Don't get this. Get the Leap Frog's version instead. But if your child adores Winnie the Pooh so much, get the 123 instead. A 3-star for some great credits like the animations & sounds.

The Tigger Movie 10th Anniversary Edition (Two-Disc Edition + Digital Copy) (2000) Review

The Tigger Movie 10th Anniversary Edition (Two-Disc Edition + Digital Copy) (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There have been so many Pooh-related feature films, direct-to-video films and television series that it's getting difficult to keep track of them (word is that there is another theatrical feature in the works). To the best of my recollection, "The Tigger Movie" was produced by the television division but was very successful in its theatrical release and was followed up with "Piglet's Big Movie."
This is actually quite a nice film. The amazing thing about these characters is how flexible they are for so many stories. The plot here revolves around Tigger's family background and his search for his "family tree." The animation, apparently done in Japan, is very fluid and suggestive of the earlier films -- and the domestic artists behind it are among the best in the business, including Floyd Norman and Toby Bluth.
John Fiedler, as Piglet, is the one remaining cast member from the original films, with Jim Cummings voicing Pooh and Tigger and none other than John Hurt taking over the narration from Sebastian Cabot.
It sure is nice to see "Songs by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman" in the credits. This was technically their last film for Disney, though its success surely should have resulted in others. My favorite of their songs is "Round My Family Tree," but they all have the delicate charm of their other Pooh songs. They also collaborated with Kenny Loggins on "Your Heart Will Lead You Home," which got a lot of airplay.
The DVD offers a handful of bonus features -- several games, mostly, plus a storybook version read by the great Corey Burton and a digital copy. But it is particularly good to see two short episodes from the Emmy-winning "New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" series. Each episode relates to the plot of the feature. Wouldn't it be great if the series was packaged season-by-season on DVD? Hmm?

Strawberry Shortcake: Berrywood Here We Come Review

Strawberry Shortcake: Berrywood Here We Come

This was apparently the final episode/movie they released before they changed strawberry shortcake to itty bitty whatever. We LOVE these versions of SS. They are fantastic. Strawberry and her friends have such cute looks and voices. They sing alot and are just fun for even me to watch. I highly recommend on stocking up on this "older" version of Strawberry Shortcake before you cannot buy them anymore. The new itty bitty version stinks! She is tiny, has an annoying, unfriendly voice, doesn't sing anymore, just not what we grew up with at all.
Change her back, please, change her back to this version! :(
This movie is 2 different short stories in one. Both are fun and have good life lessons, just as all SS movies do!

The Wizard of Oz (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1939) Review

The Wizard of Oz (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1939)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like most baby boomers, I've watched this film dozens of times in the past on broadcast TV, then VHS tape, then LaserDisc ... but I had never actually SEEN "The Wizard of Oz" until this newly restored DVD came out. It's an amazing transfer. The sepia-tone Kansas sequences are startlingly sharp and clear, and the Technicolored world "Over the Rainbow" is truly dazzling. I found myself fascinated by details I had never noticed before: the glittering corn stalks in the Scarecrow's field; the mirror-like floors of the Emerald City; the polished buttons on the guardsmen's uniforms. Incredibly, even the individual grains of red sand in the Witch's hourglass stood out and glistened! All these minor-but-sumptuous visual details served to heighten the magical spell that the film has always woven, enhancing the performances, the story, and the music.
The DVD extras are a mind-boggling embarrassment of riches. The "Making Of" documentary hosted by the incomparable Angela Lansbury is worth the price of the DVD alone, but there's so much more: an international poster gallery, interviews with cast members, deleted scenes, production stills, radio clips, etc, etc. There's enough material to keep even the most casual viewer fascinated for hours, and a true Oz buff will be occupied for days!
If you only bought a DVD player to watch this one disc, it would well be worth the expense. Treat yourself, and fall in love with this classic film again ... for the first time.

Stitch The Movie (2003) Review

Stitch The Movie (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Many big fans of the original claim that you shouldn't take one step into going near this one.But big Lilo and Stitch fans should definitely give this one a go.And they could turn out suprised, but this is suprisingly great stuff.Sure it's not as good as the first, but as a film in it's own right, everything here is spot on fantastic once again. The new villian,Dr.Hamsterwheel(Hamsterviel! It is Hamsterviel!!)is the greatest and most hilarious character I have seen in the way of animated gerbil like creations(I AM NOT GERBIL-LIKE,I AM HAMSTER-LIKE!).His accent is fanastic. His voice talent,Jeff Bennett,is fantastic. And his one-liners are incredible!Such as 'I AM IRKED!'at the disappointing sight of Experiment 625(also a new and hilarious character),'YOU THINK YOU'RE SO...PHONE BOOK,PHONE BOOK!!!',where he's starts a threat and discovers that Lilo is higher than he is,and finally,'I WASN'T REALLY GONNA CUT YOU IN HALF,IT WAS A JOKE!DIDN'T JUMBA PUT A FUNNY BONE IN YOU?',after Sparky saves Stitch and Lilo calls for help, then he get scared! It's brilliant!
Also many of the cast have stayed in to do just as well if not better,Daveigh Chase is amazing as Lilo once again,Stitch has a new problem finding his 'cousins',and Jumba and Pleakley are much, much funnier in this one!The only two downfalls are that the Elvis music has been cut short to just one song of his,'Slicin' Sand',which ain't his best, but at least Gareth Gates doesn't destroy another classic like last time, and Aloha,E Komo Mai,which you'll hear over the end credits,or before the start of the TV show,is one of the best songs I've heard in ages.So why is it not featured on the Island Favourites CD?Also this film could be a bit longer,I hate seeing Lilo and Stitch end, especially after only an hour or so,but I've heard rumours of a third film coming soon so keep me posted.
The plot of Stitch The Movie is good but doesn't always match up to it's expectations.First off,you only see 2 new experiments,625 and 221,so the rest of the excitement is left solely to the series. But there's all kinds of twists and turns here as a wonderful new adventure unfolds.
Overall Stitch The Movie may not look like much, but it's just as supremely entertaining as the original Lilo and Stitch, hitting all the right notes again, and keeping us all entertained until we found out the truth about the rumoured third movie.
So now I'm gonna stick this back in my DVD player and go make myself a sandwich!

Disney sets a record for bringing out a direct-to-video sequel after the initial film. "Stitch: The Movie" arrives only a year after the enjoyable "Lilo & Stitch" played theaters and reunites the title character (otherwise known as Experiment 626) with his earth-bound family in the warm Hawaiian sun. The story has a nice set-up: since Stitch is Experiment 626, where are the first 625 invented by Dr. Jumba Jookiba? Odds are the island paradise will soon be spaceport central for many more aliens. As with other made-for-video Disney titles, the animation is not as complex or rich. This hurts this sequel even more since the original film had such a unique, pastel beauty. Unfortunately, the other elements of the film are just as flat. Even though most of the original voice cast returns, the entire production lacks the same spirit and charm, and the story's theme is recycled (get ready for more "Ohana means family"). On the plus side, the film starts with an Elvis Presley song ("Slicin' Sand") and is only 64 minutes long. The movie sets up the Disney TV series "The Adventures of Lilo & Stitch". "--Doug Thomas"

The Strawberry Shortcake Movie: Sky's the Limit (2010) Review

The Strawberry Shortcake Movie: Sky's the Limit (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must admit I'm a big fan of the former version of Strawberry Shortcake and was very leary when I heard they were re-inventing her. But I tried very hard to go into watching this movie with an open mind hoping I would be proven wrong. Unfortunately, I wasn't. Even if you can adjust to the new look (which isn't all that bad and not quite as grown up as I was thinking it would be), the storyline and characters are unimaginative and boring. You definitely don't get the feeling each girl is her own unique individual with quirks and character like the former Strawberry Shortcake gang was. My huge Strawberry Shortcake fan who is almost 4 years old, quit watching the movie mid way through. She was bored. I fell asleep. Missing are classic characters such as Honey Pie Pony, Ginger Snap, Angel Cake, and Huckleberry Pie to name a few. There's odd caterpillar and berrykin characters who just add a strange element to the whole mess. And then there's the uninspired world in which they live. Instead of imaginative places like Ice Cream Island, Cake Walk, the River Fudge, and Cookie Corners, you get a very unimaginative world that looks too much like reality . . . just a bunch of rocks and bushes. And Strawberry and her pals are miniature now . . . living down under the bushes. So to sum it up, don't waste your money or time on this particular movie. And if the first movie is any indication of what's to come, my daughter and I will be sticking with our collection of past Strawberry Shortcake DVDs.

Disney Princess Stories, Vol. 1 - A Gift From The Heart (2004) Review

Disney Princess Stories, Vol. 1 - A Gift From The Heart (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first thing I've let my daughter watch that I actually felt guilty for letting her sit through - instead of being interested and active, she fell into this slackjawed stupor, and I can't say I blame her.
There are four stories involving Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, and Cinderella. Each uses a combination of repurposed animation and new art to try to muddle through a short story. Not to put too fine a point on it - it's for kids after all - but the stories are all confusing, and completely out of character for each character. This makes it difficult for kids to digest easily, and you have to spend time narrating why Jasmine did this, or what's happening with Belle, and you end up trying to help this whole disaster limp along to a quick end.
The art is terrible also, and the only reason this matters is that it's an official Disney product. All this would be excusable if it were in the 2.99 bin at the supermarket, but this is the lowest, most crass grab for consumer dollars by Disney that I've ever seen.
Don't fall for it - even Return of Jafar looks like a classic next to this. You're better off getting a storybook to read to your little princess than this piece of soulless garbage.

George of the Jungle (1997) Review

George of the Jungle (1997)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A friend gave my kids this movie--I didn't buy it because the idea of a live-action GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE seemed silly to me. Fortunately for my family, this movie is silly in a good way, gleefully silly, with lots of physical comedy, puns, in-jokes, and high ridiculousness. This movie has good-natured fun. The casting of Fraser and Mann as George and Ursula is inspired, and Cleese as the voice of Ape works wonders. Movies that elicit joyful instead of derisive laughter deserve our attention, so unless you're sensitive about the requisite animal excrement jokes (the easiest way to avoid a "G" rating), watch this movie with your kids. Then watch it with your buddies. It might even be a good date movie.
The DVD package, however, offers another example of Disney's charging premium prices for few extras. Unfortunately, the disc is also pan-and-scan instead of widescreen. If you already own the videotape, you might as well wait and hope that Disney upgrades the DVD package.

Disney presents the smash hit comedy that families and critics everywhere went bananas over! Deep in the heart of the African jungle, a baby named George, the sole survivor of a plane crash, is raised by gorillas. George grows up to be a buff and lovable klutz (ENCINO MAN'S Brendan Fraser) who has a rain forest full of animal friends -- like Tookie, his big-beaked messenger, Ape, a talking gorilla who's smarter than your average rocket scientist, and Shep, a gray-haired peanut-loving pooch of an elephant! When poachers mess with George's pals, the King Of Swing swings into action. But before you can say, "Watch out for that tree," George comes face-to-bark with a few vine-covered obstacles! You'll go wild for this "wonderfully wacky comedy" that People Magazine calls "impossible to resist!"

Dumbo (Big Top Edition) (1941) Review

Dumbo (Big Top Edition) (1941)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Why am I not surprised that there is someone reviewing this classic who trashes it as if they had never seen it and were offended by the cultural sensitivity issues that are part of the film. (See the Tallahassee reviewer titled "Do not purchase this video for children" January 21, 2003) For crying out loud, this script reflects what was normal at the time the film was first released. It's full of classic pieces that of course include a white dominated societal commentary on what was perceived as appropriate black cultural roots at that time. Is it outdated? Sure, so is nearly every other film from that era. Does this make it less of a classic? Absolutely not. In fact, this is the *real* Disney, long before it was sanitized for the Anaheim-Orlando crowd. Is the film inappropriate for a 21st century kid? That's a parental decision, but if you plan to shelter your child from the real history of the U.S., they will have a rude awakening (with all the accompanying psychoses) that you *won't* be able to control. My kids loved this film when they were very young.....we talked about the cultural issues by the time they were in school.....in fact, I distinctly remember them coming home to ask why some kids treated others so badly because of the color of their skin, their accents, etc. We used Dumbo to show them what used to be, was is today, and how to deal with it. And there was never a place where the original empathy of the film was lost on them. They have repeatedly made personal decisions and stood up against improper cultural slurs their entire lives (they are all either in college or their final years of high school now). I've been pleased with how they can see a cultural slur coming and are not willing to put up with any of the culturally "acceptable" ways of trashing others' ethnicity.
Now, what about the film? This is a great Disney classic from the days when there was a full bodied, earthy smell to what they did. It's release in this format provides a historical window on American culture from the 1950s that is true and clear. It loses nothing in the 21st century translation and in fact, gains considerably from it's historical context. A great child's film that every adult needs to understand!

Pinocchio (Two-Disc 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo + BD Live) (1940)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just saw a special engagement of this latest 70th Anniversary version of Pinnochio at Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood in advance of the DVD re-release. Though I am happy to see the movie be given public exposure on a big theatrical screen, over the years I have seen many theatrical screenings of the movie on at least 12 different occasions including an original nitrate 3-strip Technicolor studio vault print in the early 1980's (before the studio dismantled its last nitrate screening room) and non-digital film restorations and was shocked to see that this latest restored version has digitally tampered with the film's original color palette for no justifiable reason.
Some of the chosen character hues are modern day, popular color hues, but look out of place in this early animated classic including certain pinks, reds and blues which are reused so often in identical shades that to classic animation buffs it becomes distractingly noticeable. For those animation buffs who know about Pinnochio, Walt intentionally muted colors in some of the scarier or sadder scenes. In the restored version, for example, when Pinnochio gets locked in Geppetto's "birdcage" the nighttime scene is bright and garish where it should intentionally be darker and muted.
The original movie had hand inked character outlines in colors that matched the interior ink colors, none of that is apparent in this restoration. The characters, though admittedly sharper and clearer, look color-wise like they were electronically tampered with, then reinserted in front of the original backgrounds.
At this point, the damage is done and obviously this restoration was "stylistic." But in any case, it might be compared with someone redoing the Mona Lisa with more modern color hues for the purpose of improving the artwork or making it more modern day acceptable. Either two things, perhaps no one at Disney was knowledgeable enough to notice what the outside restoration company was planning to do with the film in early test segments or maybe they figured that modern day DVD audiences would not know the difference or care, but this is the first "DIGITALLY RESTORED" classic Disney film that I have ever taken issue with. What a let down since it is my very favorite Disney film of all!!!
P.S. I was the founder of the former, long time Disney employees' Animated Film Club (later referred to as the Disney Film Club) which included Disneyland and Walt Disney Studio employees. It was founded in 1976 and continued on and off for many years afterward with visits from surviving original Disney animators, screenings of rare Disney footage and more.

Felicity - An American Girl Adventure (2005) Review

Felicity - An American Girl Adventure (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a rarity these days when an historical film is made that is directed mainly to children. It's even more rare when such a film is done well. "Felicity - An American Girl Adventure" is one of those extremely rare movies that shows, fairly accurately, life in the colonial era of our country's history. It also includes some of the discourse between family members concerning the outset of what would become the American Revolution, which, for whom this movie is geared towards, was really taking a gamble. But, I feel it paid off. This alone is reason to award this film five stars, as school children in today's day and age do not always get both sides of the story. Even I, who went to school in the 60's and 70's, was taught that the people who lived in the colonies - virtually ALL of the people - were against the King of England. It wasn't until I took it upon myself many years later to study that era that I found out that many, many folks were loyalists and took arms against family members and neighbors. "Felicity," for the first time that I can see in a movie geared toward children, shows that other side of our history.
As a Civil War re-enactor, I tend to look for farbiness (inaccuracies) in all period movies (not just Civil War era flicks) and I must say there was very little that I could see in "Felicity." Oh, a few minor things in this movie are inaccurate - "Hello" was not a greeting at that time as we know it to be today, and Christmas was slightly over-done for the colonial period - but, all in all, the over-all viewing seemed to be a window into the past.
One must also remember that this is a movie for the younger set and may not get into the extreme details - or may gloss over - certain facts. And, for story's sake, it might embellish on some truths such as little girls disobeying their parents without retribution (although I'm sure most of today's youngsters will not follow Felicity's lead in this).
But, that's okay. I feel films like this (as well as the Felicity books) may just entice kids to learn more about Felicity's time period on their own, and that would be a good thing, don't you think?

Barbie in a Mermaid Tale (2010) Review

Our three and a half year old daughter wanted to see this movie after seeing a preview on the Nick Jr website. The only other Barbie movie we have watched was the Nutcracker, and while it was a cute movie with beautiful ballet sequences, it had too many scary parts for her. We watched A Mermaid's Tale tonight as a special treat after a particularly traumatic day involving blood testing for allergies. I was pleasantly surprised in this movie. The animation is fantastic, beautiful and lifelike. The characters are sweet. And the story line (you must realize we are talking it's for small children who love Barbie and fantasy) is easy to follow and fun. My daughter loved it. The "scary" parts weren't too scary, some sharks, a few jelly fish, and the mean Queen. And while she is mean, it's nothing like the Queen in Sleeping Beauty that can give very young children nightmares for weeks. The movie's message is that it is okay to be different. We are very particular about what we let our daughter watch. She watches Max and Ruby, the Wonder Pets, The Berenstain Bears, Little Bear, Olivia and occasionally Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. She has seen the Tinkerbell movies, but didn't enjoy the other Disney movies, as the bad guys are always too scary. She doesn't see any network TV or commercials in general. She saw the commercial for this on the Nick Jr website, and only after we had watched it first. My husband and I especially appreciated the fact that there weren't references to things she wouldn't understand, there weren't jokes thrown in for the adults only, and that is was sweet and simple with no violence, no name calling and nothing offensive. I would gladly watch it again with her, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a parent who was looking for a sweet, fun movie for little girls who love pretend and make-believe and believe it's possible Mermaids are really out there in the ocean somewhere.

Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia (2010) Review

Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia (2010)

I should have known when I saw this was a follow on from Fairytopia that I would be disappointed. This is the story of Elina, who in the movie Fairytopia saved her country of Fairytopia and gained her wings. In this she is sent an urgent message from the Prince of Mermaidia (who briefly appeared in Fairytopia) who asks for her to help him. The movie is full of the trials and tribulations she goes through for him, along with his girlfriend Nori. I expect it is deliberate they have named the Mermaid heroine after Japanese Edible seaweed but it seems ill-considered.
Anyway - the good things about the movie, it is brightly coloured, and the costumes for the characters are gorgeous, when Elina becomes a mermaid she looks just stunning. There are really nice messages in this - about overcoming jealousy, selflessness, sharing and the power of team work. Some of these messages are laid on with a trowel, but on the other hand it is for young children and I think the message needs to be strong. And lets get real here, the movies aren't aimed at adults. However I thinksome of hte best movies are those that can easily be watched by Adults and children together - and the best Barbie movie (I think) was Princess and the Pauper where I still find it easy to sit down with my kids and watch it. I wish Barbie movies would get back to that sort of good, singing fun.
the things I found difficult is that although there was a strong basic story (getting the immunity berry) the whole thing was quite confusing for my under 5 year olds. There is so much going on that they quickly lost track of what was happening and who was who. There were too many characters and they all seemed to have marketing tie-ins - lots of mer-ferry's, snails, mermaids, turtles, dolphins - the list went on and on. The overall story which seemed to start it all seemed a weak concept from the start. Some of the characters faces were too animated. In the early Barbie movies there still seemed to be a semblance of reality, but the merferries and so on did seem oddly characterised, almost like Japanese Anime. Perhaps it is something children like, but I prefer the traditional animation, certainly the mix of the two was unsettling at times. Lastly, there is a moment when Elina and Nori get marks of courage which look like tatoos - call me conservative, but I don't want my under 5 year old even thinking a tatoo is cool - no matter what form it takes.
There were some genuinely good moments in this film and despite its faults my children have watched it a couple of times, but it doesn't really interest them in the way that the early dancing ones (swan lake for instance or Princess and the Pauper) I really hope the next movie planned is one of these sort.

Winnie The Pooh Movie (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo in DVD Packaging) Review

Winnie The Pooh Movie (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo in DVD Packaging)

Pooh is always in need of honey, but his own search for honey is put off when he hears that his friend Eeyore has lost his tail. Pooh and his other friends embark on a mission to find Eeyore a new tail, and as they work toward that goal, they discover that Christopher Robin is missing. His note says he has been taken by the fearsome Backson monster--either that, or he says he'll be "Back Soon". But no matter how many misunderstandings and missteps Pooh and crew make, they are always a delight to be around.

It's good to be a part of the Hundred Acre Wood again. This film is a return to form for Disney, and it works marvelously and is easily better than the last three theatrical releases--The Tigger Movie, Piglet's Big Movie and Pooh's Heffalump Movie--combined. They were three cute movies, but they were mostly forgettable. 2011's Winnie the Pooh is much more like 1977's The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh with its adorable stories about the blustery day and the honey tree. In this film, there is a narrator that Pooh talks to, the characters are aware that they're in a story, and there are many imaginative instances where the characters interact with the pages and the text that surround them.

The characters are as charming as ever. The new character designs are just a slight change from previous films, but the changes are very cool. Pooh and the others have a wider range of facial expressions now, which allows for some neat close-up animation angles as well as adding to the comedy of the film. Pooh's looks of confusion, Rabbit's glares of disbelief, and Owl's pompous eyebrow-raises are all employed to make the funny scenes even funnier.

The sheer number of funny moments in this movie is shocking. I was expecting to see another average, slightly-dull Pooh movie, but all the children (and all the adults) in the theater were in stitches from beginning to end. The sight gags, misunderstandings, and thwarted victories keep the laughs coming for all members of the audience. Many of the lines come directly from A.A. Milne's books, which is positively fantastic for fans of the original stories. The 8-year-old I watched the movie with was very excited to hear lines he recognized from the book, such as when Owl talks about "customary procedure" and Pooh asks, "What does Crustimony Proseedcake mean?" The classics are classics for a reason, and this movie draws its sweetness and hilarity from the best of sources.
The main flaw in Winnie the Pooh?' At just over an hour, the movie's too short. Even the 8, 6, and 4-year-olds I took to the movie were wanting more and felt sorry that the show was over. This could easily be a new classic, with its comforting pastels and earth tones, lovely music from Zooey Deschanel, countless laugh-out-loud moments, and it's message about putting your friends first. This super-cute show is safe for the smallest toddlers and enjoyable for the most sophisticated adults. I want to see it again.
