The movie was okay in the acting category but I liked the story. It had the usual two guys competing over the same girl. One guy was just using her while the other truly wanted a long term relationship with her. In the end the right guy ends with her but not without alot of moments of rejection and disappointment.

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful: They're Wanted (2004) Review

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful: They're Wanted (2004)
Average Reviews:

Another good, sexy, fun softcore romp from Retromedia. Nicole Sheridan and Beverly Lynne end up inheriting an old, western ghost town. But there's an evil landowner nearby who wants to scare her into selling it so that he can get his hands on its legendary lost silver mine. But the ghost of Calamity Kate helps fend him off.
Throughout this little adventure, we get six sex scenes. Four are boy/girl, one is girl/girl, and one is girl/girl/girl. The first four were excellent, the final two were okay, but could have been better. The lesbian three way should have been the highlight of the video, but it was one of the weaker scenes. Nicole was in four of the scenes, so this is a really good video for fans of her. Beverly is in two scenes. There were two other girls who were in the girl/girl scene, and they did a great job. Belinda Gavin (aka, Kylie Wyote) is also present, and is in one scene.
The other movie on the DVD, Bikini Academy, is barely worth mentioning. I sped through it on fast forward, and it looked really bad, with very little nudity and one very weak sex scene.
However, if you've enjoyed past Retromedia releases, or want something that gives you a lot of Nicole Sheridan, this is an easy recommendation.

Tiesto In Concert Review

When this came out, it was way ahead of it's time. No other DJ has done this since, especially on this scale. In a world that flips almost once a year you cannot critique track selection. If you missed it, you missed it...it was progressive at the time. The second "concert" was no where near as good. This had the "around the world" theme and mixed in "world" music interestingly. I bought this in '04 and was blown away. If you have never seen it, I think it is probobly still worth watching despite the fact some of the tracks might be worn out by now.

Maid In Sweden (1971) Review

Maid In Sweden (1971)
Average Reviews:

For Christina Lindberg completists, this DVD will certainly fill
a void. Of course, if you've seen any of Miss Christina's other
films from this period, you pretty much know what to expect.
It's another Swedish coming-of-age 'sexual awakening' picture,
so the pace is pretentiously deadly and the acting likewise.
But the real beef I have with the dvd is the transfer. It's
full frame, washed out, and a little dark. You know you're
in trouble when the theatrical trailer (included on this disc)
looks 80% better than the actual feature presentation. However,
there is a major coup here with the 2008 video interview with
the usually low-profile and reclusive Miss Lindberg, who now
has to be pushing sixty at least. Unfortunately, the interviewer
doesn't really know how to coax reminiscences out of her, so she
really doesn't have a whole lot to say about her body of work.
She put me in mind of another famous Swedish actress (Greta Garbo)
from Hollywood's Golden Age who just 'vanted to be left alone'.
Surprisingly, she admits she was only in the movie business for
2-3 years, during which she made over 25 films. Anyway if you're
interested in becoming familiar with Christina Lindberg's work,
I would recommend films like 'Anita' or 'Exposed' - both of which
are now available on dvd as well.

Alexander Revisited - The Final Cut (2004) Review

Alexander Revisited - The Final Cut (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Oliver Stone's Alexander Revisited is now something of a masterwork. He is given the chance to tell the story as he would have originally liked to have presented it. The 45 minutes of extra's are true extra's...spread out in short 2 to 5 second edits...to more lengthly exchanges that happily include Brian Blessed as the Physical Instructor, Christopher Plummer as Aristotle and quite a bit more voice over and character addition from Anthony Hopkins as the aged Ptolemy.
The action starts almost immediately with a longer, more graphic version of the Battle of Gaugemela (Wonderfully undertaken, Stone paying homage to the great Sergei Bondarchuk with those terrific panning shots) and then works backwards through Alexanders youth. The film moves forward and backwards from there yet the new subtitles give you the year and how long, before or after, from the previous scene. It is quite instructive to anyone the slighest bit confused and is a superb history lesson. Also good are longer dancing scenes with Roxanna's troupe and Bogoas' troupe...both superb, filmic scenes...beautifully done. The Bogoas character (Francisco Bosch) is also expanded and made far more sympathetic.
The Indian Battle (wonderfully filmed in Thailand) is also more graphic as are some of the more intimate scenes yet nothing is without merit. This is not 2007, it's 330BC and mores and the concept of battle, honor, fidelity etc were different for those times. I for one, praise Mr. Stone for a very accurate feel and presence...and even minor characters are explained in far greater detail...such as the young Guardsman who killed Philip (Kilmer)...in a flashback we see his motives. It is now far more beautifully edited...from a master filmaker who values editing, JFK gets my vote as the best edited film of all time.
I am giving it 5 Stars...a masterpiece. Do watch the Stone introduction, he says it better than I..."If you liked the original you'll love this, if you hated the original you'll hate this even more!" Now there is a man!
The only part I am saddened about is that over the end titles Vangelis' epic piece 'Titans' is still only 2 minutes long...yet it fits the edit...and I would urge you to purchase the CD for the complete 4 minute version...one of the best pieces of film music I felt ever written.

VeggieTales - Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More Review

VeggieTales - Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I chose to buy this video because I can't wait to take my girls to see the movie, "Jonah - a VeggieTales Movie," which opens in theaters on October 4th, 2002!! I wanted to catch a glimpse of what was to come, for myself, but more importantly, for my two daughters, whom I have never taken into a movie theater. (I think Disney movies are too scary and sad, but anywhooo...) I also thought it would be great to know some of the new Veggie songs *before* seeing the movie, to help my girls feel more comfortable with the newness of the whole theater experience.
As for the new songs, I have to say the ones chosen for this video are *AWESOME*! My kids crack up over the "Billy Jo McGuffrey" tune! During the song, the video footage shows some real-life kids, acting out the silly words on a school stage. It's really cute, and very funny! I have recently ordered the cd, so we can sing this in the car! The "Belly of a Whale" song is by far, my favorite, maybe because the footage is similar to a music video, in that the "real" group is seen performing, in between scenes from the movie. A re-mix of the older, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" is positively hilarious! The Veggie pirates are seen on the deck of a pirate ship, just hanging around in their rock-a-loungers. I just about choked on my diet Coke watching that for the first time...so a warning to you diet Coke drinkers! :)
The only drawback I can think of, to be fair, is that the video is too short for my liking. I WANT too much of a GOOD thing!! :) Anyway, we have watched it several times in a row, just to get our fill of the Veggies (and it never gets boring.) Overall, this video is an *AWESOME* 30 minute preview of what's to come in the "Jonah" movie! If you are a Veggie fan...you really ought to get this one!! And if you are new to the Veggies, this is a great intro to their music, which you probably should become familiar with, anyway...as the Veggies are *coming*!!! (to the big screen, that is-) :)

Bloody Reunion (2006) Review

Bloody Reunion (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Through the past couple of years the Korean film industry have made a couple of amazing films and have been more recognized with mainstream audiences. The good thing about Bloody Reunion is that it tells an original storyline instead of being yet another Ringu or Ju-on rippoff I think that the female ghost with long black hair has been done a million times before so its refreshing to see something different. Bloody reunion is a full blooded slasher film, a group of South Korean former class mates are invited to a reunion in a nice cottage located in the countryside. They meet one of their old teachers who is now in a wheelchair however tension and resentment within the group start to surface as the evening progresses and before long a mysterious figure wearing a rabbit mask starts violently killing the group one by one, there were a few nasty looking torture scenes as well as the deaths being very gruesome one character is forced to eat razor blades which is not like the typical supernatural horror film from Asia and the plot was very clever you wouldn't figure out the twist at the end and it was fairly interesting at its subject matter, I think it was about the value of friendship so its also a psychological thriller/drama. We soon find out what psychological damage the bad teacher has inflicted on her students even though some scenes were a bit melodramatic the film was terrific and very compelling to watch, the film was also visually stunning and nicely shot. I was very impressed with this film even though its not perfect the film was very good, if you liked Bloody Reunion then I highly recommend these other Korean horror films Tale of two sisters, Phone (A ringu rippoff but still good), The doll master, Into the mirror and Tell me something.

Girl in Captivity: Hitwoman in Chains 2 (2009)

This isn`t a sub-standard entry in the genre, not by any means, it`s just more of the same, and after viewing as many of these films as I have in my lifetime, I`m always hoping for a new twist or something more, and therein lies my lackluster afterthoughts. With these flix, plot is immaterial, only the self-delusional claim to purchase them for any other reason, these are promoted as 'Cinema Erotique' so we`re evaluating it`s exploitative value, not its cinematic one. The lead actress is fairly plain but looks great in a latex S+M outfit and naked in chains, and the only other woman in the film, a femme fatale, is sexier and has that "love you long time" sleaziness about her, and I mean that as praise. The story is similiar to all of the 'Zero Woman' series, nothing unfamiliar again, but on the plus side, there is ample nudity and a perversity that elevates it somewhat. If I wasn`t so friggin' jaded, I`d give it 4 stars (and it probably deserves it as exploitation) but I personally think these flix were done better in the 70`s than they are today. There was more to them then, an indefinable something that makes folks continue to remake them incessantly, but with shoddier results...

Sins of Sister Lucia (1978) Review

Sins of Sister Lucia (1978)

Sins of Sister Lucia (1978)- One of the few but significant nunsploitation flix emerging from Japan, along the lines of the fabulous 'School Of The Holy Beast' (1974) by Norifumi Suzuki (Star Of David:Beautiful Girl Hunter), this entry is a lot like its European counterparts from that time period, and all of these films hail from the womb of Ken Russell`s wickedly wonderful 'The Devils' (1971). After seducing her English teacher and stabbing one of her father`s hoodlum pals, Rumika is sent to a convent to clean her act up. Well, not so much. This convent is a 'hotbed' of deviant nuns who engage in strange spanking games, bondage, lesbian encounters, catfighting, etc. and the Mother Superior is screwing the parish Priest. And all of this happens before two escaped male prisoners break into the convent and begin 'servicing' the nun`s needs...whew. "If God wills it" indeed. Lots of indelible imagery and nudity for a 'naughty nun' flick, and Mondo Macabro always gives us loads of extras, this time several featurettes about the film, nunsploitation, the director, Nikkatsu Studio releases, and a slew of trailers. Big Fun. Praise the Lord. Amen.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (1989) (1989) Review

Journey to the Center of the Earth (1989) (1989)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
VIAJE AL CENTRO DE LA TIERRA was a Spanish live-action coproduction that received limited distribution in 1978 in the United States by International Picture Show under the title WHERE TIME BEGAN; it was initially titled JULES VERNE'S FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. Made for $2 million, WHERE TIME BEGAN was shot over a period of five months, and uses most of Verne's major incidents.
WHERE TIME BEGAN opens with a pre-credit discussion of the interior of the Earth by a group of geologists, with Professor Otto Lidenbrock (Kenneth More) commenting that the only way to prove any of the theories is through an actual descent. The credits follow, superimposed over a pleasant salute to the Vernian visual style of Georges Méliès, but marred by an inane song on the soundtrack.
The date of the story is shifted to 1898, to make it more contemporary for the audience, in both technology and social mores (such as the place of women). In Hamburg, an aged man tries to sell several old volumes at a book store; they are bought by Lidenbrock. Arriving home, he finds the soldier Axel accidentally kneeling before his niece Glauben, and assuming there has been a marriage proposal, gladly but offhandedly offers his consent. Glauben notices the small note that falls from the book, and together Lidenbrock, Axel, and Glauben, with the help of the cinematically referential device of a magic lantern, discover the key to Saknussemm's code.
Under the same necessity to add a feminine lead as other versions, WHERE TIME BEGAN follows a vastly simpler method. Glauben wants to go on the trip, and her practicality proves a valuable assistance to the absent-minded Lidenbrock and equally ill-prepared Axel. By contrast, it is Axel who is uncertain, hesitant, and reluctant; the juxtaposition of his equivocation with Lidenbrock's certainty and Glauben's eagerness provides humor that was not in the novel.
The exteriors of the expedition's beginning and exit through craters were taken at the Lanzarote volcano in the Canary Islands, providing a barren, other-worldly appearance that almost resembles a moonscape. Although the reddish plains scarcely resembled Iceland, a series of extreme dramatic zooms impressively isolates the cast amidst the desolate location, providing a more dynamic lead-up to the descent than in the 1959 movie. The plunge into the Earth was shot a half-mile inside caves near Madrid, with the lighting effectively dark and claustrophobic.
When Hans's pickaxe thrust releases boiling water, it burns the hand of the man Glauben had seen in the darkness--who finally introduces himself as Olsen (Jack Taylor). The underground sea seems to have a healing physical power over the members of the expedition. Glauben notices that Olsen never seems to require sustenance, and his only tool is a copper-colored metal box he carries with him (which unfortunately resembles in size and shape nothing so much as a metal tea-kettle).
The sequence around the underground sea is, as in the novel, the centerpiece of the story, and the full treatment of this setting and the incidents around it--the island, the dinosaurs, the storm--with a large degree of fidelity to Verne, make WHERE TIME BEGAN noticeably different from other films of the novel. Filters turn the ocean a deep shade of greenish-blue aqua, contrasting with the orange of the land; the striking color combinations make the setting all the more convincing.
Washed ashore with the wreckage of their raft and their equipment after the storm, Axel and Glauben go in search of Olsen, passing through a field of fossils and into a forest. At this point, WHERE TIME BEGAN becomes increasingly far-fetched. Axel and Glauben are suddenly attacked, not by the ten foot prehistoric man of Verne's imagination, but by a giant ape, failing to connect with Verne's evolutionary link. Olsen comes to the rescue, and allowing them to glimpse a whole city of men who resemble him.
Olsen sets off an explosion that will open an escape for Lidenbrock, Axel, Glauben, and Hans, saying he will find his own way to safety. The scene comes rather suddenly, and is confusing in its brevity and lack of explanatory dialogue. WHERE TIME BEGAN avoids saying whether the expedition actually reached their destination or not, so there is no sense of the downward distance they have traveled.
In a coda, Axel and Glauben have married, Hans is once more a prosperous sheepherder, and Lidenbrock still haunts the old bookshop. One day, he learns that a parcel has been left for him, and, unwrapped, it proves to be Olsen's metal box. Looking toward the shop window, Lidenbrock sees an aged man, the same one who brought in Saknussemm's journal--and recognizes that he is "Olsen." This parallel closure brings the film back to where it began.
Is Olsen perhaps meant to be Arne Saknussemm himself, or a representative of his pioneering spirit? Either or both could be true; Olsen stands in for the absent predecessor whose earlier journey they are recreating. Significantly, Olsen appears after Lidenbrock loses Saknussemm's original book, and will rescue the travelers at the point where Saknussemm's last carving of his initials appears. He is less of a full-fledged character than a symbol, a vivid reminder of the theme of time that, in the form of evolution, was such a motif of the novel.
The cast credibly enact their roles, particularly Kenneth More, despite his age. The special effects (by Emilio Ruiz) are variable; the dinosaurs are far less convincing than those of the 1959 version, but WHERE TIME BEGAN also attempts to do far more with them, the previous film not even attempting to stage the battle at sea. The most consistent virtue is the impressive photography by Andres Berenguer, especially the volcanic surfaces, the caves, and the underground ocean. Judged by its own standards and scale, WHERE TIME BEGAN must be rated a very satisfactory although uneven effort.

Wolfhound (Unrated Edition) (2002) Review

Wolfhound (Unrated Edition) (2002)

Wolfhound is about a man who returns to the Irish village he grew up in to write a book, he brings with him his wife and two children. Once the family have settled into their new home strange things seams to be happening, the other inhabitants of the village seam to all know something and strange dogs run around, our protagonist also have strange flashbacks and the movie really do try to build up a mysterious mood, unfortunately it do not exactly do a good job of it.
All in all I do not think Wolfhound was bad, there are some good characters and it is a bit different take on the whole wereanimal/shapeshifter theme. The problem with this movie however is that it is bland, the town it all takes place in are bland, the inside of the protagonist home are bland, the drama between the protagonist, his wife and the lovely weredog woman who becomes his lover are bland, to put it plainly, this movie get boring at times.
Wolfhound have allot going for it, however it moves to slowly and the filmmakers seams to forget they are working with a visual media. There are scenes which are great, but there is also so much which is just mediocre. Also I did not like the ending, I am not going to spoil things here, but it leaves so many questions unanswered.
If you have seen so many were and shapeshifter movies that anything a bit different is a piece of heaven then you might enjoy this, other than that this movie do not have allot going for it. I think it was rather okey at times so I give it three stars, but there are far to many areas where this movie is just bland.

Miracle Dogs Review

The combination of the little boy with these puppies was enough to make me shed a tear. I bought this movie for my 9-year old son, thinking that he may be almost too old for a traditional "family film". But he loved it as much as I did! The story starts with a family that has just moved to a new city, and they are all trying to adjust to a new neighborhood, new jobs, new friends, etc. Desperate for some companionship, the little boy (Charlie) befriends a three-legged dog, whose leg was removed after the vet discovered cancer, and her litter of puppies. Charlie goes on a quest to find homes for the puppies and their mother before the local animal shelter learns about the homeless dogs. While temporarily housing them in the basement of the hospital, the dogs escape and patients in the hospital begin to get well at an inexplicable rate. The dogs don't have super powers, and the film doesn't have an overtly religious theme. But there is a good message about family and love and loyalty. I highly recommend it to anyone, with or without children.

Peaches (2004) Review

Peaches (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
No one should take either of the other two reviews presetly posted for this DVD seriously. Both betray a certain level of political correctness run amuck and failure to understand what this film is trying to achieve. Peaches is a beautifully realised character drama filled with deeply affecting performances. I'm a fairly cynical person, and fairly intolerant of film cliches...though the film vaguely covers territory a few other films touching on some of Peaches' themes cover, I didn't find it cliched or overstated, and I know many people agree with me...they just don't feel a particular need to validate their opinions through blowzy Amazon reviews.
Both other reviewers' snarky descriptions (one filled with laughable pseudoacademic jargon) of the romantic subplot in the film betray their real issue with the film, namely that they disapprove of the onscreen sexuality and of the age disparity of the characters involved. (Perhaps if George Clooney had played Alan there wouldn't have been so much whining on this general subject.) Plenty of viewers I've talked to have had no problem finding Steph's desires, or her frustration at growing up in a town with no perceived future, plausible. It's refreshing that any film these days can address this sort of sexuality without judgment or a presumption of female victimhood. Yes, the affair is doomed to fail, but one understands why these characters were drawn to one another, and what they gained from the experience. (Also, no matter how much you hate any film, posting major plot spoilers is tasteless and crass.)
Nor are are the script or performances melodramatic--in fact they're admirably restrained, and Weaving and MacKenzie do a great job of playing characters across two decades. Compared to much of what passes for character study in mainstream American films, Peaches is a revelation in its depth and lack of hand-wringing over its characters. It's not quite as astonishing as Craig Monahan's first film, The Interview, and not for all tastes, but deserves to be seen more widely than it has been, and deserves a break from the snide mischaracterizations of some reviewers who prefer opacity or imposed moral platitudes.

Cinderella (Disney Special Platinum Edition Collector's Gift Set) (1950) Review

Cinderella (Disney Special Platinum Edition Collector's Gift Set) (1950)
Average Reviews:

I believe that the 1950 Disney adaption of the fairy tale by Charles Perrault is one of the most popular Disney movies released since 1937. This movie is funny, sad, and charming at the same time, which may sound impossible for some movies.
I have watched this movie since I was 2, and I am now 12, and let me tell you that after 10 years, you never get tired of it. I have the Masterpiece copy on this page, and it is very, very worn out, so I cannot wait for Disney to re-release this classic on Disney VHS and DVD in 2007, so I can buy it and technically get my hands on it! :)
Anyway, this movie is about a girl named Cinderella, who's father and mother have both died. She is forced to live with her vain and ugly stepsisters and cruel stepmother, and furthermore is forced to become a slave in her own home.
Cinderella's only friends are the loyal mice, the birds, the dog an also the horse. One day, an invatation arrives from the palace, stating that every eligible maiden in the kingdom has to attend to a royal ball, honoring the return of the prince.
Cinderella's stepmother lies to her, saying she can go only if she gets her chores done, and if she finds something suitable to wear.
She does all her chores, while her animal friends make a dress for her. Sadly, the stepsisters tear it up, and leave. However, Cinderella meets her Fairy Godmother, who sends her off to the ball, but she has to be back before the stroke of midnight, otherwise, the spell will be broke...
Enjoy this Disney masterpiece once again, which proves that dreams can come true.

Ken Park (Uncut Uncensored Director's Version - Import) (2002)
Average Reviews:

This is gorilla film making. Ken Park is an incredibly difficult film to watch - in fact it will be impossible to watch for some. Yet, if you allow yourself to be taken into its world, the film paints a disturbingly accurate portrait of a certain culture which is not at all hard to believe.
We see the majority of characters longing, wanting to make a connection with other humans yet feeling alienated. We see, remarkably, the confusion and disinterest of a major portion of an entire generation that views life as hopeless.
The violence, nudity, graphic (and actual) sex never feel like exploitation or pornography, but they will surely keep a majority of Americans from viewing it. Good thing too, or they'd be asking for Larry Clark's head on a silver platter!
If you try to watch this with an open mind, and can leave your inhabitions and judgment at the door, it will be impossible not to be moved - and powerfully so - by this raw and disturbing film.

So..I had some time to kill while doing my laundry and saw this movie was on my ONDEMAND. I decided to take a chance and watch it. I was surprised to be completely entertained through the whole film. There are some points where the acting is a bit overdone and the story does have a few ways it could be improved...but... how many big budget, over advertised, movies have crappy acting and yet make a lot of money just because they are either A) a sequel to a famous franchise (how many Jason movies do we need?) or B)have big name actors. This film is pretty darn good. I believe more movie makers should quit trying to make the next big, arty, trend setting, overly thought out movies and just do what films should REALLY be...a couple of hours of decent entertainment. I beleieve this movie accomplishes just that.
